• How might maven's buildNumber metadata become inconsistent across multiple build agents?

  We recently added a second build machine to our build environment and began experiencing very odd occasional build failures. I have two separate Maven build machines, A and B, each running Maven 2.2.1 and communicating to a shared Nexus 1.5.0 repository manager. My problem is that builds on B will occasionally fail because it refuses to download a newer version of a common dependency 'acme-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT' previously built by A and uploaded to Nexus. Looking inside the local repositories on both machines I noticed some oddities in the repository metadata. Machine A's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>1</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100525173546</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> Machine B's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>2</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100519232317</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> In Nexus's acme/1.0.0-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning /> </metadata> If I'm interpreting the metadata files correctly (documentation online is scant), it appears machine B believes it has a newer version of the acme dependency (based on buildNumber) despite the fact that machine A last built it 6 days after machine B did (based on timestamp). Nexus also appears to be unaware of a universally correct buildNumber. How could this situation possibly arise? What could I do to prevent my builds from failing due to inconsistent metadata? Have you experienced anything similar? Important notes: Both build machines have settings.xml files where the updatePolicy is "always". Nexus does indeed have the newer version of acme that was built by A. B simply refuses to download it. A and B are the only machines uploading to Nexus. Both servers share the same system time. All processes involved have write privileges to the metadata files so that they can be updated as necessary. I was unable to find any open Maven or Nexus issues describing this behaviour. Our CI server (Atlassian Bamboo) prevents builds of the same artifact from happening concurrently, so some race condition while uploading to Nexus is rather unlikely.

• OutOfMemoryError during the pdf merge

• Cannot create Desktop shortcut

  I have a WiX project and I want to automatically create a ProgramMenu and Desktop shortcut. I've tried the following but the Desktop shortcut is not created. • Nhibernate Migration from 1.0.2.0 to 2.1.2 and many-to-one save problems

  Hi, we have an old, big asp.net application with nhibernate, which we are extending and upgrading some parts of it. NHibernate that was used was pretty old ( 1.0.2.0), so we decided to upgrade to ( 2.1.2) for the new features. HBM files are generated through custom template with MyGeneration. Everything went quite smoothly, except for one thing. Lets say we have to objects Blog and Post. Blog can have many posts, so Post will have many-to-one relationship. Due to the way that this application operates, relationship is done not through primary keys, but through Blog.Reference column. As i understand, in old version, for nhibernate it was enough to have Blog.Reference field, and it could retrieve entity by that field, and attach it to PostEntity, and when saving PostEntity, everything would work correctly. And as i understand, new NHibernate tries only to retrieve by Blog.Id. How to solve this? I cannot change DB design, nor can i assign an Id to BlogEntity, as objects are out of my control (they come prefilled as generic "ojbects" like this from external source)

• Cutting large XML file into smaller pieces in C#

  I have a problem that I'm working on for quite some time now. I have an XML file with over 50000 records (one record has 3 levels). This file is used by one of my applications to control document sending (the record holds, among other informations, the type of document that has to be sent to a certain person). So in my application I load the XML file into a XmlDocument, and then by using SelectNodes method, I create a XmlNodeList from which I read the data I want. The process is like this - our worker takes the persons ID card (simple eith barcode) and reads it with barcode reader. When the barcode value has been read, my application finds the person with that ID in the XML file, and stores the type of the document into a string variable. Then the worker takes the document and reads its barcode, and if the value of documents barcode and the value in the value in the string variable match, the application makes a record that document of type xxxxxxxx will be sent to the person with ID yyyyyyyyy. This works, but only for files that have up to 2000 records (and my has way more than that). So, if I need to cut the file into smaller pieces, what would be the best way to do it (keep in mind that there could be up to half a million records in a XML file)? Thanks

• Parse filename, insert to SQL

  Thanks to Code Poet, I am now working off of this code to parse all .txt files in a directory and store them in a database. I need a bit more help though... The file names are R303717COMP_148A2075_20100520.txt (the middle section is unique per file). I would like to add something to code so that it can parse out the R303717COMP and put that in the left column of the database such as: (this is not the only R number we have) R303717COMP data data data R303717COMP data data data R303717COMP data data data etc Lastly, I would like to have it store each full file name into another table that gets checked so that it doesn't get processed twice.. • Separation of presentation and business logic in PHP

