  • Custom HTML Helpers in ASP.NET MVC 2

    Hi, I want to create a pagination helper. The only parameters that it needs are currentpage, pagecount and routename. However, I do not know if it is possible to use the return value of another html helper inside the definition of my html helper. I am referring specifically to Html.RouteLink.   • Ad Server does not serve ads in Firefox, but works fine in Chrome, IE, & Safari!?

    I'm having a strange (likely JavaScript) related issue. I'm running Open X Ad Server ( http://www.openx.org ) which serves ads to the website http://upsidedowndogs.com . The ads load fine every time when visiting the site via Chrome, IE, or Safari, but sometimes don't load at all in FireFox - Hence, it is a client side issue, which leads me to believe its something up with the javascript. The fact that the problem is intermittent, and does not through any error codes to FireBug, also doesn't make it any easier to diagnose and address. Any ideas how to diagnose / address this issue?   • Lucene and Special Characters

    I am using Lucene.Net 2.0 to index some fields from a database table. One of the fields is a 'Name' field which allows special characters. When I perform a search, it does not find my document that contains a term with special characters. I index my field as such: Directory DALDirectory = FSDirectory.GetDirectory(@"C:\Indexes\Name", false); Analyzer analyzer = new StandardAnalyzer(); IndexWriter indexWriter = new IndexWriter(DALDirectory, analyzer, true, IndexWriter.MaxFieldLength.UNLIMITED); Document doc = new Document(); doc.Add(new Field("Name", "Test (Test)", Field.Store.YES, Field.Index.TOKENIZED)); indexWriter.AddDocument(doc); indexWriter.Optimize(); indexWriter.Close(); And I search doing the following: value = value.Trim().ToLower(); value = QueryParser.Escape(value); Query searchQuery = new TermQuery(new Term(field, value)); Searcher searcher = new IndexSearcher(DALDirectory); TopDocCollector collector = new TopDocCollector(searcher.MaxDoc()); searcher.Search(searchQuery, collector); ScoreDoc[] hits = collector.TopDocs().scoreDocs; If I perform a search for field as 'Name' and value as 'Test', it finds the document. If I perform the same search as 'Name' and value as 'Test (Test)', then it does not find the document. Even more strange, if I remove the QueryParser.Escape line do a search for a GUID (which, of course, contains hyphens) it finds documents where the GUID value matches, but performing the same search with the value as 'Test (Test)' still yields no results. I am unsure what I am doing wrong. I am using the QueryParser.Escape method to escape the special characters and am storing the field and searching by the Lucene.Net's examples. Any thoughts?

    I want rsyslog to write log messages in JSON format, which requires to use double-quotes (") around strings. Problem is that values sometime include double-quotes themselves, and those need to be escaped - but I can't figure out how to do that.   • How to create public html (apache2) with LDAP authentication?

    Im running Apache2 on Ubuntu 12.04 Server because I want to create a home directory for each ldap user. I'm using LDAP for authentication and it's working ok. Also I've done some tests with LDAP module for Apache2 and it's working ok. The problem with this LDAP authentication is that any success login can access to ~user/public_html, even if the user is not the owner of that home. I dont know how to control that, for example, userldap2 access to userldap1/public_html. I want that only the userldap1 access to userldap1. Could anybody tell me how to control that with LDAP authentication? I hope that you'll understand me.   • Does the upload file INPUT HTML element give any personal information away?

    I'm wondering what personal information the file input (<input type="file">) element gives the website. I noticed that it does show the file name and the website does seem to have access to it. What about the file's path? If the file is located in My Documents, they could find out the user name via the path (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\My Documents) which many times is the actual user's name that is using the website. What information do most modern browsers allow the website to access when a user uses the file input element? Could JavaScript somehow be used to gain more information? What about when plugins (such as Flash or Java) implement file uploading?

  • Terminal emulation has stopped working. Garbage escape chars

    To enable me to do some remote administration of our servers I started using a terminal emulation program called TouchTerm Pro on my iPhone. While not the smoothest experience, it has allowed me to leave my computer behind when going out of town, which makes the slightly painful experience worthwhile. As of late, the app unfortunately no longer works. Pressing up and down keys after logging on via ssh gives me garbage like ^[[A and ^[[B. Combinations with Ctrl - like you can see in the video - no longer works either. Writing full command lines and executing by the enter key works though. Being able to search my bash history was the difference between a usable app and endless frustration, so getting it to work is essential. The app has (of course) met its end of life, not getting updated anymore. I am not quite sure, which side (client or server) that has to be "fixed"/hacked to make the control sequences work again. But is there something I can do to make it work as intended? You can see a video of TouchTerm in operation here.

