• Weird flex date issue

  Flex is driving me CRAZY and I think it's some weird gotcha with how it handles leap years and none leap years. So here's my example. I have the below dateDiff method that finds the number of days or milliseconds between two dates. If I run the following three statements I get some weird issues. dateDiff("date", new Date(2010, 0,1), new Date(2010, 0, 31)); dateDiff("date", new Date(2010, 1,1), new Date(2010, 1, 28)); dateDiff("date", new Date(2010, 2,1), new Date(2010, 2, 31)); dateDiff("date", new Date(2010, 3,1), new Date(2010, 3, 30)); If you were to look at the date comparisons above you would expect to get 30, 27, 30, 29 as the number of days between the dates. There weird part is that I get 29 when comparing March 1 to March 31. Why is that? Is it something to do with February only having 28 days? • Quickly generate junk data of certain size in Javascript

  I am writing an upload speed test in Javascript. I am using Jquery (and Ajax) to send chunks of data to a server in order to time how long it takes to get a response. This should, in theory give an estimation, of the upload speed. Of course to cater for different bandwidths of the user I sequentially upload larger and larger amounts of junk data until a threshold duration is reached. Currently I generate the junk data using the following function, however, it is very slow when generation megabytes of data. function generate_random_data(size){ var chars = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"; var random_data = ""; for (var i = 0; i < size; i++){ var random_num = Math.floor(Math.random() * char.length); random_data = random_data + chars.substring(random_num,random_num+1); } return random_data; Really all I am doing is generating a chunk of bytes to send to the server, however, this is the only way I could find out how in Javascript. • Problem with php GD image not creating

  With the following code, my browser is returning 'image not created or saved'. I assure you the location of the image exists. So the line within the if statement is returning false for some reason, and yes GD is installed. • Collision between 2 objects of the same class

  Okay, so I have an enemy class(With rotation, position, texture and so on). I spawn a few enemies on the screen, they move around, but they overlap each other. So I tried to do a collision check between two enemies of the same class. But no matter what method I try, it isn't quite working. Anyway when i implemented this solution, the enemies were not overlapping so everything was fine on that part. But, they were always moving to the right side of the screen. I've also looked up flocking etc, but I would like to know, how can I detect collision between 2 objects of the same class?

When I checked the log, I noticed that the output (in Firebug) for target was: <div style="width: 97px; height: 97px;" class="square clickable" id="8"></div> If I output $(target), or $(this) from the each() function, I get a nice jQuery object: [ div#8.square ] Now here comes my question: why does this happen, considering that find() seems to return an array of jQuery objects? Why do I have to do $() to target all over again? [div#0.square, div#1.square, div#2.square, div#3.square, div#4.square, div#5.square, div#6.square, div#7.square, div#8.square] Just a curiosity :).

• Timer not beginning from 00:00

  I have a Game in which there is a timer involved. For each two minutes that passes a new round between different players begins. So, I have a text box starting from 00:00 and changes each second until it is equal to 02:00. Now, I want to save the state of the game in the middle of a round if the user closes the form. What I need to do is that upon loading, the textbox starts at the time that the user left the game the last time and continue up till 02:00 normally. How can I do this? • How to determine which enemy is hit and destroy it alone

I want to check if the enemy has the class of either smallEnemy, medEnemy, or lrgEnemy and then do the collision check which is what I thought I had but it doesn't seem to work. Also, the game starts to lag the more and more time goes on. Would anyone know the reason for that?

  I was wondering if it's a good idea to teach object oriented programming to my son? I was never really good at math as a kid, but I think since I've started programming it's given me a greater ability to understand math by being better able to visualise relationships between abstract models. I thought it might give him a better advantage in learning & applying logical & mathematical concepts throughout his life if he was able to take advantage of the tools available to programmers. what would be the best programming fields, techniques and/or concepts? What approach should I take? what concepts should I avoid? what fields of mathematics would he find this benfits him most? He's only 2 now so it wouldn't be for another few years before I do this, (and even at that, only from a very high level point of view).   Each plesk vhost only has one user access that httpdocs directory. I want to manage a whole bunch of separate virtual hosts using Git. Does this mean installing a separate Git repository with a separate user / ssh public key combination for each virtual host or is there a way of centralising it at all? Gitosis sounds like it might help - but I'm not sure if it gets round pushing the files to each virtual host.

