  • Include models in Cakephp without going through index.php

    - by Nicklas Ansman
Hey! I'm using CakePHP to build a site which has a crawler that mines data from different sites. The problem is that I would like to be able to call the crawler from command line (since it can take hours for it to finnish) and I would like to the use models in CakePHP when saving the data. Is there a file I could just include that includes the rest for me? If I just include the index.php it dispatches the call which I don't want. Regards Nicklas

  • How do I convert text to hyperlinks in C#?

    - by EmilyM
I am very very very new to C# and ASP.NET development. What I'd like to do is a find-and-replace for certain words appearing in the body text of a web page. Every time a certain word appears in the body text, I'd like to convert that word into a hyperlink that links to another page on our site. I have no idea where to even start with this. I've found code for doing find-and-replace in C#, but I haven't found any help for just reading through a document, finding certain strings, and changing them into different strings.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 controller-url problems

    - by cc0
I am still very new to the MVC framework, but I managed to create a controller that reads from a database and writes JSON to an url; host.com/Controllername?minValue=something&maxValue=something However when I move the site to a subfolder; host.com/mvc/ it doesn't seem to be able to call the controller from there when I do it like this; host.com/mvc/Controllername?minValue=something&maxValue=something Did I forget to do something somewhere to make this url call valid from that subfolder? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

  • What Counts for A DBA: Observant

    - by drsql
When walking up to the building where I work, I can see CCTV cameras placed here and there for monitoring access to the building. We are required to wear authorization badges which could be checked at any time. Do we have enemies?  Of course! No one is 100% safe; even if your life is a fairy tale, there is always a witch with an apple waiting to snack you into a thousand years of slumber (or at least so I recollect from elementary school.) Even Little Bo Peep had to keep a wary lookout.    We nerdy types (or maybe it was just me?) generally learned on the school playground to keep an eye open for unprovoked attack from simpler, but more muscular souls, and take steps to avoid messy confrontations well in advance. After we’d apprehensively negotiated adulthood with varying degrees of success, these skills of watching for danger, and avoiding it,  translated quite well to the technical careers so many of us were destined for. And nowhere else is this talent for watching out for irrational malevolence so appropriate as in a career as a production DBA.   It isn’t always active malevolence that the DBA needs to watch out for, but the even scarier quirks of common humanity.  A large number of the issues that occur in the enterprise happen just randomly or even just one time ever in a spurious manner, like in the case where a person decided to download the entire MSDN library of software, cross join every non-indexed billion row table together, and simultaneously stream the HD feed of 5 different sporting events, making the network access slow while the corporate online sales just started. The decent DBA team, like the going, gets tough under such circumstances. They spring into action, checking all of the sources of active information, observes the issue is no longer happening now, figures that either it wasn’t the database’s fault and that the reboot of the whatever device on the network fixed the problem.  This sort of reactive support is good, and will be the initial reaction of even excellent DBAs, but it is not the end of the story if you really want to know what happened and avoid getting called again when it isn’t even your fault.   When fires start raging within the corporate software forest, the DBA’s instinct is to actively find a way to douse the flames and get back to having no one in the company have any idea who they are.  Even better for them is to find a way of killing a potential problem while the fires are small, long before they can be classified as raging. The observant DBA will have already been monitoring the server environment for months in advance.  Most troubles, such as disk space and security intrusions, can be predicted and dealt with by alerting systems, whereas other trouble can come out of the blue and requires a skill of observing ongoing conditions and noticing inexplicable changes that could signal an emerging problem.  You can’t automate the DBA, because the bankable skill of a DBA is in detecting the early signs of unexpected problems, and working out how to deal with them before anyone else notices them.    To achieve this, the DBA will check the situation as it is currently happening,  and in many cases is likely to have been the person who submitted the problem to the level 1 support person in the first place, just to let the support team know of impending issues (always well received, I tell you what!). Database and host computer settings, configurations, and even critical data might be profiled and captured for later comparisons. He’ll use Monitoring tools, built-in, commercial (Not to be too crassly commercial or anything, but there is one such tool is SQL Monitor) and lots of homebrew monitoring tools to monitor for problems and changes in the server environment.   You will know that you have it right when a support call comes in and you can look at your monitoring tools and quickly respond that “response time is well within the normal range, the query that supports the failing interface works perfectly and has actually only been called 67% as often as normal, so I am more than willing to help diagnose the problem, but it isn’t the database server’s fault and is probably a client or networking slowdown causing the interface to be used less frequently than normal.” And that is the best thing for any DBA to observe…

  • Including a Django app's url.py is resulting in a 404

  • How to detect page redirect with PHP?

