• "Local transaction already has 1 non-XA Resource: cannot add more resources" error

  After reading previous questions about this error, it seems like all of them conclude that you need to enable XA on all of the data sources. But: What if I don't want a distributed transaction? What would I do if I want to start transactions on two different databases at the same time, but commit the transaction on one database and roll back the transaction on the other? I'm wondering how my code actually initiated a distributed transaction. It looks to me like I'm starting completely separate transactions on each of the databases. Info about the application: The application is an EJB running on a Sun Java Application Server 9.1 I use something like the following spring context to set up the hibernate session factories: <bean id="dbADatasource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean"> <property name="jndiName" value="jdbc/dbA"/> </bean> <bean id="dbASessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="dbADatasource" /> <property name="hibernateProperties"> [hibernate properties...] </property> <property name="mappingResources"> [mapping resources...] </property> </bean> <bean id="dbBDatasource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean"> <property name="jndiName" value="jdbc/dbB"/> </bean> <bean id="dbBSessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="dbBDatasource" /> <property name="hibernateProperties"> [hibernate properties...] </property> <property name="mappingResources"> [mapping resources...] </property> </bean> Both of the JNDI resources are javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDatasoure's. They actually both point to the same connection pool, but we have two different JNDI resources because there's the possibility that the two groups of tables will move to different databases in the future. Then in code, I do: sessionA = dbASessionFactory.openSession(); sessionB = dbBSessionFactory.openSession(); sessionA.beginTransaction(); sessionB.beginTransaction(); The sessionB.beginTransaction() line produces the error in the title of this post - sometimes. I ran the app on two different sun application servers. On one runs it fine, the other throws the error. I don't see any difference in how the two servers are configured although they do connect to different, but equivalent databases. So the question is Why doesn't the above code start completely independent transactions? How can I force it to start independent transactions rather than a distributed transaction? What configuration could cause the difference in behavior between the two application servers? Thanks.

In debug mode, I can see that in class xxxController, messageSource is initialized to org.springframework.context.support.ReloadableResourceBundleMessageSource. I have annotated Message class with @Component and xxxHibernateDaoImpl with @Repository. I also included context namespace definition in servlet-context.xml. But in Message class and xxxHibernateDaoImpl class, the messageSource is still null.   Hi I am doing Silverlight 4 In my database, I have a store procedure(having two parameters) which returns rows (with extra fields). So i have to make a complex type for those rows on my Models. And Making a service to call that function import store procedure. The RIA will automatically create a matching Entity(to the complex type) and an operation for me. However, I don't know how to validation the parameters of the operation on both client and server side. For example, the parameter must be an integer only (and greater than 10) or datetime only. below is my xaml code. The RememberMe control in the login form, for example, really doesn’t need validation, so I forget to include the Html.ValidationMessageFor helper line for that control in particular. As a result, when I’m debugging using IE, I get a silly JSON parsing exception when changing focus from one field to another. The exception doesn’t hurt anything, as far as I know, but it’s just plain annoying. If you’re getting this error, and you don’t want validation messages showing up for controls on a form, you can put them in div tags and set the display style on the divs to none. When I have a handful of controls that I don’t want the validation messages for, I just throw them all in the same div and hide it.

  I am writing an ASP.NET MVC 2 application using NHibernate and repository pattern. I have an assembly that contains my model (business entities), moreover in my web project I want to use flattened objects (possibly with additional properties/logic) as ViewModels. These VMs contain UI-specific metadata (eg. DisplayAttribute used by Html.LabelFor() method). The problem is that I don't know how to implement validation so that I don't repeat myself throughout various tiers (specifically validation rules are written once in Model and propagated to ViewModel). I am using DataAnnotations on my ViewModel but this means no validation rules are imposed on the Model itself. One approach I am considering is deriving ViewModel objects from business entities adding new properties/overriding old ones, thus preserving validation metadata between the two however this is an ugly workaround. I have seen Automapper project which helps to map properties, but I am not sure if it can handle ASP.NET MVC 2 validation metadata properly. Is it difficult to use custom validation framework in asp.net mvc 2? Do you have any patterns that help to preserve DRY in regard to validation?

  Hi 2 all! When I worked on asp.net mvc web site project, I investigated different approaches for validation. Some of them were DataAnotation validation and Validation Block. They use attributes for setting up rules for validation. Like this: [Required] public string Name {get;set;} I was confused how this approach combines with SRP (single responsibilty principle) from OOP world. Also I don't like any business logic in business objects, I prefer "poor business objects" model, but when I decorate my business objects with validation attributes for real requirements, they become ugly (Has a lot of attributes / with localization logic and so on). Idea with attributes realy simple, but in my opinion the validation decoration should be separated from object. I'm not sure is the approach to separate validation rules to xml files or to another objects, maybe it is a solution. Another bad side of AOP - problems with unit testin such code. When I decorated some controller actions with custom attributes for example to import/export TempData between actions or initialize some required services I can't to write proper unit test for testing this actions. Do you think that attributes don't break srp or you just disregard this and think that it's simplest , is not worst way ? P.S. I read some likes articles and discussions and I just want to put things in proper order. P.P.S. sorry for my "fluent" english :=)

  I have bean an artist for many years now I am very comfortable with using Photoshop and Flash but I want to learn how to but together my own games, I bean doing my own research into this and at the moment I am at little bit stuck on witch direction to go down. So my question is witch programming language should I learn? I have already bean looking into this what i understand is that Gamemaker with its built in language (GML) is one of the most friendly to people who are new to the game making world. I have played around with this program and was pretty happy with it but I want more also you can use Unity with language such as C and javascript and then games built with Java witch looks interesting. One more thing before you send your answer in at this moment in time I would only be able to make 2D game but 3D isn't out of the picture.

Using SOA? is this correct? my current solution is run this java project using a bash, but I dont think it is then best idea.   Hi there! I currently have a JSF application that uses two listboxes. The first, say ListBox1, contains a list of manufacturers; each option comes from the database (via a method getManufacturers in a class called QueryUtil), is populated dynamically, and its value is an integer ID. This part works so far. My goal is to populate a second listbox, say ListBox2, with a list of products sold by the manufacturer. This list of products will come from the database as well (products are linked to a manufacturer via a foreign key relationship, via a method getProducts in my QueryUtil class). How do I go about doing this? Please bear in mind that I've been working with JSF for under 24 hours; I'm willing to accept the fact that I'm missing something very rudimentary.
