  Where do I go to disable the password complexity policy for the domain. I've logged onto the domain controller (Windows Server 2008) and found the option in local policies which is of course locked from any changes. However I can't find the same sort of policies in the group policy manager. Which nodes do I have to expand out to find it?

  I want to setup another Hyper-V VM for installing Matlabs/doing some compute-intensive programming using C. I keep thinking that Windows Server HPC 2008 is designed for this sort of work.   I've become so used to aligning windows to a grid on Windows (via Win+Arrow Key) and Linux (via Compiz Grid) that when I sit down at a Mac I want to gouge my eyes out trying to align windows. • OpenSwan + xl2tpd VPN: How can I share Internet connection

  I have an OpenSwan IPSec + L2TP VPN on Linux setup working from off of my server so I can connect to it from my laptop (roadwarrior setup). I am able to connect to the VPN remotely just fine, however the internet connection is not shared. I'm assuming there is some sort of masquerading I am supposed to be doing, but I have no idea how to go about doing that (iptables?). Any help getting this working so I can essentially use my VPN connection as a proxy would be great. Thanks

  I have port forwarded our front-facing IP to an internal HTTPS server. The browser does not connect. A wget command determines that the certificate is self-signed for the internal IP.   In emacs, yanking works something like this: if you delete something, it can be yanked back into another position. In other words, emacs's yank is sort of like cut and paste. On the other hand, it seems like vim's yank is like copy and paste: I can yank something and then paste it elsewhere, but the original text is still there. Is there any way to cut the text rather than just copying it in vim?

  i have a text file where each line looks like this: <img border=0 width=555 height=555 src=http://websitelinkimagelinkhere> each line is like that for like 1500 lines, i want to sort of 'grep' (i dont think that will work because it returns the whole line) each line for 'http://websiteimagelinkhere' output file should have newlines or tabs after each image link, like the original file. or if someone only knows a way to do this with each element being in a cell of the same column that would be okay too.

• Is there a peripheral that lets my computer monitor the connectivity of pairs of wires?

  I've got a bunch of physical switches and circuits that act like switches (they're either connected to ground or they're just an open wire). Is there some sort of thing I can plug into my computer (ideally, via USB) that has a bunch of screw terminals, and I can attach wires to the screws and have the computer keep track of which circuits are closed and which are open? Bonus points if the device also lets the computer open and close switches, too. I don't even know what to google for.

I have been seeing lately some failures to authenticate and wonder if it is related to these errors? I have seen a possible timeout problem in the 2.2 Code base and not sure if theres a patch or if I would have to upgrade to the latest openldap version? thanks kosta

• How would I isolate one networked PC to LAN only?

  I would like to have one of my PCs available to the rest of my home network for file sharing and VNC access, but I want to block any Internet traffic going to and from the PC. In other words, I want all local PCs I have connected to the router functioning as any normal LAN would, but when it comes to the Internet I want one particular PC to be "safe" from the Internet. My guess is that this is some sort of port blocking or some other router function, but I'm not quite sure.

I hear databases like mySQL or SQLite would be good ways to do this sort of thing, but I don't really know where to start. I'm comfortable with the linux command-line, and have done some HTML/CSS work in the past, so I feel unintimidated by databases and things...I just don't know what to start doing.