  I am programming my first real PHP website and am wondering how to make my code more readable to myself. The reference book I am using is PHP and MySQL Web Development 4th ed. The aforementioned book gives three approaches to separating logic and content: include files function or class API template system I haven't chosen any of these yet, as wrapping my brains around these concepts is taking some time. However, my code has become some hybrid of the first two as I am just copy-pasting away here and modifying as I go. On presentation side, all of my pages have these common elements: header, top navigation, sidebar navigation, content, right sidebar and footer. The function-based examples in the book suggest that I could have these display functions that handle all the presentation example. So, my page code will be like this: display_header(); display_navigation(); display_content(); display_footer(); However, I don't like this because the examples in the book have these print statements with HTML and PHP mixed up like this: echo "<tr bgcolor=\"".$color."\"><td><a href=\"".$url."\">" ... I would rather like to have HTML with some PHP in the middle, not the other way round. I am thinking of making my pages so that at the beginning of my page, I will fetch all the data from database and put it in arrays. I will also get the data for variables. If there are any errors in any of these processes, I will put them into error strings. Then, at the HTML code, I will loop through these arrays using foreach and display the content. In some cases, there will be some variables that will be shown. If there is an error variable that is set, I will display that at the proper position. (As a side note: The thing I do not understand is that in most example code, if some database query or whatnot gives an error, there is always: else echo 'Error'; This baffles me, because when the example code gives an error, it is sometimes echoed out even before the HTML has started...) For people who have used ASP.NET, I have gotten somewhat used to the code-behind files and lblError and I am trying to do something similar here. The thing I haven't figured out is how could I do this "do logic first, then presentation" thing so that I would not have to replicate for example the navigation logic and navigation presentation in all of the pages. Should I do some include files or could I use functions here but a little bit differently? Are there any good articles where these "styles" of separating presentation and logic are explained a little bit more thoroughly. The book I have only has one paragraph about this stuff. What I am thinking is that I am talking about some concepts or ways of doing PHP programming here, but I just don't know the terms for them yet. I know this isn't a straight forward question, I just need some help in organizing my thoughts.

  Thank you all in advance. I've got some great answers to my sometimes stupid questions, so thank you again. I'm trying to parse a SOAP response using PHP, Xpath (namespaces) and SimpleXML.   I have been trying to use Ant to compile and ready a project for distribution. I have encountered several problems along the way that I have been finally able to solve but the solution leaves me very unsatisfied. First, let me explain the set-up of the project and its dependencies. I have a project, lets call it Primary which depends on a couple of libraries such as the fantastic Guava. It also depends on another project of mine, lets call it Secondary. The Secondary project also features some dependencies, for example, JDOM2. I have referenced the Jar I build with Ant in Primary. Furthermore, I believe that including these libraries as class files is bad practice as it could give rise to licensing issues while not packaging them and merely including them in a directory along the build Jar would most probably not (And if it would you could choose not to distribute them yourself). I think my inability to correctly assemble the class path, I always received NoClassDefFoundError for classes or libraries in the Primary project when launching Second's Jar, is that I am not very experienced with Ant. Would I require to specify a class path for both projects? Specifying the class path as . should have allowed me to simply add all dependencies to the same folder as Secondary's Jar, should it not?

• Create and Share a File (Also a mysterious error)

  My goal is to create a XML file and then send it through the share Intent. I'm able to create a XML file using this code FileOutputStream outputStream = context.openFileOutput(fileName, Context.MODE_WORLD_READABLE); PrintStream printStream = new PrintStream(outputStream); String xml = this.writeXml(); // get XML here printStream.println(xml); printStream.close(); I'm stuck trying to retrieve a Uri to the output file in order to share it. I first tried to access the file by converting the file to a Uri File outFile = context.getFileStreamPath(fileName); return Uri.fromFile(outFile); This returns file:///data/data/com.my.package/files/myfile.xml but I cannot appear to attach this to an email, upload, etc. If I manually check the file length, it's proper and shows there is a reasonable file size. Next I created a content provider and tried to reference the file and it isn't a valid handle to the file. The ContentProvider doesn't ever seem to be called a any point. Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://" + CachedFileProvider.AUTHORITY + "/" + fileName); return uri; This returns content://com.my.package.provider/myfile.xml but I check the file and it's zero length. How do I access files properly? Do I need to create the file with the content provider? If so, how? Update Here is the code I'm using to share.   I'm doing an aplication for Android and something I need is that it shows a list of all files and directories in the SD Card and it has to be able to move through the different directories. • Dot Net Nuke module works in "Edit" mode but not for "View": cache problem?

