How to Find Intersections with Ellipses in PGF/TikZ

Hello, I am trying to display a sphere in PGF/TikZ to illustrate the idea of great circles. Placing a little circle or rectangle there is not an issue. Thank you very much!

CSS Design question, I've got myself completely turned around.

Okay, I have a couple of other questions out there, but I think I'd better just ask from the beginning how you CSS experts would do this. Client's page is split into 2 rows -- header has some info, some aligned to left of page, some to right, some in the middle. This is currently done using a table. I'm fine with leaving this alone or changing it. My real question is that I need a page layout to handle the following: 2 columns - column on left is 200px, but can be "close" down to to 10px (not a slider, it's either 200 or 10 px). The column on the right needs to be as big as it needs to be -- which might be larger than the width of the page. When left column is "closed" then the right column slides over of course. Again, this right column might be 300px or it might be 4000 pixels (it's a reporting interface). Now, to add another wrinkle, SOME pages have 3 columns. The first 2 columns are each exactly 200px, and both can be "closed" down to 10 px each. But, the user may not close both columns, maybe just 1. Or none. Or both. The third column needs to act just like I described above, being able to be larger than the page width, and sliding over to take advantage of any of the "closed" left columns. Whew! I'm pretty confused as to how to go about this, as either I get it right but I can't scroll over to the right at all (overflow: hidden) and information is lost, or the right column jumps down below the left 2 columns and just looks plain stupid. My minimum browser requirements are IE8, FF3.5, Chrome and Safari (latest versions of all). Any and all pointers are gladly accepted.

Changing the direction of a Combo box dropdown in SWT

Hi, I'm building an Eclipse plugin in SWT, and I have the following problem: one of my fields is a combo box, and in some cases it may have fairly long items as selection options. My plugin runs on the right side of the screen, so when you go to use the combo-box, the right side of the combo box is cut off. So, my question is: is there any way to change the dropdown's alignment relative to the combo control? It seems to be permanently left-aligned... and I'm pretty sure you can change the direction in Swing (though the only place I've seen it done is in the Substance UI demo. The Combo Box tab has boxes with North, South East, and West flyout directions... for my application, I need something like the West flyout) Note: Setting actual text limits is a last-case-scenario option; it would be quite a bit of guesswork to set the text limit dynamically (since the widget's view can be resized). Here's a picture (sorry, I can only have one link and no images :( ... I need some more rep :p) Left side of the line: Proper width - the view is the wide enough for the combo dropdown to display all the text; you can see the scrollbars on the right side. Right side of the line: Too small - Here, the view has been resized, and the combo dropdown scrollbar (as well as some of the text) is cut off by the right side of the screen. I always have more screen space available to the left (since this is always on the right hand side of the screen), but the combo dropdown always appears to the lower right. Hopefully this is clear enough.

Code Golf: Find the possible ways on a numpad

I was bored today at school and so I tried to amuse myself using my calculator and a "game" I've invented which isn't really a game but keeps the boringness away. Also some time has passed since the last real code-golf here, so I decided to create this one. Imagine a simplified numpad like you know it from your phone (I'll leave the 0 out for this code-golf as it kinda destroys all the fun) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Now the rules of the game were always: At the end every digit must have been visited exactly once You can start at any digit you want You can always move one digit up, down, left or right. You can't move diagonally! There a quite a lot of possible ways (or not; I haven't found out yet), here some trivial examples: > > v v < < > > | The output of the golf-program should look something like the above, I'll try to explain: Symbols: Go right < Go left ^ Go up v Go down | End of the way Example solutions: (Program output can either be the numbers pressed in the right order from beginning point to end, or an (ASCII) picture like above) 147852369 569874123 523698741 So if we speak out the example above it would be: Start at 1, move right to 2, move right to 3, go down to 6, go left to 5, go left to 4, go down to 7, go right to 8 then go right to 9 and we are finished! Now there are many different ways possible: You could as well start at 5 and go around it in a circle. So the task would be: Write a program that can compute (using brute-force or whatever) the possible solutions for the numpad problem described above. (Friendly rethorical question with smiley removed because it made some people think that this is homework)

How can a code editor effectively hint at code nesting level - without using indentation?

