• ASP.NET MVC: run code after view has rendered (close db transaction)

  Hi, I am using ASP.NET MVC2 with NHibernate, but am facing an issue. All calls to the database via NHibernate should be inside a transaction, however code inside the view kicks off database calls in some instances. Thus there is a need to be able to commit the transaction after the view has rendered. For example displaying a list of users and their user roles you might show the user role using this code: <%: Model.UserRole.Name % This will cause a hit on the database as the UserRole is loaded using a NHibernate proxy. You can fetch the UserRole eagerly which circumvents the issue in this case, but there are cases where it is much faster to use lazy loading. Anyway, is there a way to run code after a view has rendered?

• Excel VBA ComboBox2 doesn't get the right content

  Hi, I'm having a problem with the content of a combobox. On my userform, there are 3 comboboxes. Depending on the chosen item from combobox1, combobox2 should display either set 1 or set 2. The same will be happening with the content of combobox 3, which depends upon the combination of chosen items from combobox 1 and 2. However, I'm running into problems with combobox 2, which is always populated by set 2, even if I select the item in combobox 1 that should generate set 1 in the second combobox.   Hi, I have got an app I'm going to write in ASP.NET MVC and I want to create a DatabaseFactory object something like this:- public class DatabaseFactory { private string dbConn get { return <gets from config file>; } public IDatabaseTableObject GetDatabaseTable() { IDatabaseTableObject databaseTableObject = new SQLDatabaseObject(dbConn); return databaseTableObject; } } and this works fine, but I obviously have to instantiate the DatabaseFactory in every controller that needs it. If I made this static, so I could, in theory just call DatabaseFactory.GetDatabaseTable() it would cause a memory leak, wouldn't it?

  I'm running a unit test using the Django framework and get this error. Running the actual code does not have this problem, running the unit tests creates a test database on the fly so I suspect the issue lies there. The code that throws the error looks like this member = Member.objects.get(email=email_address) and the model looks like class Member(models.Model): member_id = models.IntegerField(primary_key=True) created_on = models.DateTimeField(editable=False, default=datetime.datetime.utcnow()) flags = models.IntegerField(default=0) email = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) phone = models.CharField(max_length=150, blank=True) country_iso = models.CharField(max_length=6, blank=True) location_id = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) facebook_uid = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) utc_offset = models.IntegerField(null=True, blank=True) tokens = models.CharField(max_length=3000, blank=True) class Meta: db_table = u'member' there's nothing too odd there i can see. the user running the tests has the same permissions to the database server as the user that runs the website where else can I look to see what's going wrong, why is this table not being created?

  Hi folks, I need to do a mysqldump of a database on a remote server, but the server does not have mysqldump installed. I would like to use the mysqldump on my machine to connect to the remote database and do the dump on my machine. I have tried to create an ssh tunnel and then do the dump, but this does not seem to work. I tried: ssh -f -L3310:remote.server:3306 [email protected] -N The tunnel is created with success. If I do telnet localhost 3310 I get some blurb which shows the correct server mysql version. However, doing the following seems to try to connect locally mysqldump -P 3310 -h localhost -u mysql_user -p database_name table_name Can someone assist me? Thanks, Mauritz

• Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

  I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

• Indexing large DB's with Lucene/PHP

  Afternoon chaps, Trying to index a 1.7million row table with the Zend port of Lucene. On small tests of a few thousand rows its worked perfectly, but as soon as I try and up the rows to a few tens of thousands, it times out. Obviously, I could increase the time php allows the script to run, but seeing as 360 seconds gets me ~10,000 rows, I'd hate to think how many seconds it'd take to do 1.7million. I've also tried making the script run a few thousand, refresh, and then run the next few thousand, but doing this clears the index each time. Any ideas guys? Thanks :)

  I am using mysql 5.1 and mysql gems version is 2.73 This is giving the following error message when I try to run it from a limited account in my XP. If try it using the admin account, it works fine. I think this is wierd because it cannot be the problem of mysql gem. (in F:/Temp/wassup) !!! The bundled mysql.rb driver has been removed from Rails 2.2. Please install the mysql gem and try again: gem install mysql. rake aborted! 5: Access is denied. - C:/Program Files/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mysql-2.7. 3-x86-mswin32/ext/mysql.so (See full trace by running task with --trace) I need to work from the limited account.   I'm currently doing integration testing on a live database and I have the following sql statement: var date = DateTime.Parse("01-01-2010 20:30:00"); var result = datacontext.Repository<IObject>().Where(r => r.DateTime > date).First(); Assert.IsFalse(result.Finished); I need to test if the results retrieved from the statement, where the given date is less then the date of the object, have Finished set to False. I do not know how many results I get back and currently I'm getting the first object of the list and check if that object has Finished set to false. I know testing only the first item of the list is not valid testing, as a solution for that I could iterate through the list and check all items on Finished, but putting logic in a Test is kinda going against the concept of writing 'good' tests. So my question is: Does anyone have a good solution of how to properly test the results of this list?

