• Python: deleting rows in a text file

  A sample of the following text file i have is: > 1 -4.6 -4.6 -7.6 > > 2 -1.7 -3.8 -3.1 > > 3 -1.6 -1.6 -3.1 the data is separated by tabs in the text file and the first column indicates the position. I need to iterate through every value in the text file apart from column 0 and find the lowest value. once the lowest value has been found that value needs to be written to a new text file along with the column name and position. Column 0 has the name "position" Column 1 "fifteen", column 2 "sixteen" and column 3 "seventeen" for example the lowest value in the above data is "-7.6" and is in column 3 which has the name "seventeen". Therefore "7.6", "seventeen" and its position value which in this case is 1 need to be written to the new text file. I then need a number of rows deleted from the above text file. E.G. the lowest value above is "-7.6" and is found at position "1" and is found in column 3 which as the name "seventeen". I therefore need seventeen rows deleted from the text file starting from and including position 1 so the the column in which the lowest value is found denotes the amount of rows that needs to be deleted and the position it is found at states the start point of the deletion

• Scale image to fit text boxes around borders

  I have the following plot in Matlab: The image size may vary, and so may the length of the text boxes at the top and left. I dynamically determine the strings that go in these text boxes and then create them with: [M,N] = size(img); imagesc((1:N)-0.5,(1:M)-0.5, img > 0.5); axis image; grid on; colormap([1 1 1; 0.5 0.5 0.5]); set(gca,'XColor','k','YColor','k','TickDir','out') set(gca,'XTick',1:N,'XTickLabel',cell(1,N)) set(gca,'YTick',1:N,'YTickLabel',cell(1,N)) for iter = 1:M text(-0.5, iter-0.5, sprintf(strL, br{iter,:}), ... The problem is that most of the time, the text gets clipped by the edges of the figure. I am using this as a workaround: set(gca,'Position',[0.25 0.25 0.5 0.5]); As you can see, I am simply adding a larger border around the plot so that there is more room for the text. While this scaling works for one zoom level, if I maximize my plot window I get way too much empty space, and if I shrink my plot window, I get clipping again. Is there a more intelligent way to add these labels to use the minimum amount of space while making sure that the text does not get clipped?

• Long text input from user and PDF generation

  I have built a web application that can be seen as an overcomplicated application form. There are bunch of text areas with a given character limit. After the form submission various things happen and one of them is PDF generation. The text is queried from the DB and inserted in the PDF template created in iReports. This works fine but the major pain is overflowing text. The maximum number of characters is set based on 'average' text. But sometimes people prefer to write with CAPS or add plenty of linefeeds to format their text. These then cause user's text to overflow the space given in PDF. Unfortunately the PDF document must look like a real application form so I cannot allow unlimited space. What kind of approaches you have used to tackle this? Clean/restrict user input? Calculate the space requirement of the text based on font metrics? Provide preview of the PDF? (too bad users are not allowed to change their input after submission...)

• Javascript: I can get the text of a selection, now how do I get the text outside the selection?

  I have a bit of code that returns the text of a selection and I can assign that string to a variable, but now all I need are two variables, one for the text before the selection and one for the text after the selection. Here is the code for getting the selection: function findSelection(){ //returns the selection object. var userSelection; if (window.getSelection) {userSelection = window.getSelection();} // Mozilla Selection object. else if (document.selection){userSelection = document.selection.createRange();} //gets Microsoft Text Range, should be second b/c Opera has poor support for it. if (userSelection.text){return userSelection.text} //for Microsoft Objects. else {return userSelection} //For Mozilla Objects. } Then I find the anchorOffset and focusOffset to find the caret positions. I tried using these to modify a range object, like this: var range = document.createRange(); range.setStart(textdiv,0); range.setEnd(textdiv,5); Where textdiv is a variable holding the last div the user clicked on. The problem is firefox just gives me a "Security error" code: "1000" at the line range.setStart(textdiv,0);. Is there an easier way to go about doing this? I really just need the text and nothing more.

However, in Chrome it's 11 because it thinks there's a linefeed after the '9'. In IE it's also 11, but the last character is an escape. Meanwhile, Opera thinks there are 12 characters, with the last two being CR LF. If I change the body element to include a span: <body onload="init()"><span>0123456789</span></body> and the jQuery call to: var text = jQuery('body span').text(); then all the browsers agree that the length is 10. Clearly it's the body element that's causing the issue, but can anyone explain exactly why this is happening? I'm particularly surprised because the excellent jQuery is normally browser-independent.