I've written an XML text editor that provides 2 view options for the same XML text, one indented (virtually), the other left-justified. The motivation for the left-justified view is to help users 'see' the whitespace characters they're using for indentation of plain-text or XPath code without interference from indentation that is an automated side-effect of the XML context. I want to provide visual clues (in the non-editable part of the editor) for the left-justified mode that will help the user, but without getting too elaborate. I tried just using connecting lines, but that seemed too busy. The best I've come up with so far is shown in a mocked up screenshot of the editor below, but I'm seeking better/simpler alternatives (that don't require too much code). [Edit] Taking the heatmap idea (from: @jimp) I get this and 3 alternatives - labelled a, b and c: The following section describes the accepted answer as a proposal, bringing together ideas from a number of other answers and comments. As this question is now community wiki, please feel free to update this. NestView The name for this idea which provides a visual method to improve the readability of nested code without using indentation. Contour Lines The name for the differently shaded lines within the NestView The image above shows the NestView used to help visualise an XML snippet. Though XML is used for this illustration, any other code syntax that uses nesting could have been used for this illustration. An Overview: The contour lines are shaded (as in a heatmap) to convey nesting level The contour lines are angled to show when a nesting level is being either opened or closed. A contour line links the start of a nesting level to the corresponding end. The combined width of contour lines give a visual impression of nesting level, in addition to the heatmap. The width of the NestView may be manually resizable, but should not change as the code changes. Contour lines can either be compressed or truncated to keep acheive this. Blank lines are sometimes used code to break up text into more digestable chunks. Such lines could trigger special behaviour in the NestView. For example the heatmap could be reset or a background color contour line used, or both. One or more contour lines associated with the currently selected code can be highlighted. The contour line associated with the selected code level would be emphasized the most, but other contour lines could also 'light up' in addition to help highlight the containing nested group Different behaviors (such as code folding or code selection) can be associated with clicking/double-clicking on a Contour Line. Different parts of a contour line (leading, middle or trailing edge) may have different dynamic behaviors associated. Tooltips can be shown on a mouse hover event over a contour line The NestView is updated continously as the code is edited. Where nesting is not well-balanced assumptions can be made where the nesting level should end, but the associated temporary contour lines must be highlighted in some way as a warning. Drag and drop behaviors of Contour Lines can be supported. Behaviour may vary according to the part of the contour line being dragged. Features commonly found in the left margin such as line numbering and colour highlighting for errors and change state could overlay the NestView. Additional Functionality The proposal addresses a range of additional issues - many are outside the scope of the original question, but a useful side-effect. Visually linking the start and end of a nested region The contour lines connect the start and end of each nested level Highlighting the context of the currently selected line As code is selected, the associated nest-level in the NestView can be highlighted Differentiating between code regions at the same nesting level In the case of XML different hues could be used for different namespaces. Programming languages (such as c#) support named regions that could be used in a similar way. Dividing areas within a nesting area into different visual blocks Extra lines are often inserted into code to aid readability. Such empty lines could be used to reset the saturation level of the NestView's contour lines. Multi-Column Code View Code without indentation makes the use of a multi-column view more effective because word-wrap or horizontal scrolling is less likely to be required. In this view, once code has reach the bottom of one column, it flows into the next one: Usage beyond merely providing a visual aid As proposed in the overview, the NestView could provide a range of editing and selection features which would be broadly in line with what is expected from a TreeView control. The key difference is that a typical TreeView node has 2 parts: an expander and the node icon. A NestView contour line can have as many as 3 parts: an opener (sloping), a connector (vertical) and a close (sloping). On Indentation The NestView presented alongside non-indented code complements, but is unlikely to replace, the conventional indented code view. It's likely that any solutions adopting a NestView, will provide a method to switch seamlessly between indented and non-indented code views without affecting any of the code text itself - including whitespace characters. One technique for the indented view would be 'Virtual Formatting' - where a dynamic left-margin is used in lieu of tab or space characters. The same nesting-level data used to dynamically render the NestView could also used for the more conventional-looking indented view. Printing Indentation will be important for the readability of printed code. Here, the absence of tab/space characters and a dynamic left-margin means that the text can wrap at the right-margin and still maintain the integrity of the indented view. Line numbers can be used as visual markers that indicate where code is word-wrapped and also the exact position of indentation: Screen Real-Estate: Flat Vs Indented Addressing the question of whether the NestView uses up valuable screen real-estate: Contour lines work well with a width the same as the code editor's character width. A NestView width of 12 character widths can therefore accommodate 12 levels of nesting before contour lines are truncated/compressed. If an indented view uses 3 character-widths for each nesting level then space is saved until nesting reaches 4 levels of nesting, after this nesting level the flat view has a space-saving advantage that increases with each nesting level. Note: A minimum indentation of 4 character widths is often recommended for code, however XML often manages with less. Also, Virtual Formatting permits less indentation to be used because there's no risk of alignment issues A comparison of the 2 views is shown below: Based on the above, its probably fair to conclude that view style choice will be based on factors other than screen real-estate. The one exception is where screen space is at a premium, for example on a Netbook/Tablet or when multiple code windows are open. In these cases, the resizable NestView would seem to be a clear winner. Use Cases Examples of real-world examples where NestView may be a useful option: Where screen real-estate is at a premium a. On devices such as tablets, notepads and smartphones b. When showing code on websites c. When multiple code windows need to be visible on the desktop simultaneously Where consistent whitespace indentation of text within code is a priority For reviewing deeply nested code. For example where sub-languages (e.g. Linq in C# or XPath in XSLT) might cause high levels of nesting. Accessibility Resizing and color options must be provided to aid those with visual impairments, and also to suit environmental conditions and personal preferences: Compatability of edited code with other systems A solution incorporating a NestView option should ideally be capable of stripping leading tab and space characters (identified as only having a formatting role) from imported code. Then, once stripped, the code could be rendered neatly in both the left-justified and indented views without change. For many users relying on systems such as merging and diff tools that are not whitespace-aware this will be a major concern (if not a complete show-stopper). Other Works: Visualisation of Overlapping Markup Published research by Wendell Piez, dated from 2004, addresses the issue of the visualisation of overlapping markup, specifically LMNL. This includes SVG graphics with significant similarities to the NestView proposal, as such, they are acknowledged here. The visual differences are clear in the images (below), the key functional distinction is that NestView is intended only for well-nested XML or code, whereas Wendell Piez's graphics are designed to represent overlapped nesting. Jquery Flexslider - can't see navigational images (manualControl)