  We have an ASP.NET application that uses SQL statements, where table names are unqualified. When compiled, it works fine, but when uncompiled, it complains and errors out, saying these tables dont' exist. (Qualified name looks like Select * from MyDatabase.mySchema.MyTable ; Unqualified like Select * from MyTable) If you try these queries on the database, by yourself, it will take only the qualified names. What's going on? I thought Compiled vs Uncompiled apps should perform the same way codewise.

• Greasemonkey script not executed when unusual content loading is being used

  I'm trying to write a Greasemonkey script for Facebook and having some trouble with the funky page/content loading that they do (I don't quite understand this - a lot of the links are actually just changing the GET, but I think they do some kind of server redirect to make the URL look the same to the browser too?). Essentially the only test required is putting a GM_log() on its own in the script. If you click around Facebook, even with facebook.com/* as the pattern, it is often not executed. Is there anything I can do, or is the idea of a "page load" fixed in Greasemonkey, and FB is "tricking" it into not running by using a single URL? • Extract data from PostgreSQL DB without using pg_dump

  There is a PostgreSQL database on which I only have limited access (e.g, I can't use pg_dump). I am trying to create a local "mirror" by exporting certain tables from the database. I do not have the permissions needed to just dump a table as SQL from within psql. Right now, I just have a Python script that iterates through my table_names, selects all fields and then exports them as a CSV: for table_name, file_name in zip(table_names, file_names): cmd = """echo "\\\copy (select * from %s)" to stdout WITH CSV HEADER | psql -d remote_db | gzip > ./%s/%s.gz"""%(table_name,dir_name,file_name) os.system(cmd) I would like to not use CSV if possible, as I lose the field types and the encoding can get messed up. First best would probably be some way of getting the generating SQL code for the table using \copy. Next best would be XML, ideally with some way of preserving the field types. If that doesn't work, I think the final option might be two queries---one to get the field data types, the other to get the actual data. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

• Which async call use for DB connection and still responsive GUI?--

  Hi, My application connects to MSSQL but sometimes it takes a while and the GUI is getting frozen. I would like to do the connection on the other thread, I guess BeginInvoke would be the best way (I know about background worker but I would like to learn this). I have studied MSDN page but I did not understand what is the best way to use? They also say that you can use only callback when the thread that called the async.method does not need to know the results...I dont understand it as I believe I can set some variable in the other thread to "pass" the result well. I would just need the GUI to be not frozen while the connection is being established. Thank you for your advice.

  Hello Everybody. I have a Job Table which has two interesting columns: Creation Date and Importance (high - 3, medium 2, low - 1). Job's priority calculated like this: Priority = Importance * (time passed since creation). The problem is, Every time I would like to pick 200 jobs with highest priority, I dont want to resort the table. Is there a way to keep rows sorted? I was also thinking about having three tables one for High, Medium and Low and then sort those by Creation Date. Thanks

• Spring security - same page to deliver different content based on user role

  Hello, i tried to search for any previous post related to my issue but couldnt find any. I have a scenario where in page handles 3 different scenarios and one of them not working. This page returns different content depending on if the user is authenticated or anonymous. localhost:8080/myApp/muUrl?test=authenticatedContent - used for Scenario 1 & 2 localhost:8080/myApp/muUrl?test=anonymousContent - used for Scenario 3 Scenario: 1) Authenticated user accesing the page url - the user gets displayed correct information. Works fine 2) Anonymous user accesing page URL with parameters that requires authentication - If anonymous, there is second level of check on the content they are accessing. for example, based on the GET parameters, there is custom logic to determine if the user has to be authenticated. In which case the page gets redirected to login page (WORKS fine). 3) Anonymous user accessing page URL with parameters that doesnt need authentication - in this case i get the SAvedRequest and redirect to the URL which is taking me to an infinite loop. Am i missing something very obvious or is there a way in AuthenticationProcessFilterEntryPoint to say "DON'T redirect to LOGIN page but process it" ? thanks.

  Whats a better way to store textual data, such as comments, user profile fields that require them to type something in, etc? Store the escaped data right away (using htmlspecialchars in php for example), or put it thru the same function before its echoed out?
