• KVM in Ubuntu cannot trap Windows7 keyboard shortcut

  I am running Windows7 as a guest OS inside KVM running in Ubuntu Desktop 10.04 Everytime I do Alt+Tab within Windows7, the shortcut is caught by Ubuntu. How can I 'trap' the shortcut to stay within the guest OS? I tried running the guest OS fullscreen but Alt+Tab still escapes. Running guest OS fullscreen with display scaled up seems to trap Alt+Tab within KVM, but somehow guest OS is running very very slowly in that mode. Any idea?

• Cannot log into Windows XP Embedded after changing computer name

  Hi everyone, I purchased a tablet pc running Windows XP Embedded. The tablet was used in a medical clinic on a domain. For illustrative purposes, say the computer name was "COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME". There was an administrator account, so I changed the password on account "COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME\Administrator" to a blank password. I logged out and logged in successfully with the blank administrator password when the log-in dialog said "Log in to COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME (this computer)". Next I renamed the computer from COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME to SIMPLECOMPUTERNAME, which required a reboot. I did so, and I can't log in anymore. The log in screen still just says "Log in to COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME (this computer)", but the account "COMPLEXCOMPUTERNAME\Administrator" no longer works. I suspect that this is because the computer has been renamed to SIMPLECOMPUTERNAME and it can no longer find the account. The "Log in to" dropdown can't be typed in, so I can't change the computer name Windows is trying to log into. I fear that I'm stuck. Is there a way I can get Windows to log into the computer name that I chose? Thanks! -Mike

• Cannot properly read files on the local server

  I'm running a RedHat 6.2 Amazon EC2 instance using stock Apache and IUS PHP53u+MySQL (+mbstring, +mysqli, +mcrypt), and phpMyAdmin from git. All configuration is near-vanilla, assuming the described installation procedure. I've been trying to import SQL files into the database using phpMyAdmin to read them from a directory on my server. phpMyAdmin lists the files fine in the drop down, but returns a "File could not be read" error when actually trying to import. Furthermore, when trying to execute file_get_contents(); on the file, it also returns a "failed to open stream: Permission denied" error. In fact, when my brother was attempting to import the SQL files using MySQL "SOURCE" as an authenticated MySQL user with ALL PRIVILEGES, he was getting an error reading the file. It seems that we are unable to read/import these files with ANY method other than root under SSH (although I can't say I've tried every possible method). I have never had this issue under regular CentOS (5, 6, 6.2) installations with the same LAMP stack configuration. Some things I've tried after searching Google and StackExchange: CHMOD 0777 both directory and files, CHOWN root, apache (only two users I can think of that PHP would use), Importing SQL files with total size under both upload_max_filesize and post_max_size, PHP open_basedir commented out, or = "/var/www" (my sites are using Apache VirtualHosts within that directory, and all the SQL files are deep within that directory), PHP safe mode is OFF (it was never ON) At the moment I have solved this issue with the smaller files by using the FILE UPLOAD method directly to phpMyAdmin, but this will not be suitable for uploading my 200+ MiB SQL files as I don't have a stable Internet connection. Any light you could shed on this situation would be greatly appreciated. I'm fair with Linux, and for the things that do stump me, Google usually has an answer. Not this time, though!

• Launching a process on startup in ubuntu fails to start other processes

  On Ubuntu Server I've written a c++ program which launches another process which is in python. The c++ process runs fine on startup but the python process never launches. It gets created and when I run "top" I can see that both process's are running but next to the one that says python it reads python defunct. I've created the startup script in /etc/init.d and updated rc.d. Is there something else I have to do in order for it to see the python application?

  I have the standalone Hyper-V Server 2012 running and I'm trying to create the first VM on it but I'm getting the following error: From my research, this error comes up with something related to the Intel IPMI driver but I have an Asus motherboard so I didn't think it was the problem. However, I ran the ResetAccess.exe fix anyways and to no surprise it said something like "This version of Windows does not require this fix". Thank you

• Cannot access SWITCH thru VPN

  I've VPN connection set up that i connect to company with. I can connect to all devices (other switches, routers, servers from same subnet with same settings just diffrent ip) but I can't connect to NetGear Router GS748Tv3. Settings on switch: IP address 192.168.1.8 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Default gateway 192.168.1.1 Management VLAN ID: 0 (1 - 4094 or 0) (0 means all VLANs) Switch has 2 VLAN's configured 1 and 2. I can access this switch thru VPN if i log in to server and from server to switch but this is a little bit slower then normal way. Anything I'm missing?

But the program gets an unhandled exception error when the computer where its running does not have a wampserver. The only thing that is installed in it is the mysql connector net. How do I make it work. I just want the two programs to access the same mysql database. I already opened port 20 by configuring firewall. Both in TCP and UDP. What do I do? Do I have to tweak the codes? Anyone in here who have tried this before?

• Server 2008 R2 - Cannot add HP UPD PCL 6 - Failed with error 0x000000002

  I am having a problem with adding a print driver to one of our 2008 R2 RDS servers. On all other RDS servers in the farm there is no problem. The print server is 2008 R2. The HP Universal Print Driver PCL 6 is installed on the print server. When trying to add a printer with the driver on the failing RDS server i just get the error "Cannnot connect to the printer. Failed with errorcode 0x00000002" I have tried to add the driver to the RDS server localy but it fails with the same error. The driver has been installed before and is currently visible in the printmanagement.msc. When trying to remove the print driver i am unable to do it because it's "Currently in use" What to do? Have tried everyting - i think :-) Thanks. /Rasmus

• Cannot copy files from external USB HDD to computer

  Hello I have a HDD disk connected with a USB converter to my computer. It consists of two partitions, the first one is mounted automatically and I can grab all the files from it, but the second one I have to mount manually as a root in the command line, if I try to open it with nautilus it gives an error. The drive where the problem is is drive sdb1, sdb2 has the same settings but works fine. I am using Debian Wheezy. This is the fstab: /dev/sdb1 /media/usb0 auto defaults,gid=disk,umask=0777 0 0 /dev/sdb2 /media/usb1 auto defaults,gid=disk,umask=0777 0 0 And when I try to copy the files with this command (as root) cp -vr /media/usb0/* /home/user/Videos/ I get these types of errors: cp: reading `/media/usb0/.lang/file.ext': Permission denied cp: failed to extend `/home/user/Videos/.lang/file.ext': Permission denied How can I at least copy the files to my main HDD? I don't need to adjust them I only need to copy them!