I've spent a lot of time looking at the post on 3/13/12 re: manual controls, but isn't getting me all the way there...probably because I don't know jquery. Sorry, newbie on board. I'm trying to get the right/left arrows to show, as well as the 1, 2, 3...at the bottom. They are there, I see the lists on Firebug, just don't know how to add them to the "hook" (?) so they appear. Floats will not align, stay staggered, can't find a solution?

What I am trying to do is build a multi column layout. The main two sections are divided 2/3 to 1/3 and inside the 2/3 column is divided 2/3 1/3 as well. My problem is that my floats will not align nicely with each other, choosing instead to stagger like stairs. I have tried declaring the widths smaller, floating them individually, including in the float sections display:block,inline, or inline-block and nothing seems to be working. I am getting really frustrated and would appreciate any help! drop down and post data to data base

This is a form which retrieves data from db and displays them in table. At the beginning of each row there will be a check box. If there are 10 rows fetched, I ii check 5 rows and insert them in to diff db but here when, I click drop down box data is getting in to db automatically,bcoz I use onchange event. Any alternative to prevent this to happen. Data should be inserted only when, I click submit button. How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes

I'm restyling a certain page where I don't have access to all the source-HTML. So I'm left over with some hard to target elements within a page I need removed. For example the page is swamped with <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div>. To get rid of them I tried this in CSS: div[style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"] { display:none !important; } I'd like to fix this using CSS, because the the HTML that needs to be removed is updated using ajax. Flash AS3 Mysterious Blinking MovieClip

This is the strangest problem I've faced in flash so far. I have no idea what's causing it. I can provide a .swf if someone wants to actually see it, but I'll describe it as best I can. I'm creating bullets for a tank object to shoot. The tank is a child of the document class. The way I am creating the bullet is: var bullet:Bullet = new Bullet(); (parent as MovieClip).addChild(bullet); The bullet itself simply moves itself in a direction using code like this.x += 5; The problem is the bullets will trace for their creation and destruction at the correct times, however the bullet is sometimes not visible until half way across the screen, sometimes not at all, and sometimes for the whole traversal. Oddly removing the timer I have on bullet creation seems to solve this. The timer is implemented as such: if(shot_timer == 0) { shoot(); // This contains the aforementioned bullet creation method shot_timer = 10; My enter frame handler for the tank object controls the timer and decrements it every frame if it is greater than zero. I can add this on aspx (it will wotk and I will get unique ids): onmouseover='<%# "javascript:ShowEditButtons(\""+ Container.FindControl("pnlEditButtons").ClientID+ "\");" %>' But I must do it in codebehind because I need to set the javascript only if server validate some things.

I made a cross browser drop down menu, which works well with IE6. However, I have problems with other browsers such as IE9, Firefox, Chrome... etc. How can I modify my HTML and CSS to get the same effect that works in IE6? PHP script keeps doing mmap/munmap

Hello, My PHP script contains a loop, which does nothing much more than echoing and dereferencing pointers (like in $tab[$othertab[$i]]- stuff). It was working great until yesterday, when this script starting being VERY slow (like 50 times slower than before). After using strace, i figured out that 90% of the time, the script does mmap/munmap. Handling keyboard and mouse input (Win API)

There is a number of ways to catch mouse or keyboard under Windows. So I tried some of them, but every of them has some advantages and drawbacks. I want to ask you: Which method do use? I've tried these: WM_KEYDOWN/WM_KEYUP - Main disadvantage is that, I can't distinguish between left and right-handed keys like ALT, CONTROL or SHIFT. GetKeyboardState - This solves problem of first method, but there is new one. When I get that the Right-ALT key is pressed, I also get that the Left-Control key is down. This behaviour happens only when using localized keyboard layout (Czech - CS). WM_INPUT (Raw Input) - This method also doesn't distinguish left and right-handed keys (if I can remember) and for mouse movement sometimes generates message with zero delta values of mouse position.

