  • Stack usage with MMX intrinsics and Microsoft C++

    I have an inline assembler loop that cumulatively adds elements from an int32 data array with MMX instructions. In particular, it uses the fact that the MMX registers can accommodate 16 int32s to calculate 16 different cumulative sums in parallel. I would now like to convert this piece of code to MMX intrinsics but I am afraid that I will suffer a performance penalty because one cannot explicitly intruct the compiler to use the 8 MMX registers to accomulate 16 independent sums. Can anybody comment on this and maybe propose a solution on how to convert the piece of code below to use intrinsics? == inline assembler (only part within the loop) == paddd mm0, [esi+edx+8*0] ; add first & second pair of int32 elements paddd mm1, [esi+edx+8*1] ; add third & fourth pair of int32 elements ... paddd mm2, [esi+edx+8*2] paddd mm3, [esi+edx+8*3] paddd mm4, [esi+edx+8*4] paddd mm5, [esi+edx+8*5] paddd mm6, [esi+edx+8*6] paddd mm7, [esi+edx+8*7] ; add 15th & 16th pair of int32 elements esi points to the beginning of the data array edx provides the offset in the data array for the current loop iteration the data array is arranged such that the elements for the 16 independent sums are interleaved.

    Hey Guys, Long time reader never posted until now. Im having some trouble with Android, im implementing a library called JJIL its an open source imaging library. My problem is this i need to run some analysis on an image and to do so i need to have it in jjil.core.image format and once those processes are complete i need to convert the changed image from jjil.core.image to java.awt.image. I cant seem to find a method of doing this does anyone have any ideas or have any experience with this? I would be grateful of any help. Danny

    I'm trying to detect white objects in a video. The first step is to filter the image so that it leaves only white-color pixels. My first approach was using HSV color space and then checking for high level of VAL channel.     So I know that clock() measures clock cycles, and thus isn't very good for measuring time, and I know there are functions like omp_get_wtime() for getting the wall time, but it is frustrating for me that the wall time varies so much, and was wondering if there was some way to measure distinct clock cycles (only one cycle even if more than one thread executed in it).     Hi! I'm looking to extract pitches from a sound signal. Someone on IRC just explain to me how taking a double FFT achieves this. Specifically: take FFT take log of square of absolute value (can be done with lookup table) take another FFT take absolute value I am attempting this using vDSP I can't understand how I didn't come across this technique earlier. I did a lot of hunting and asking questions; several weeks worth. More to the point, I can't understand why I didn't think of it. I am attempting to achieve this with vDSP library. it looks as though it has functions to handle all of these tasks. However, I'm wondering about the accuracy of the final result. I have previously used a technique which scours the frequency bins of a single FFT for local maxima. when it encounters one, it uses a cunning technique (the change in phase since the last FFT) to more accurately place the actual peak within the bin. I am worried that this precision will be lost with this technique I'm presenting here. I guess the technique could be used after the second FFT to get the fundamental accurately. But it kind of looks like the information is lost in step 2. as this is a potentially tricky process, could someone with some experience just look over what I'm doing and check it for sanity? also, I've heard there is an alternative technique involving fitting a quadratic over neighbouring bins. Is this of comparable accuracy? if so, I would favour it, as it doesn't involve remembering bin phases. so questions: does this approach makes sense? Can it be improved? I'm a bit worried about And the log square component; there seems to be a vDSP function to do exactly that: vDSP_vdbcon however, there is no indication it precalculates a log-table -- I assume it doesn't, as the FFT function requires an explicit pre-calculation function to be called and passed into it. and this function doesn't. Is there some danger of harmonics being picked up? is there any cunning way of making vDSP pull out the maxima, biggest first? Can anyone point me towards some research or literature on this technique? the main question: is it accurate enough? Can the accuracy be improved? I have just been told by an expert that the accuracy IS INDEED not sufficient. Is this the end of the line? Pi PS I get SO annoyed (npi) when I want to create tags, but cannot. :| I have suggested to the maintainers that SO keep track of attempted tags, but I'm sure I was ignored. we need tags for vDSP, accelerate framework, cepstral analysis

  • How to insert hyperlink into access database via sql?

    I have a fairly simple MS Access Database that contains some metadata about a bunch of documents and a hyperlink field that links to the document on our network drive. However, when I use a SQL INSERT statement to populate the hyperlink field, the value I give it only becomes the display text, not the actual link. How can I make the value a functional hyperlink? I'd think that the hyperlink data type would actually create hyperlinks. I'm using Access 2002 SP3.