• import text file containing line breaks into excel

  I have a plain text file looking like this: "some text containing line breaks" I'm trying to talk excel 2004 (Mac, v.11.5) into opening this file correctly. I'd expect to see only one cell (A1) containing all of the above (without the quotes)... But alas, I can't make it happen, because Excel seems to insist on using the CR's as row delimiters, even if I set the text qualifier to double quote. I was sort of hoping that Excel would understand that those line breaks are part of the value - they are embedded in double quotes which should qualify them as part of the value. So my Excel sheet has 5 rows, which is not what I want. I also tried this Applescript to no avail: tell application "Microsoft Excel" activate open text file filename ¬ "Users:maximiliantyrtania:Desktop:linebreaks" data type delimited ¬ text qualifier text qualifier double quote ¬ field info {{1, text format}} ¬ origin Macintosh with tab end tell If I could tell Excel to use a row delimiter other than CR (or LF), well, I'd be a happy camper, but excel seems to allow the change of the field delimiter only, not the row delimiter.   I have noticed a rather strange behaviour in IE. I have a HTML form with a single input text field and a submit button On Submit click I need to execute a client side JavaScript function that does the necessary. • Java/Python: Integration, problem with looping updating text

  Hello! Basically I have a script in Python that grabs the text from an open window using getWindowText() and outputs it to the screen. The python loops so as the text in the window changes, it outputs the changes, so the output of the python will always be up to date with the window text. I'm trying to access this text in my Java program by executing the python script as a process and reading the text it outputs using a buffered reader. For some reason this works fine for the first block of text, but will not read any more after this, it wont read any updates to the text as the python outputs it. Can someone shed some light on this?   Hi, I've created a linechart in flex using pure as3. I need now to convert it to a dynamic multi axis chart. What I mean by dynamic, is that I can programmatically add or remove axisrenderers from the verticalaxisrenderer array at runtime. It seems i can remove axisrenderers at runtime by simply doing this: verticalAxisRenderers = verticalAxisRenderers.splice(index,1); However, ADDING axisrenderers is not working. Trying to build the static lib, I get this error: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/libtool: -dynamic not specified the following flags are invalid: -ObjC It is followed by these two lines, which I do understand, but this appears to be a separate problem (missing file.) /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/libtool: can't locate file for: -lFlurryWithLocation /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/libtool: file: -lFlurryWithLocation is not an object file (not allowed in a library) Command /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/libtool failed with exit code 1 Am I wrong, and it's all related? Will the 1st line error go away if I fix the missing file part? Either way, what does the -dynamic not specified part of message mean? Thanks!

• flash dynamic textfield, multiline and wordwrap acting funky.

  I have this weird thing happening with flash and a dynamic textfield. Basically, someone rolls over a marker on a map, and a tooltip pops up with a dynamic textfield. The textfield is set to multiline=true and wordwrap = true, and I defined a specific width of 160 pixels. The problem is, some of my text is jumping to the next line, some of it is just getting cut off. So if I have a line like "The Cat Jumped Over the Box", On one line I will see "The Cat Jumped" and on the next line I would see "the Box". It looks like it is masking out the "over" line and not pushing it to the next line. It's not doing this for everything, just some longer lines. This is a really weird bug and I have tried for 8 hours to get this fixed. Has anyone ran into this problem before?

  Hello All, I am very new to ASP.NET MVC and currently, I am involved in developing a new application in ASP.NET MVC 2. I am having problem in managing a long querystring parameters that comes from dBase. For example, in any non-mvc app the following URL works well: http ://example.com/test.aspx?first_name=fname&last_name=lname&email_id=email&address1=add1&address2=add2&city=city&state=state&zip_code=zip and so on. The QueryString parameter can be determined on the fly (i.e. at run-time). Now for dynamic QueryString how routing will be done? Also for a simple URL, the URL will be as follows (in ASP.NET MVC): http ://example.com/test/id/category But for above mentioned dynamic & long QueryString how the URL will look like?   Hi All, I want to set a restriction on my firewall (windows firewall on windows 2008) to only allow connections from a certain dynamic DNS. Is this possible? The reason I ask is that this would allow us to just change the IP on the dynamic DNS if our IP changes and means we won't get locked out of RDP. • Dynamic content in ExtJS Window

  TLDR I want to add some dynamic content into an Ext-JS window / popup. Currently I have tried assigning this content to a div and pulling on the innerhtml of that div like: new Ext.Window({ height: 50, width: 160, x: 0, y: 30, layout: "fit", html: document.getElementById('output').innerHTML; }).show(); Am using jquery & getjson to get the dynamic data. But that does nothing at all. Has anyone done something similar before? Can I give the html of the window an id and use it like an element?

• Problem including dynamic image in Eclipse BIRT 2.5.0 report on Windows

  I have a BIRT 2.5.0 report design with a dynamic image (URL is specified through report parameter, image formats tried - .png, .bmp). When running the report from our application on Ubuntu, everything renders OK. When doing exactly the same thing on Windows, there's following message instead of the actual image: Current report item is not supported in this report format. Same problem occurs when including image with a fixed URL - even though the image is displayed and loaded in the Report Designer, it's not rendered in report generated from our application. Again, this happens only on Windows. The only way I managed to get the image into a rendered report was through embedding it into the report design file, which is not suitable as the image has to be dynamic.

• Dynamic case statement in bash

  Hi folks, I'm trying to figure out how to create a dynamic case statement in a bash script. For example, let's say I have the output of an awk statement with the following contents red green blue In this scenario, the output can change at any time. I'm trying to then execute different logic if a value is included in this awk output. So if the data above is in $list, then I'd conceptually like to do something like: case "${my_var}" in $list) ..... something_else) ..... esac I'm trying to use this to build a dynamic custom tab completion function (see http://www.debian-administration.org/article/An_introduction_to_bash_completion_part_2 for some background). Any ideas? Thanks.