Integrating HTML into Silverlight Applications

Looking for a way to display HTML content within a Silverlight application? If you haven’t tried doing that before it can be challenging at first until you know a few tricks of the trade. Being able to display HTML is especially handy when you’re required to display RSS feeds (with embedded HTML), SQL Server Reporting Services reports, PDF files (not actually HTML – but the techniques discussed will work), or other HTML content. In this post I'll discuss three options for displaying HTML content in Silverlight applications and describe how my company is using these techniques in client applications. Displaying HTML Overlays If you need to display HTML over a Silverlight application (such as an RSS feed containing HTML data in it) you’ll need to set the Silverlight control’s windowless parameter to true. Once it’s requested the absolute position of where it should show above the Silverlight control can be set using standard CSS styles. The following ID selector named #RSSDiv handles hiding the overlay div shown above and determines where it will be display on the screen. #RSSDiv { background-color:White; position:absolute; top:100px; left:300px; width:800px; height:600px; border:1px solid black; display:none; } Now that the HTML content to display above the Silverlight control is set, how can we show it as a user clicks a HyperlinkButton or other control in the application? Fortunately, Silverlight provides an excellent HTML bridge that allows direct access to content hosted within a page. The following code shows two JavaScript functions that can be called from Siverlight to handle showing or hiding HTML overlay content. The two functions rely on jQuery (http://www.jQuery.com) to make it easy to select HTML objects and manipulate their properties: function ShowOverlay() { rssDiv.css('display', 'block'); } function HideOverlay() { rssDiv.css('display', 'none'); } Calling the ShowOverlay function is as simple as adding the following code into the Silverlight application within a button’s Click event handler: private void OverlayHyperlinkButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowOverlay"); } The result of setting the Silverlight control’s windowless parameter to true and showing the HTML overlay content is shown in the following screenshot: Thinking Outside the Box to Show HTML Content Setting the windowless parameter to true may not be a viable option for some Silverlight applications or you may simply want to go about showing HTML content a different way. The next technique I’ll show takes advantage of simple HTML, CSS and JavaScript code to handle showing HTML content while a Silverlight application is running in the browser. Keep in mind that with Silverlight’s HTML bridge feature you can always pop-up HTML content in a new browser window using code similar to the following: System.Windows.Browser.HtmlPage.Window.Navigate( new Uri("http://silverlight.net"), "_blank"); For this example I’ll demonstrate how to hide the Silverlight application while maximizing a container div containing the HTML content to show. This allows HTML content to take up the full screen area of the browser without having to set windowless to true and when done right can make the user feel like they never left the Silverlight application. The following HTML shows several div elements that are used to display HTML within the same browser window as the Silverlight application: <div id="JobPlanDiv"> <div style="vertical-align:middle"> <img alt="Close Button" align="right" src="Images/Close.png" onclick="HideJobPlanIFrame();" style="cursor:pointer;" /> </div> <div id="JobPlan_IFrame_Container" style="height:95%;width:100%;margin-top:37px;"></div> </div> The JobPlanDiv element acts as a container for two other divs that handle showing a close button and hosting an iframe that will be added dynamically at runtime. Once JobPlanDiv is shown, the Silverlight control host has its width set to a value of 0% to allow the control to stay alive while making it invisible to the user. I found that this technique works better across multiple browsers as opposed to manipulating the Silverlight control host div’s display or visibility properties. Now that you’ve seen the code to handle showing and hiding the HTML content area, let’s switch focus to the Silverlight application. As a user clicks on a link such as “View Report” the ShowJobPlanIFrame() JavaScript function needs to be called. The following code handles that task: private void ReportHyperlinkButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { