What exactly is a no-parameter method name?

From the Core Data docs: A property name cannot be the same as any no-parameter method name of NSObject or NSManagedObject—for example, you cannot give a property the name “description” Ok, so -description is blocked for property names. I guess it's because of KVC. But what exactly does "no-parameter" mean? Is that any method which does not take a parameter? So in other words: Any property of NSObject or NSManagedObject ANY method name of NSObject or NSManagedObject, which does not take a parameter Did I get that right?

WPF calls not working during long method processing

Hi, The following method does not apply the wpf changes (background = red) until the 2nd method (DoWork) exits: private void change() { Background = Brushes.Red; Dispatcher.BeginInvoke((Action) DoWork); } DoWork() takes several seconds to run and I don't really want to put it into a thread, as this code will be used in several places and will probably interact will the Dispatcher thread at various intervals. I've tried calling the Invalidate...() methods, but to no avail. The BeginInvoke() was added to see if the delay would allow the background change to be applied before the logic was called. Typically, the logic would be part of this method. Btw, most of the logic is performed on a different thread and shouldn't block the Dispatcher thread?! Can someone please help? Thanks

BlueJ Chpt 4 - Auction Project - How to make removeLot method work after entering a new lot

Hi All I am learning Java through BlueJ I would like to add a removeLot method to the Auction Class in BlueJ Chpt 4. This involves also returning the lot with the given number or null if there is no such lot. If you enter , say 5 lots and then use the remove method, this codes removes whichever lot you specify. However if you enter a new lot after using the removeLot method - an internal error message comes up regarding lotnumbering . Any ideas? Searching a column containing CSV data in a MySQL table for existence of input values

Hi, I have a table say, ITEM, in MySQL that stores data as follows: ID FEATURES -------------------- 1 AB,CD,EF,XY 2 PQ,AC,A3,B3 3 AB,CDE 4 AB1,BC3 -------------------- As an input, I will get a CSV string, something like "AB,PQ". I want to get the records that contain AB or PQ. I realized that we've to write a MySQL function to achieve this. So, if we have this magical function MATCH_ANY defined in MySQL that does this, I would then simply execute an SQL as follows: select * from ITEM where MATCH_ANY(FEAURES, "AB,PQ") = 0 The above query would return the records 1, 2 and 3. But I'm running into all sorts of problems while implementing this function as I realized that MySQL doesn't support arrays and there's no simple way to split strings based on a delimiter. Remodeling the table is the last option for me as it involves lot of issues. I might also want to execute queries containing multiple MATCH_ANY functions such as: select * from ITEM where MATCH_ANY(FEATURES, "AB,PQ") = 0 and MATCH_ANY(FEATURES, "CDE") In the above case, we would get an intersection of records (1, 2, 3) and (3) which would be just 3. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks

Processing XML form input in ASP

I'm maintaining a legacy application which consists of some ASP.Net pages with c# code behinds and some asp pages. I need to change the way the application accepts it's input from reading a set of parameters from some form fields to reading in one form field which contains contains some XML and parsing to get the parameters out. I've written a C# class that takes an The NameValueCollection from the C# HttpRequest's Form Element. Like so NameValueCollection form = Request.Form; Dictionary<string, string> fieldDictionary = RequestDataExtractor.BuildFieldDictionary(form); The code in the class looks for a particular parameter and if it's there processes the XML and outputs a Dictionary, if its not there it just cycles through the Form parameters and puts them all into the dictionary (Allowing the old method to still work) How would I do this in ASP? Can I use my same class, or a modified version of it? or do I have to write some new code to get this working? If I have to write ASP code Whats the best way to process the XML in ASP? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I know next to nothing about ASP and VB.

Does it mean this single method implementation is sufficient for inheriting all the three Interfaces? How can I implement the method of all the three interfaces and CALL THEM? I know it can done using explicit implementation but I'm not able to call them. :(

Prevent Method call without Exception using @PreAuthorize Annotation

Hi all. We are using Spring Security 3. We have a custom implementation of PermissionEvaluator that has this complex algorithm to grant or deny access at method level on the application. To do that we add a @PreAuthorize annotation to the method we want to protect (obviously). Everything is fine on that. However the behavior that we are looking for is that if a hasPermission call is denied, the protected method call only needs to be skipped, instead we are getting a 403 error each time that happens. Better to use constructor or method factory pattern?

