  • compare two characters based on subset

    - by schultem
I have a simple dataframe with two columns: df <- data.frame(x = c(1,1,2,2,3), y = c(rep(1:2,2),1), target = c('a','a','a','b','a')) I would like to compare the strings in the target column (find out whether they are equal or not, i.e., TRUE or FALSE) within every level of x (same number for x). First I would like to compare lines 1 and 2, then 3 and 4 ... My problem is that I am missing some comparisons, for example, line 5 has only one case instead of two - so it should turn out to be FALSE. Variable y indicates the first and second case within x. I played around with ddply doing something like: ddply(df, .(x), summarise, ifelse(as.character(df[df$y == '1',]$target), as.character(df[df$y == '2',]$target),0,1)) which is ugly ... and does not work ... Any insights how I could achieve this comparison? Thanks

  • SEO on a login based website

    - by Paul
Ok so say I have a website that the majority of content is behind a closed door, login screen for paying customers only. How can I let google know what is there so people can find the site through a search engine. What programming techniques could I use to give more content to the google bot. I will have some overview and demonstration screens to tempt the users but will these five to ten pages of content be enough for the search engines. The key work is quite a highly sort one and there is quite alot of competition. And before anyone asks the site is not a subscription porn site (Sadly)

  • Secure Menu Items Based on User

    - by Mike Wills
On this winform application I am writing, I want to secure one menu item from most users. It runs a month-end and cannot be easily backed out if accidentally run. The menu option opens up a window to prompt the user for some information before processing. I don't care where exactly I do the check, but I want to be sure only certain users can run this function. A Google search (on my question title above) didn't turn up anything obvious. Can anyone point me in a direction to pick up who is signed into Windows and how to check if they are authorized?

  • Java Sorting "queue" list based on DateTime and Z Position (part of school project)

    - by Kuchinawa
    For a school project i have a list of 50k containers that arrive on a boat. These containers need to be sorted in a list in such a way that the earliest departure DateTimes are at the top and the containers above those above them. This list then gets used for a crane that picks them up in order. I started out with 2 Collection.sort() methods: 1st one to get them in the right XYZ order Collections.sort(containers, new Comparator<ContainerData>() { @Override public int compare(ContainerData contData1, ContainerData contData2) { return positionSort(contData1.getLocation(),contData2.getLocation()); } }); Then another one to reorder the dates while keeping the position in mind: Collections.sort(containers, new Comparator<ContainerData>() { @Override public int compare(ContainerData contData1, ContainerData contData2) { int c = contData1.getLeaveDateTimeFrom().compareTo(contData2.getLeaveDateTimeFrom()); int p = positionSort2(contData1.getLocation(), contData2.getLocation()); if(p != 0) c = p; return c; } }); But i never got this method to work.. What i got working now is rather quick and dirty and takes a long time to process (50seconds for all 50k): First a sort on DateTime: Collections.sort(containers, new Comparator<ContainerData>() { @Override public int compare(ContainerData contData1, ContainerData contData2) { return contData1.getLeaveDateTimeFrom().compareTo(contData2.getLeaveDateTimeFrom()); } }); Then a correction function that bumps top containers up: containers = stackCorrection(containers); private static List<ContainerData> stackCorrection(List<ContainerData> sortedContainerList) { for(int i = 0; i < sortedContainerList.size(); i++) { ContainerData current = sortedContainerList.get(i); // 5 = Max Stack (0 index) if(current.getLocation().getZ() < 5) { //Loop through possible containers above current for(int j = 5; j > current.getLocation().getZ(); --j) { //Search for container above for(int k = i + 1; k < sortedContainerList.size(); ++k) if(sortedContainerList.get(k).getLocation().getX() == current.getLocation().getX()) { if(sortedContainerList.get(k).getLocation().getY() == current.getLocation().getY()) { if(sortedContainerList.get(k).getLocation().getZ() == j) { //Found -> move container above current sortedContainerList.add(i, sortedContainerList.remove(k)); k = sortedContainerList.size(); i++; } } } } } } return sortedContainerList; } I would like to implement this in a better/faster way. So any hints are appreciated. :)

  • Selecting records in SQL that have the minimum value for that record based on another field