ShowBrowser(_BaseUrl + "/Report.aspx"); } public void ShowBrowser(string url) { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowJobPlanIFrame", url); } Any URL can be passed into the ShowBrowser() method which handles invoking the JavaScript function. This includes standard web pages or even PDF files. We’ve used this technique frequently with our SmartPrint control (http://www.smartwebcontrols.com) which converts Silverlight screens into PDF documents and displays them. Here’s an example of the content generated: Silverlight 4’s WebBrowser Control Both techniques shown to this point work well when Silverlight is running in-browser but not so well when it’s running out-of-browser since there’s no host page that you can access using the HTML bridge. Fortunately, Silverlight 4 provides a WebBrowser control that can be used to perform the same functionality quite easily. We’re currently using it in client applications to display PDF documents, SSRS reports and standard HTML content. Using the WebBrowser control simplifies the application quite a bit since no JavaScript is required if the application only runs out-of-browser. Here’s a simple example of defining the WebBrowser control in XAML. I typically define it in MainPage.xaml when a Silverlight Navigation template is used to create the project so that I can re-use the functionality across multiple screens. <Grid x:Name="WebBrowserGrid" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Visibility="Collapsed"> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <Border Background="#484848" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Height="40"> <Image x:Name="WebBrowserImage" Width="100" Height="33" Cursor="Hand" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Source="/HTMLAndSilverlight;component/Assets/Images/Close.png" MouseLeftButtonDown="WebBrowserImage_MouseLeftButtonDown" /> </Border> <WebBrowser x:Name="JobPlanReportWebBrowser" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> Looking through the XAML you can see that a close image is defined along with the WebBrowser control. Because the URL that the WebBrowser should navigate to isn’t known at design time no value is assigned to the control’s Source property. If the XAML shown above is left “as is” you’ll find that any HTML content assigned to the WebBrowser doesn’t display properly. This is due to no height or width being set on the control. To handle this issue the following code is added into the XAML’s code-behind file to dynamically determine the height and width of the page and assign it to the WebBrowser. This is done by handling the SizeChanged event. void MainPage_SizeChanged(object sender, SizeChangedEventArgs e) { WebBrowserGrid.Height = JobPlanReportWebBrowser.Height = ActualHeight; WebBrowserGrid.Width = JobPlanReportWebBrowser.Width = ActualWidth; } When the user wants to view HTML content they click a button which executes the code shown in next: public void ShowBrowser(string url) { if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { JobPlanReportWebBrowser.NavigateToString("<html><body><iframe src='" + url + "' style='width:100%;height:97%;' /></body></html>"); WebBrowserGrid.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } else { HtmlPage.Window.Invoke("ShowJobPlanIFrame", url); } } private void WebBrowserImage_MouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { WebBrowserGrid.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } Looking through the code you’ll see that it checks to see if the Silverlight application is running out-of-browser and then either displays the WebBrowser control or runs the JavaScript function discussed earlier. Although the WebBrowser control’s Source property could be assigned the URI of the page to navigate to, by assigning HTML content using the NavigateToString() method and adding an iframe, content can be shown from any site including cross-domain sites. This is especially handy when you need to grab a page from a reporting site that’s in a different domain than the Silverlight application. Here’s an example of viewing PDF file inside of an out-of-browser application. The first image shows the application running out-of-browser before the user clicks a PDF HyperlinkButton. The second image shows the PDF being displayed. While there are certainly other techniques that can be used, the ones shown here have worked well for us in different applications and provide the ability to display HTML content in-browser or out-of-browser. Blending the Sketchflow Action