    - by blabus
I'm trying to detect whether an image exists on a remote server. However, I've tried several methods and can't get any of them to work. Right now I'm trying to use this: if (!CheckImageExists("http://img2.netcarshow.com/ABT-Audi_R8_2008_1024x768_wallpaper_01.jpg")) { print_r("DOES NOT EXIST"); } else { print_r("DOES EXIST"); }; function CheckImageExists($imgUrl) { if (fopen($imgUrl, "r")) { return true; } else { return false; }; }; But it returns 'true' whether the image actually exists or not (the above image should, but change it to gibberish and it still will return 'true'). I have a feeling it could be because if the URL does not exist, it redirects to the homepage of the site. But I don't know how to detect that. Thanks for any help!

    - by ooo
i have an asp.net mvc site and here is a dynamic tooltip using qTip Here is my code: $('a.showNutritionInfo').each(function() { $(this).qtip({ content: { text: '<img src="../../images/ajax-loader1.gif" alt="" />', style: { width: 450 }, url: '/Tracker/NutritionInfo/' + $(this).attr('id'), method: 'get' } }); }); this works perfectly EXCEPT the width attribute listed above is ignored. • network error 414 when using google translate with wordpress

    - by zac
I am using a jQuery and google translate on a wordpress site. It works well unless I call a div that is repeated in the loop like in an archives page. Does anyone know how I can correct this error? Is this a serverfault question?

  • When is @uncheckedVariance needed in Scala, and why is it used in GenericTraversableTemplate?

    - by retronym
@uncheckedVariance can be used to bridge the gap between Scala's declaration site variance annotations and Java's invariant generics. scala import java.util.Comparator import java.util.Comparator scala trait Foo[T] extends Comparator[T] defined trait Foo scala trait Foo[-T] extends Comparator[T] :5: error: contravariant type T occurs in invariant position in type [-T]java.lang.Object with java.util.Comparator[T] of trait Foo trait Foo[-T] extends Comparator[T] ^ scala import annotation.unchecked._ import annotation.unchecked._ scala trait Foo[-T] extends Comparator[T @uncheckedVariance] defined trait Foo This says that java.util.Comparator is naturally contra-variant, that is the type parameter T appears in parameters and never in a return type. Which begs the question, why is it also used in the Scala collections library: trait GenericTraversableTemplate[+A, +CC[X] <: Traversable[X]] extends HasNewBuilder[A, CC[A] @uncheckedVariance] What are the valid uses for this annotation?

  • Is it possible to maintain the url while redirecting to a classic asp page from a controller?

    - by Matthias
While migrating a site from a classic asp to MVC, I'm having the problem that not all controllers are implemented yet. For those which are not implemented, I'd like to serve the classic asp page (say /product.asp?id=123) while maintaining the nice url /product/123. To accomplish this I implemented a dummy ProductController which returns a RedirectResult to the classic asp url. But that changes the url in the browsers navigation bar. Requirement has it, that the urls should always be a clean (mvc) one, eventhough the page has not yet been fully migrated. If this can't be done using a dummy controller, what would be an alternative option to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

  • What's The Best Object-Relational Mapping Tool For .NET?

    - by Icono123
I've worked on a few Java web projects and we've always used Hibernate for our data object layer. I haven't worked on a large scale ASP.NET site and I'm unsure which solution to choose. I'm tempted to try NHibernate, but I don't like the fact that they use so many third party libraries. I found this list on Wikipedia of available ORM software: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_object-relational_mapping_software#.NET What ORM have you used? Was it easy to use? Would you recommend using it again? Was it used on a small, medium, or large project? Would you write your own? Thanks.