  I have a DNN task that simply runs some Javascript to compute a price based on a few input fields. This module works fine on our production site, but we had a company do a skin for us to improve the look of the site and the module fails under this new system. (DNN 05.06.00 (459) although it was 5.5 prior... I updated in a futile hope that it was a bug in the old revision.) What is incredibly odd about this is that the module works fine when I'm logged in to DNN and using the Edit mode as an administrator. In this case the small snippet of JavaScript loads fine and filling the fields results in a price. On the other hand it I click "View" (or more importantly, if I'm not logged in at all) the page loads a cached copy. Even odder, I have found the cache files in \Portals\2\Cache\Pages are generated and then only the cached data is being used. When the cached copy is loaded, the JavaScript doesn't appear (it is normally created via a Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(). Additionally, the button which posts the data to the server doesn't execute any of the server side code (confirmed with a debugger) but instead just reloads the cached copy. If I manually delete the files in \Portals\2\Cache\Pages then everything works properly, but I have to do so after every page load: failing to do so simply loads the page as it was last generated repeatedly. Resetting the application (either via the UI or editing web.config) doesn't change this and clearing the cache from the Host Settings page doesn't actually clear these cached pages. I'm guessing that Edit mode bypasses the cache in some way, but I have gone as far as turning off all caching on the site (which is horrible for performance) and the cached version is still loaded. Has anyone seen anything like this? Shouldn't clearing the cache clear the files (I'm using the File provider for caching)? Shouldn't even a cached page go back to the server if the user posts back? EDIT: I should point out that permissions don't appear to be a problem on the cache directory... other pages cached output are deleted from this folder, just this page has this issue. EDIT 2: Clarifying some settings and conditions which I didn't provide. First, this module works fine in production under DNN 5.6.0. In our test environment with the consulting company's changes it fails (the changes are skin and page layout only in theory: the module source itself verifies as unchanged). All cache settings and the like have been verified the same between the two and we only resorted to setting the module cache to 0 and -1 (and disabling the test site's cache entirely) when we couldn't find another cause for the problem. I have watched the cache work correctly on many other pages in test: there is something about this page that is causing the problem. We have punted and are creating an installable skin based on the consultant's work as I suspect they have somehow corrupted the DNN install (database side I think).

• C++ Serial Port Question

  Problem: I have a hand held device that scans those graphic color barcodes on all packaging. There is a track device that I can use that will slide the device automatically. This track device functions by taking ascii code through a serial port. I need to get this thing to work in FileMaker on a Mac. So no terminal programs, etc... What I've got so far: I bought a Keyspan USB/Serial adapter. Using a program called ZTerm I was successful in sending commands to the device. Example: "C,7^M^J" I was also able to do the same thing in Terminal using this command: screen /dev/tty.KeySerial1 57600 and then type in the same command above(but when I typed in I just hit Control-M and Control-J for the carriage return and line feed) Now I'm writing a plug-in for FileMaker(in C++ of course). I want to get what I did above happen in C++ so when I install that plug-in in FileMaker I can just call one of those functions and have the whole process take place right there. I'm able to connect to the device, but I can't talk to it. It is not responding to anything. I've tried connecting to the device(successfully) using these: FILE *comport; if ((comport = fopen("/dev/tty.KeySerial1", "w")) == NULL){...} and int fd; fd = open("/dev/tty.KeySerial1", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_NDELAY); This is what I've tried so far in way of talking to the device: fputs ("C,7^M^J",comport); or fprintf(comport,"C,7^M^J"); or char buffer[] = { 'C' , ',' , '7' , '^' , 'M' , '^' , 'J' }; fwrite (buffer , 1 , sizeof(buffer) , comport ); or fwrite('C,7^M^J', 1, 1, comport); Questions: When I connected to the device from Terminal and using ZTerm, I was able to set my baud rate of 57600. I think that may be why it isn't responding here. But I don't know how to do it here.... Does any one know how to do that? I tried this, but it didn't work: comport->BaudRate = 57600; There are a lot of class solutions out there but they all call these include files like termios.h and stdio.h. I don't have these and, for whatever reason, I can't find them to download. I've downloaded a few examples but there are like 20 files in them and they're all calling other files I can't find(like the ones listed above). Do I need to find these and if so where? I just don't know enough about C++ Is there a website where I can download libraries?? Another solution might be to put those terminal commands in C++. Is there a way to do that? So this has been driving me crazy. I'm not a C++ guy, I only know basic programming concepts. Is anyone out there a C++ expert? I ideally I'd like this to just work using functions I already have, like those fwrite, fputs stuff. Thanks!