Started a new Sketchflow Prototype in Expression Blend recently and documented each of the steps. This blog entry covers some of those steps, which are the basic elements of any prototype. I will have more information regarding design, prototype creation, and the process of the initial phases for development in the future. For now, I hope you enjoy this short walk through. Also, be sure to check out my last quick entry on Sketchflow. I started off with a Sketchflow Project, just like I did in my previous entry (more specifics in that entry about how to manipulate and build out the Sketchflow Map). Once I created the project I setup the following Sketchflow Map. The CoreNavigation is a ComponentScreen setup solely for the page navigation at the top of the screen. In each of those screens I included the CoreNavigation Screen (all those little green lines in the image) as the top navigation. In order to do that, as I created each of the pages I would hover over the CoreNavigation Object in the Sketchflow Map. When the utilities drawer (the small menu that pops down under a node when you hover over it) shows click on the third little icon and drag it onto the page node you want a navigation screen on. Once I created all the screens I setup the navigation by opening up each screen and right clicking on the objects that needed to point to somewhere else in the prototype. Once I was done with the main page, my Home Navigation Page, it looked something like this in the Expression Blend Designer. I fleshed out each of the additional screens. Once I was done I wanted to try out the deployment package. The way to deploy a Sketchflow Prototype is to merely click on File –> Package SketchFlow Project and a prompt will appear. In the prompt enter what you want the package to be called. I like to see the files generated afterwards too, so I checked the box to see that. When Expression Blend is done generating everything you’ll have a directory like the one shown below, with all the needed files for deployment. Now these files can be copied or moved to any location for viewing. One can even copy them (such as via FTP) to a server location to share with others. Once they are deployed and you run the "TestPage.html" the other features of the Sketchflow Package are available. In the image below I have tagged a few sections to show the Sketchflow Player Features. To the top left is the navigation, which provides a clearly defined area of movement in a list. To the center right is the actual prototype application. I have placed lists of things and made edits. On the left hand side is the highlight feature, which is available in the Feedback section of the lower left. On the right hand list I underlined the Autochart with an orange marker, and marked out two list items with a red marker. In the lower left hand side in the Feedback section is also an area to type in your feedback. This can be useful for time based feedback, when you post this somewhere and want people to provide subsequent follow up feedback. Overall lots of great features, that enable some fairly rapid prototyping with customers. Once one is familiar with the steps and parts of this Sketchflow Prototype Capabilities it is easy to step through an application without even stopping. It really is that easy. SQL SERVER – Solution to Puzzle – Simulate LEAD() and LAG() without Using SQL Server 2012 Analytic Function