    Behavior: Load Safari 5.0 on mac. Press command+f to search for some text. Type something, and find it on the page. Hit esc to cancel the search. Irritatingly, get word completion menu rather than canceling. Is there any way to make esc cancel the search, like it used to with Safari 4.0, instead of pulling up a word completion dialog? It's very annoying. Failing that, what's the best way to cancel the search with the keyboard? Note: this also happens in any text field, the search box, the location bar etc.

  • Why does loading a html page opens automaically the printer dialog?

    I have the problem that loading a certain webpage in firefox automatically opens the printer dialog. How is that? Additional information: This only happens on firefox 24.0 on Windows 7. It neither happens on Windows Explorer in Windows 7 nor on Firefox 24 on a Linux system. This also happens when using the firefox safemode, with all add-ons disabled. I cannot post the webpage, since it is not public and restricted. Multiple javascript files are used, but none contains the expression print(). The page content does not contain the phrase 'printer'. It has nothing to do with printing something. This happens sometimes, but not always. I cannot say for sure the URL and/or the content is always identical. I can answer any other questions, like 'Does the page contain this and that...', 'does the URL contain this and that...' Basic question: What could be the reason for the annoying printer pop up?

And, consequently, there is no problem with the markup that Html.ValidationSummary spits out as a result. What if you want to put multiple forms in one view? Even if you create a view model that’s an aggregate of the view models for each form, the error validation summary is going to contain errors from both forms. Check out this screen shot, which shows a page with multiple forms. Notice how the error validation summary shows up twice. Grrr! Errors for the login form also show up in the registration form. Luckily, there is an easy way around this. Pull the errors out of the model state and separate them for each form. You’ll need to identify the appropriate form by setting the key when you make calls to ModelState.AddModelError. Assume in my example that errors for the login form are added to model state using the “LoginForm” key. And, likewise, assume that errors for the registration form are added to model state using the “RegistrationForm” key. And, this is important because each form is submitted separately in my case, so both forms don’t generate errors in the same context. As you’ll see in the screen shot below, errors added to the model state when the login form is submitted do not show up in the registration form’s validation summary.

  • Preview hidden options on web sites

    I want to have hidden options on my web site and be previewed only when the user chooses. I want to animate them from left and right (about 15%). At the moment I have them visible in my html but with width set at 0 and animate it at 15%. In these containers are many options which should disappear to the left/right (with slide effect). But I am not so sure that having all of this in my HTML so I am thinking to create them with jQuery, with 0 width and animating it to it's should be width and setting the other elements to 0 width. Is this approach good, or should I create them and hide the overflow so I would animate position. Or is there a better approach ??

It always return 0, no matter what I select in drop down list.   • Using RegEx to replace invalid characters

    Hello I have a directory with lots of folders, subfolder and all with files in them. The idea of my project is to recurse through the entire directory, gather up all the names of the files and replace invalid characters (invalid for a SharePoint migration). However, i'm completely unfamiliar with Regular Expressions. The characters i need to get rid in filenames are: ~, #, %, &, *, { } , \, /, :, <, ?, -, | and "" I want to replace these characters with a blank space. I was hoping to use a string.replace() method to look through all these file names and do the replacement. So far, the only code i've gotten to is the recursion. I was thinking of the recursion scanning the drive, fetching the names of these files and putting them in a List. Can anybody help me with how to find/replace invalid chars with RegEx with those specific characters?

    Hello, I've got an input box that allows UTF8 characters -- can I detect whether the characters are in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean programmatically (part of some Unicode range, perhaps)? I would change search methods depending on if MySQL's fulltext searching would work (it won't work for CJK characters). Thanks!

    I am seeing something strange in both firefox and chrome when I increase the zoom level inside these browsers, although I see nothing wrong with my CSS... I am hoping someone on this group will be able to help. Here is the whole story: I have a right-floated top-level div containing three right-floated right. The three inner divs have all box-model measurements in pixels which add up to the width of the enclosing container. Everything looks fine when the browser size is 100%, but when I start making the browser smaller with CTRL+scrollwheel or CTRL+minus the rightmost margin shrinks down too fast and eventually becomes zero, forcing my rightmost floated inner div to fall down below the other two! I can't make sense out of this, almost seems like some integer division is being performed incorrectly in the browser code, but alas firefox and chrome both display the same result.