  • jQuery - Ajax post result in html displaying in wrong position

    - by Sev
I have a site with user posted threads that get voted on (up or down), and a vote count is displayed next to each thread. The voting up and down process is being done through jQuery/Ajax, and using something like this: $.ajax({ url: 'vote.php', success: function(data) { $('.result').html(data); } }); the html of the vote count is being updated (.result being the class of the div that holds the vote count number) Also, the threads are being sorted first by vote count descending, and then alphabetically. I'm having a problem with the ajax updating the HTML vote count in real time, i have a hunch that the issue is due to the fact that the order of the threads are changing when the vote count is being updated, but I'm not certain. I know the database is being updated, and when I refresh the page, it's also being updated correctly, but I'm not seeing the real-time behavior that I expect from jQuery/Ajax. What might be the problem?

  • Find the gender from a name

    - by Ramesh
Hi guys, I recently confronted with a weird yet interesting question. The questions is as follows: Need to write a program which can give the gender as output based on the name. Example: INPUT -- John Michael Britney OUTPUT-- male male female So this is the output I expect. I tried a lot to solve, but I really was not able to crack it. I will be really thankful to this site for giving me an opportunity to share this question. Actually this is asked in a programming contest as a flyer problem, so I thought this can be programmed.

  • Whats are basic things you should kept in mind while writing functional tests?

    - by piemesons
Hello, what kind of functionality should be covered in functional test? How to prioritize what are the functionality that must be covered in functional test. I can understand it depends upon on the project, whats the functionality present the project. Lets take a example of stackoverflow. Suppose we are developing a basic working model of this. What kind of functional test must be covered in this. Just brief what the key points while writing functional tests. (taking any basic functionality from this site just to understand the reference) Still its platform independent question.I am using ruby on rails developer, but keeping ruby on rails as mind will be preferable.

  • How does 37signals job preview functionality work?

    - by slythic
Hi all, I'm interested in getting a preview functionality working similar to how the 37signals job site does: http://jobs.37signals.com. Below are some screen shots of how it works. Step 1. Create your ad http://cl.ly/dfc4761b015c7f43c8ab (URL /jobs/new) Step 2. Preview your ad http://cl.ly/9c4b4041cfea83d8569e (URL /jobs/new/preview) Step 3. Publish your ad http://cl.ly/a58284d90fd380d2c26b (URL /listings/new/purchase?token=5198) So assuming you have Post model where Step 1 usually takes place in the new/create view/actions, how should one continue to Step 2 Preview and then after previewing, proceeding to the Step 3 publishing the post/ad? Do they actually save the ad/post in the database before continuing to Step 2 (Preview) but set a flag (like a boolean field called preview set to true)? It looks like they set a token paramater but I'm not sure what it's used for) I'm interested in this because it seems to go against the CRUD/REST and I thought it would be good to know how it worked. Thanks!

  • How to redirect a user to a new webpage after a Javascript Alert/confrim box

    - by David Maldonado
I have a client who wishes to have an alert/confirm box pop up when a user leaves the site, then based on what they choose, they will either stay on the page or go to a new page (would love if it would work in all browsers). I have been twiddling all day and have got this piece of code, but doesn't work too well. <script> window.onbeforeonload = function exitLeave(){var answer = confirm("You have not filled out your questionnaire yet") if (answer){ window.location = "http://www.google.com/"; } else{ alert("Cancel it !") } } </script> Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Continuous Deployment with an ASP.NET website?

    - by Amber Shah
I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/). If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?

    - by Hamid
I have the following .htaccess: #Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /phptest on my local testing server (http://localhost) I have to uncomment the first line for the site to work. Otherwise I get Error 403 (Forbidden). Once I upload the page to my webserver (FastHosts) I get Error 500 (Internal Server Error) if the first line is not commented out. If I comment it out, my page loads but it cannot find the page content which is mydomain.com/phptest/Home I get a 404. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

  • Running sites on "localhost" is extremeley slow.

    - by seanxe
Hello all, Having real trouble using my local host to test sites. It runs extremely slow! Sometimes up to a minute to load a page. I'm using firefox and the sites i'm testing run fine on other developers in my office local machines/ on the production server. I've gone through the normal things :- Disabled IPv6 Not running in debug mood Put the site in the highest app pool (High Isolated) on IIS 6. Taking of firewalls etc. The problem only seems to occur when hitting pages which contain some form of .net code in the code-behind. Appreciate that this a little bit of a vague topic / stab in the dark but would appreciate any sort of advice - it's horrible waiting a minute each refresh to try out a change! Cheers, Sean.