• Java File I/O problems

  This is my first time working with file i/o in java, and it's not working. The section of the program where I parse individual lines and output a semicolon delimited line works like a charm when I hardcode a file and display on screen. Whne I try to write to a file public static OutputStream... errors out as an illegal start to expression, and I've been unable to get the program to step through an entire directory of files instead of one at a time. Where I'm not clear: I'm note setting an output filename anywhere...whare am I supposed to do that? The path variable won't pass. What's the proper format for a path? • Windows App. Thread Aborting Issue

  I'm working on an application that has to make specific decisions based on files that are placed into a folder being watched by a file watcher. Part of this decision making process involves renaming files before moving them off to another folder to be processed. Since I'm working with files of all different sizes I created an object that checks the file in a seperate thread to verify that it is "available" and when it is it fires an event. When I run the rename code from inside this available event it works. public void RenameFile_Test() { string psFilePath = @"C:\File1.xlsx"; tgt_File target = new FileObject(psFilePath); target.FileAvailable += new FileEventHandler(OnFileAvailable); target.FileUnAvailable += new FileEventHandler(OnFileUnavailable); } private void OnFileAvailable(object source, FileEventArgs e) { ((FileObject)source).RenameFile(@"C:\File2.xlsx"); } The problem I'm running into is that when the extensions are different from the source file and the rename to file I am making a call to a conversion factory that returns a factory object based on the type of conversion and then converts the file accordingly before doing the rename. When I run that particular piece of code in unit test it works, the factory object is returned, and the conversion happens correctly. But when I run it within the process I get up to the... moExcelApp = new Application(); part of converting an .xls or .xlsx to a .csv and i get a "Thread was being Aborted" error. Any thoughts? Update: There is a bit more information and a bit of map of how the application works currently. Client Application running FSW On File Created event Creates a FileObject passing in the path of the file. On construction the file is validated: if file exists is true then, Thread toAvailableCheck = new Thread(new ThreadStart(AvailableCheck)); toAvailableCheck.Start(); The AvailableCheck Method repeatedly tries to open a streamreader to the file until the reader is either created or the number of attempts times out. If the reader is opened, it fires the FileAvailable event, if not it fires the FileUnAvailable event, passing back itself in the event. The client application is wired to catch those events from inside the Oncreated event of the FSW. the OnFileAvailable method then calls the rename functionality which contains the excel interop call. If the file is being renamed (not converted, extensions stay the same) it does a move to change the name from the old file name to the new, and if its a conversion it runs a conversion factory object which returns the correct type of conversion based on the extensions of the source file and the destination file name. If it is a simple rename it works w/o a problem. If its a conversion (which is the XLS to CSV object that is returned as a part of the factory) the very first thing it does is create a new application object. That is where the application bombs. When i test the factory and conversion/rename process outside of the thread and in its own unit test the process works w/o a problem. Update: I tested the Excel Interop inside a thread by doing this: [TestMethod()] public void ExcelInteropTest() { Thread toExcelInteropThreadTest = new Thread(new ThreadStart(Instantiate_App)); toExcelInteropThreadTest.Start(); } private void Instantiate_App() { Application moExcelApp = new Application(); moExcelApp.Quit(); } And on the line where the application is instatntiated I got the 'A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' error. So I added; toExcelInteropThreadTest.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.MTA); after the thread instantiation and before the thread start call and still got the same error. I'm getting the notion that I'm going to have to reconsider the design.