I am having a problem when my application loads the CPU is pegging 50-70%. I have determined that the problem is with the Bitmap class. The OnLayoutUpdated() method is calling the InvalidateVisual() continously. This is because some points are not returning as equal but rather, Point(0.0,-0.5) Can anyone see any bugs within this code or know a better implmentation for pixel snapping a Bitmap image so it is not blurry? p.s. • Failure connecting to Dell MD3200i from XenServer 6.2 pool

  This question also asked at Citrix Forums http://forums.citrix.com/thread.jspa?threadID=332289 I have a MD3200i that is currently working fine with my Xen5.6 pool, but I cannot get a connection to the new 6.2 pool to work. I previously had a problem with a 6.0 upgrade (which is why the old pool is still on 5.6), but rolled back rather than fix it as it wasn't urgent at the time. This install is on new machines - I tried 6.1 first (which had the same problems) then 6.2 was released the second day after installation so I switched to that. I've not installed anything from the Dell resource DVD at this point - I can't find anything saying I should, and everything I have read suggests it shouldn't be necessary. I can ping all 8 ip addresses from both servers in the pool, iscsiadm -m discovery works fine, I can login to the nodes and iscsiadm reports the sessions active correctly. I've added the required sections to multipath.conf, but multipath -ll reports DM multipath kernel driver not loaded immediately after boot. • Why is user asked to choose their workgroup?

  We running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 with Mac OS X 10.5.8 clients. Students use network logins to, well, log in. I've been asked to deny internet access to a specific user. I was told that a good way to do it is to create a user workgroup called "No Internet Access" and manage settings there. (Specifically, I told parental controls to allow access to no sites, and blacklisted all the installed web browsers). Now, when the user authenticates to log in, they are greeted with this dialog: Workgroups for <username> Grade 7 Students No Internet Access It is unlikely that the student would willing choose "No Internet Access" to be their base group. Looking in Workgroup Manager at the student's record, it shows their primary group ID is the grade 7 group, and "No Internet Access" is listed as another group they belong to. I looked at the managed preferences for all the computers pertaining to logins. They are set to their defaults. Specifically, the computer groups' preference for Logins - Access has the defaults: [unchecked] Ignore workgroup nesting [checked] Combine available workgroup settings Based on my reading of Tips and Tricks for Mac Administrators, this should be correct, the user should not be asked which group they belong to, and settings from all applicable groups should be applied. How can I achieve that result? Edit: I've decided to add some additional information from the Tips and Tricks for Mac Management White Paper (via Apple in Education, via the author's site). On page 21, it says: With Leopard MCX, workgroup preference settings are combined by default into a single set of values. This means that instead of having to choose between the Math, Science, or Language Arts workgroups when logging in, a user can just authenticate and be taken directly to the desktop. All the settings for each of those workgroups are composited together, providing you with all the Dock items and a composite of all the other settings. On page 40, an example is given in which settings are combined from different 'domains', one computer group, two (user) workgroups, and one individual user's settings. [When johnd logs into a leopard client,] the items staged in the Dock from left to right are: computer group, first workgroup alphabetically, second workgroup, user. Items within the workgroup are staged alphabetically. Nowhere is there an indication that groups are nested; indeed, I can see no sensible (non-flat) heirarchy for groups like Math, Science, and Language Arts. I strongly believe that there is a way to apply settings from two unrelated user workgroups such that a user of OS X 10.5.x or newer does not need to choose their workgroup. This is what I seek to achieve.

  I have been going round and round trying to get any sort of PHP running on IIS 6. I somehow managed to successfully get version 5.1.4 running using the php5isapi.dll file. However, I want to upgrade a website to begin using a Content Management System. I have never dug into CMS before so I'm open to programs that are easy to use. I am currently looking into TomatoCMS and ImpressCMS - but that's beside the point. I have never done an installation with PHP before and I think I'm getting familiar with how it works. However the current situation is this. Microsoft's Web Platform Installer 2.0 installed FastCGI for me. I need to upgrade to PHP 5.3.1 for a CMS system. So I downloaded the Windows installer and let it go at it. After consulting several other blog articles, I believe I know how it is supposed to work but I am currently not having luck. THE SETUP *.php is a registered extension in IIS 6 for all websites (on Win 2k3). The application that it calls is C:\Windows\system32\inetsvr\fcgiext.dll, like it should. The fcgiext.ini config has the proper lines: [Types] php=PHP [PHP] ext=C:\program files\PHP\php-cgi.exe And the php.ini file also has the correct configs. All extensions are disabled and I changed the correct things for FastCGI. And everything is registered correctly with the PATH variable. Everything is exactly how it should be. BUT when I launch the "info.php" page () on another computer, I get the following error: FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: * Section [PHP] not found in config file. * Error Number: 1413 (0x80070585). * Error Description: Invalid index. HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS) A quick Google search reveals that I have it all setup correctly as far as the INI's go and the mapping of the php extension. I am completely at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions? Although the server is hosting three small websites, I don't really care what I have to do to it to get it to work.

What is the technical explanation as to why 20 machines sending test data around this network to each other is slower than one to one?   I want to rearrange rows with the mouse in Calc. In Excel, I select the whole row, then drag and drop it while holding SHIFT. This causes the drag and drop cursor to turn into a bar rather than cells, and the cells are inserted at the bar's position. Is there a way to accomplish the same sort of thing in Calc without going round the houses inserting columns before the drag operation?