  I have tried disabling firing wall and checked sqlbrowser is started but for some reason I cannnot connect to my datbase... called server_name\sqlexpress.. I have a virtual machine and a full scale MS SQL Server 2008 R2 running on it... and I have several other vm running sqlexpress. they run fine and I can connect to them using sqlexpress... but when i try to access from sqlserver... • Shared mailbox - users cannot create or view subfolders

  I've setup a shared mailbox on our Exchange 2010/SBS2011 server. I've added some users as Full permission-users on this mailbox, and when they open Outlook/login to OWA the mailbox is automatically opened. Great stuff. However, only the Inbox folder is visible, and the alternative to create a folder is grayed out. If they open the mailbox explicitly (for instance in OWA by clicking open other user's mailbox) they can see other folders, as well as create new ones. What configuration is needed to be able to view and create subfolders directly?

  Skype and Spotify remain active after I close them. When I try to close them via Task Manager Details End Task, I get the following error: The operation could not be completed. Access is denied. So I have to reboot to get rid of these programs or to log in to Skype again. Also, running a CMD as administrator and executing taskkill /f /im skype.exe results in an Access is denied error. What is going on? (this is Windows 8 RTM x64) update I have to kill skype.exe because it crashed and when I restart skype, I get the following error: It says: Could not open Skype, you are already signed in on this computer. update 2 The process is owned by my own username.

  My jabber-server fails to connect to gmail.com giving the error: outgoing s2s stream myserver.com.ua-bot.talk.google.com closed: undefined-condition (myserver.com.ua is a Google Apps Domain with Talk service enabled.) I am using the Prosody XMPP server. It works just fine with other jabber-servers I tested so far (e.g. jabber.ru). • Cannot schedule task to run under domain user account other than current user

  On our Win 2008 machines I can't schedule tasks for domain users because the domain name does not resolve to network name but the AD dc name. The "network name" looks like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLM and the "dc" / "name" would look like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLMN. When selecting the domain user account the account qualifier will look like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLMN\task.user. This results in an "invalid account" error. When however keeping the currently logged in user it will display ABCDEFGE-HIJKLM\current.user. Does this behaviour result from the presumable "illegal" domain name? Is there a workaround for this? update I could of course log in as the desired domain account and create the task but since this account is a account used for running services I want to avoid creating a user profile on the machine.

  I've got an ASUS G73JH, and whenever I suspend it or hibernate it, it will not wake up. The screen stays backlight but is black. The fan remains running, however the HDD does not, not disk activity is noticeable (audibly (It's not a SSD)). I can't: Awaken it with the keyboard Awaken it with the mouse Soft power-off by pressing the power button Change virtual screens by pressing Ctrl-Alt-# Restart X by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace I have to hold down the power button and shut it down that way, and this seems a little unreasonable. Is there a place I could look for more detail as to what's causing this? Is there a known quick-fix to this issue? Nothing is logged as happening when the system is in "suspend" mode. • Cannot connect to network

  I have a problem: I am on Debian. I configured my nic with a static ip (192.168.1.56). When I try to connect to a network, initially with ifconfig eth2 I get (correctly): eth2 inet addr:192.168.1.56 .... inet6 addr: fe80:221:ff:fe96:4598/64 but after a few seconds the 192.168.1.56 disappears and after some other seconds disappears the inet6 address too. When I press in the nm-applet it requires me the password but in the meantime it try to connect. At uni, the connection is a DHCP one. It works for the first few seconds but after it doesn't.   Outlook has the ability to show week numbers down the side of the calendar in monthly view, and on the mini-calendar: In options, you can set the first week of the year, but only to the following three options: This is all very nice, but at work our "year" starts on a different date to match up with accounting periods - it's currently week 37 rather than 45! I'd like Outlook to be able to tell me which week it is at work, so is there any way I can set a custom date to be the first week of the year?

• Ruby on Rails cannot find Initializer?

  Hello, I am trying to deploy an app to a fresh Ubuntu 10 installation using Passenger 2.2.15, Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.8.7, and Apache 2.2.14. However, even with a default rails app (sudo rails defaultapp), I am receiving the following error: "no such file to load -- initializer". I'm not sure which files you might need copies of in order to diagnose this problem, so I'll copy a few here and hope that it will help. • cannot install matplotlib, freetype2 headers are ignored

  I want to install matplotlib via pip. There is a problem with freetype2.h REQUIRED DEPENDENCIES numpy: 1.6.2 freetype2: found, but unknown version (no pkg-config) * WARNING: Could not find 'freetype2' headers in any * of '.', './freetype2'. Somebody had a similar problem ( How to install matplotlib on OS X?), and it was suggested to install pkg-config first. I did that with macports, but I still get the same warning. I used find to look for the headers, and they are definitely present in: /opt/X11/include/ft2build.h /usr/X11/include/ft2build.h How can I use those files to install matplotlib?

• XP User account cannot write to USB

  Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.