  I'm having trouble getting data from MongoDB using mongoose schemas with express. I first tested with just mongoose in a single file (mongoosetest.js) and it works fine. But when I start dividing it all up with express routes and config files, things start to break.   In short: in Clojure, is there a way to redefine a function from the standard sequence API (which is not defined on any interface like ISeq, IndexedSeq, etc) on a custom sequence type I wrote? 1. Huge data files I have big files in the following format: A long (8 bytes) containing the number n of entries n entries, each one being composed of 3 longs (ie, 24 bytes) 2. Custom sequence I want to have a sequence on these entries. Since I cannot usually hold all the data in memory at once, and I want fast sequential access on it, I wrote a class similar to the following: (deftype DataSeq [id ^long cnt ^long i cached-seq] clojure.lang.IndexedSeq (index [_] i) (count [_] (- cnt i)) (seq [this] this) (first [_] (first cached-seq)) (more [this] (if-let [s (next this)] s '())) (next [_] (if (not= (inc i) cnt) (if (next cached-seq) (DataSeq. id cnt (inc i) (next cached-seq)) (DataSeq. id cnt (inc i) (with-open [f (open-data-file id)] ; open a memory mapped byte array on the file ; seek to the exact position to begin reading ; decide on an optimal amount of data to read ; eagerly read and return that amount of data )))))) The main idea is to read ahead a bunch of entries in a list and then consume from that list. Whenever the cache is completely consumed, if there are remaining entries, they are read from the file in a new cache list. Simple as that. To create an instance of such a sequence, I use a very simple function like: (defn ^DataSeq load-data [id] (next (DataSeq. id (count-entries id) -1 []))) ; count-entries is a trivial "open file and read a long" memoized As you can see, the format of the data allowed me to implement count in very simply and efficiently. 3. drop could be O(1) In the same spirit, I'd like to reimplement drop. The format of these data files allows me to reimplement drop in O(1) (instead of the standard O(n)), as follows: if dropping less then the remaining cached items, just drop the same amount from the cache and done; if dropping more than cnt, then just return the empty list. otherwise, just figure out the position in the data file, jump right into that position, and read data from there. My difficulty is that drop is not implemented in the same way as count, first, seq, etc. The latter functions call a similarly named static method in RT which, in turn, calls my implementation above, while the former, drop, does not check if the instance of the sequence it is being called on provides a custom implementation. Obviously, I could provide a function named anything but drop that does exactly what I want, but that would force other people (including my future self) to remember to use it instead of drop every single time, which sucks. So, the question is: is it possible to override the default behaviour of drop? 4. A workaround (I dislike) While writing this question, I've just figured out a possible workaround: make the reading even lazier. The custom sequence would just keep an index and postpone the reading operation, that would happen only when first was called. The problem is that I'd need some mutable state: the first call to first would cause some data to be read into a cache, all the subsequent calls would return data from this cache. There would be a similar logic on next: if there's a cache, just next it; otherwise, don't bother populating it -- it will be done when first is called again. This would avoid unnecessary disk reads. However, this is still less than optimal -- it is still O(n), and it could easily be O(1). Anyways, I don't like this workaround, and my question is still open. Any thoughts? Thanks.

• Having trouble with multiple Jquery libraries

  I've seen the posts about the no conflict but I'm not very code savvy and can't figure it out alone. I'm having trouble making two libraries work together. At the top I have the 1.9.1 library which controls a news ticker, and a carousel. Near the bottom there is a library 1.6.1, which controls a Dribbble feed. If I remove 1.6.1 everything but the dribbble feed works, and if I remove the 1.9.1 the dribbble feed is the only thing that works. I uploaded the website for you guys to check out. If you could edit my code to make it work that would be amazing, I don't have much knowledge of jquery. • PHP will not Echo

  I've tried to look into why this isn't echoing but every result the persons trying use php on an html page so this is why I'm here asking. I have 3 php files, a login file, a global config file, and a theme file. The login page echo's the login script but it connects to the global file. The global file connects to the theme file and the db config file. The theme file is a simple table. • Cisco Unified Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

  I just installed SharePoint 2010 on my Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with SQL Server 2008. Everything is installed on this single server, and I configured SharePoint 2010 as described here: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 Everything installed correct, and the SQL databases were created. • NSFetchedResultsController crashing on performFetch: when using a cache

  I make use of NSFetchedResultsController to display a bunch of objects, which are sectioned using dates. On a fresh install, it all works perfectly and the objects are displayed in the table view. However, it seems that when the app is relaunched I get a crash. I specify a cache when initialising the NSFetchedResultsController, and when I don't it works perfectly. The only potential issue is the section header (day), which I construct like this when creating a new object: // Set the new format [formatter setDateFormat:@"dd MMMM"]; // Set the day of the event [event setValue:[formatter stringFromDate:[event valueForKey:@"utc_start"]] forKey:@"day"]; Like I mentioned, all of this works fine if there is no cache involved.   I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and I'm getting this error on startup of Eclipse: An internal error occurred during: Processing Java changes since last activation org.eclipse.core.resources.IWorkspace.addSaveParticipant(Ljava/lang/String;Lorg/eclipse/core/resources/ISaveParticipant;)Lorg/eclipse/core/resources/ISavedState; I pasted my full eclipse configuration here: http://pastebin.com/NtzN0HRG. And, here's a basic synopsis of what I have installed so far: EPIC (for Perl), Aptana (for web), Subversion connectors (with JavaHL), and PyDev. Any ideas?