    - by Ryan
I have a set of data, and while the number of fields and tables it joins with is quite complex, I believe I can distill my problem down using the required fields/tables here for illustration regarding this particular problem. I have three tables: ClientData, Sources, Prices Here is what my current query looks like before selecting the minimum value: select c.RecordID, c.Description, s.Source, p.Price, p.Type, p.Weight from ClientData c inner join Sources s ON c.RecordID = s.RecordID inner join Prices p ON s.SourceID = p.SourceID This produces the following result: RecordID Description Source Price Type Weight ============================================================= 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 104.5 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 103 Bid 2 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 106 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 100 Unknwn 0 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 80 Bid 2 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 82 Mid 3 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 2 81 Ask 4 What I am trying to do is display prices that belong to the same record which have the minimum non-zero weight for that record (so the weight must be greater than 0, but it has to be the minimum from amongst the remaining weights). So in the above example, for record 001002003 I would want to show the close prices from Vendor 1 and Vendor 2 because they both have a weight of 1 (the minimum weight for that record). But for 111222333 I would want to show just the bid price from Vendor 3 because its weight of 2 is the minimum, non-zero for that record. The result that I'm after would like like: RecordID Description Source Price Type Weight ============================================================= 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 1 104.5 Close 1 001002003 ABC Common Stock Vendor 2 106 Close 1 111222333 DEF Preferred Stk Vendor 3 80 Bid 2 Any ideas on how to achieve this? EDIT: This is for SQL Compact Edition.

  • Performing a MYSQL query based off of $_GET results

    - by Michael N
When a user clicks an item on my items page, it takes them to blank page template using $_GET to pass the item brand and model through. I'd like to perform another MYSQL query when that user clicks through to populate the blank page with the product details from my database. I'd like to retrieve the single row using the model number (unique ID) to populate the page with the information. I've tried a couple of things but am having a little difficulty. On my blank item page, I have $brand = $_GET['Brand']; $modelnumber = $_GET['ModelNumber']; $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM items WHERE `Model Number` = '$modelnumber'"); $results = mysql_fetch_row($query); echo $results; I think having ''s around Model Number is causing troubles, but without them, I get a Warning: mysql_fetch_row() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given error. My database columns looks like Brand | Model Number | Price | Description | Image A few other things I have tried include $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM item WHERE Model Number = $_GET['ModelNumber']"); Which gave me a syntax error. I've also tried concatenating the $_GET which gives me a mysql_fetch_row() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given error Which leads me to believe that I'm also going about displaying the results incorrectly. I'm not sure if I need to put it in a where loop like I have with my previous page which displays all items in the database because this is just displaying one.

  • How to return result set based on other rows

    - by understack
I've 2 tables - packages and items. Items table contains all items belonging to the packages along with location information. Like this: Packages table id, name, type(enum{general, special}) 1, name1, general 2, name2, special Items table id, package_id, location 1, 1, America 2, 1, Africa 3, 1, Europe 4, 2, Europe Question: I want to find all 'special' packages belonging to a location and if no special package is found then it should return 'general' packages belonging to same location. So, for 'Europe' : package 2 should be returned since it is special package (Though package 1 also belongs to Europe but not required since its a general package) for 'America' : package 1 should be returned since there are no special packages

  • Create xml file based on xPath from Excel with VBA

    - by user1626236
I've found some items that seem to dance around what I'm looking to do. I'm not a full-fledged programmer, but have been creating my own macros in Excel. I'm trying to create one now that will help me create the structure of an XML file. I want to go down the list of XPaths, and for each one create any parents in the path as needed as well as the child and its value. I'll be adding another aspect to filter it to the fields I want, but the part I'm struggling with is the logic to check if each parent node exists, create it if needed, then add the child and its value. Bonus would be if the output file were formatted with each node on a new line, and more so if it child nodes were indented from parent, but just creating it is my primary concern. Any help would be much appreciated, this has to potential to save me a lot of time.

I'm coding a 'Connect to Meeting' page where i would like the link that allows attendees to join our GoToMeeting event to 'become active' 15 minutes prior to the start time. So the page users visit to see the connection info (meetingID, password) includes the start time of the meeting. I need a button ('Connect To Meeting') to change from inactive to Active when [Now() < (StartTime()-15minutes)].

  • How to clear a textbox based on a checkbox using Javascript

    - by LoftyWofty
I am trying to code in javascript (to avoid validation triggers at the server) to clear a text box if the checkbox associated with it is unchecked. I have this code ... <input type="checkbox" id="chkOTHER" onclick="document.getElementById('txtOtherFlag').value='';" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtOtherFlag" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" CausesValidation="True" ValidationGroup="ValidationGroup1"></asp:TextBox> The problem is the Javascript inside the checkbox is not triggering to remove the value in the text box. Even if this worked, it's incorrect as it would blank out the text box every time the checkbox is triggered whether it is checked or not. I need to resolve this in the client side only. Thank you

  • Assigning XY positions to points based on a "weight" between them

    - by sanity
I have a bunch of points in a graph, and for every pair of these points I have "weight" value indicating what their proximity should be, between -1 and 1. I want to choose XY coordinates for these points such that those that have a proximity of 1 are in the same position, and those with a proximity of -1 are distant from each-other. All points must reside within a bounded area. What algorithms should I investigate to achieve this?