How can a code editor effectively hint at code nesting level - without using indentation?

I'm writing an XML text editor that provides 2 view options for the same XML text, one indented (virtually), the other left-justified. The motivation for the left-justified view is to help users 'see' the whitespace characters they're using for indentation of plain-text or XPath code without interference from indentation that is an automated side-effect of the XML context. I want to provide visual clues (in the non-editable part of the editor) for the left-justified mode that will help the user, but without getting too elaborate. I tried just using connecting lines, but that seemed too busy. The best I've come up with so far is shown in a mocked up screenshot of the editor below, but I'm seeking better/simpler alternatives (that don't require too much code). "Untangle"-Game AI

I am trying to program an AI for such untangle games like Untangle game. I tried the following possibilities: 1) Just set one node after the other to a random place. If every node was moved once, start over with the first node in the list. 2) First move all nodes which have the most wrong connections. If all were moved once, move the nodes which have the fewest (but not 0) wrong connections. If all were moved but there are some left, move all which are left. If none are left start over. 3) Just 2) bust starting with the nodes with the fewest connections. 4)/5) As 2) and 3) but when I didn't move nodes which have only correct connections. All of these approaches are too slow and inefficient. Can anyone suggest a solution which does not depend so much on fortune?

How to autohide Unity 2D?

In the regular Unity 3D, I used Compiz Config Manager where I could config the Unity-Plugin to autohide the left start-bar and not to show it when moving my mouse to the left. So it was perfect for using Docky. But with Unity 2D the Unity settings don't have any effect. How can I completely hide the start-panel and just have it shown when pressing the windows-key? With the following: dconf write /com/canonical/unity-2d/launcher/hide-mode 1 dconf write /com/canonical/unity-2d/launcher/use-strut false it still opens the bar when going with my mouse to the left.

Ubuntu on AMD based Sony Vaio VPCY B15AG

Last week I bought a AMD E350 (AMD Fusion platform) based Sony VAIO (VPCYB15AG) having AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics, I removed Windows that came along with and installed Ubuntu 10.10 (AMD64) using USB drive. During installation my touchpad was not working, I managed through keyboard, but after completing installation & restarting the machine still there was no touchpad support. Also there's no proper graphic card drivers. Even I tried connecting the USB mouse to it but the left key is not working and had to configure the mouse as left-hand to get the left click enabled. I tried searching for any possible solutions for these but found nothing helpful, is there any hope? What should I do to enable i) enable touch pad support ii) get higher resolution 1366x768, etc?

I'm trying to implement the code that was freely given by a very kind developer at the following link: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/142383-Code-sample-Off-Center-Projection-Code-for-VR-CAVE-or-just-for-fun Right now, all I'm trying to do is bring it in on one camera, but I have a few issues. Thus, I changed the line to read: projectionM = new PerspectiveOffCenter(left, right, bottom, top, near, far); But then the error is changed to: The type 'PerspectiveOffCenter' does not contain a constructor that takes '6' arguments. For reasons that are obvious. So, finally, I changed the line to read: projectionM = new GeneralizedPerspectiveProjection(left, right, bottom, top, near, far); And the error I get is: is a 'method' but a 'type' was expected. With this last error, I'm not sure what it is I should do / missing. Can anyone see what it is that I'm missing to fix this error?