I have a wrapper class for the Bitmap .NET class called BitmapZone. Assuming we have a WIDTH x HEIGHT bitmap picture, this wrapper class should serve the purpose of allowing me to send to other methods/classes itself instead of the original bitmap. I can then better control what the user is or not allowed to do with the picture (and I don't have to copy the bitmap lots of times to send for each method/class). My question is: knowing that all BitmapZone's are created from a Bitmap, what do you find preferrable? Constructor syntax: something like BitmapZone bitmapZone = new BitmapZone(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.From(originalBitmap, x , y, width, height); Factory Method Pattern: BitmapZone bitmapZone = BitmapZone.FromBitmap(originalBitmap, x, y, width, height); Other? Using iterateFunc to call objective c method

Using spacemanager, I need to perform an action on select bodies after each step, so I figured that defining my own C function for iterateFunc would be the way to go. Everything works great, except I'm not sure how to then call an obj c method in the same class. In other words, an obj c class contains both the c function replacing iterateFunc, and the method that needs to be called. I don't see how to tell the c function what 'self' is, such that I can call the method. As far as i can tell, there's no way to pass in any extra info to the new iterateFunc. Any ideas, or a better way to go about things?

Structuring input of data for localStorage

It is nice when there isn't a DB to maintain and users to authenticate. My professor has asked me to convert a recent research project of his that uses Bespin and calculates errors made by users in a code editor as part of his research. The goal is to convert from MySQL to using HTML5 localStorage completely. Doesn't seem so hard to do, even though digging in his code might take some time. Question: I need to store files and state (last placement of cursor and active file). I have already done so by implementing the recommendations in another stackoverflow thread. But would like your input considering how to structure the content to use. My current solution Hashmap like solution with javascript objects: files = {}; // later, saving files[fileName] = data; And then storing in localStorage using some recommendations localStorage.setObject(files): Currently I'm also considering using some type of numeric id. So that names can be changed without any hassle renaming the key in the hashmap. What is your opinion on the way it is solved and would you do it any differently?

Recently, our client has requested that we introduce access control via password protection. We are to meet the following criteria : Support remote login Support remote password change Support remote password retrieval Support data retrieval on accidental/purposeful deletion Support secure storage I'm capable of meeting the "remote" requirements using an existing library, however what I do need to consider is a method of storing this data, preferably in a way that will work on both platforms and will not let the user see it/read it, encryption is not the issue here - it's the storage method itself. Can anyone recommend a sage storage method that could help me meet those criteria?

C# method generic params parameter bug?

Hey, I appears to me as though there is a bug/inconsistency in the C# compiler. This works fine (first method gets called): public void SomeMethod(string message, object data); public void SomeMethod(string message, params object[] data); // .... SomeMethod("woohoo", item); Yet this causes "The call is ambiguous between the following methods" error: public void SomeMethod(string message, T data); public void SomeMethod(string message, params T[] data); // .... SomeMethod("woohoo", (T)item); I could just use the dump the first method entirely, but since this is a very performance sensitive library and the first method will be used about 75% of the time, I would rather not always wrap things in an array and instantiate an iterator to go over a foreach if there is only one item. Splitting into different named methods would be messy at best IMO. Thoughts?

iphone instance / class method issue

Hey All, Okay, so I have a viewController method that has some elements created with interface builder and some I coded myself. I created a view in the IB...lets call it viewOne. I created a loop that creates buttons (through code) and places them on a separate view (viewTwo). This is done in a class method. However, I want the view I made to be opened everytime one of the buttons is clicked. So I did: [button addTarget:self action:@selector(woogoo:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; The woogoo class does the following: +(void) woogoo:(id)sender { //back button [self.view addSubview:viewOne] } However, the program crashes when a button is clicked. I did try making woogoo an instance method but it also crashes in this case too. All I want to do is show viewOne when a button is clicked. Any ideas what I can do?

PhpBB3: adding background to specific php generated text input without affecting the other text inputs

I have created a custom PhpBB3 style and desperately since a few hours tried to add a background image to a specific comment text area. With firebug I checked if the comment text area had a class and it does, so I tried some css variations and finally tried: sn-inputComment { background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/pencil.png") repeat-x left top #FFFFFF;} { I also tried to find and manipulate the php generated text area but no success. Non of my methods worked. I will provide you all with a tinylink url to my forum with a test user and password access.
