  • Why does this C program compile?

    I've just come across someone's C code that I'm confused as to why it is compiling. There are two points I don't understand. First, the function prototype has no parameters compared to the actual function definition. Secondly, the parameter in the function definition doesn't have an type. #include <stdio.h> int func(); int func(param) { return param; } int main() { int bla = func(10); printf("%d",bla); } Could someone please explain to me why this works? I've tested it in a couple of compilers and it works fine.

  • Nested Lambdas in wxHaskell Library

    I've been trying to figure out how I can make staticText elements resize to fit their contents with wxHaskell. From what I can tell, this is the default behavior in wxWidgets, but the wxHaskell wrapper specifically disables this behavior. However, the library code that creates new elements has me very confused. Can anyone provide an explanation for what this code does? staticText :: Window a -> [Prop (StaticText ())] -> IO (StaticText ()) staticText parent props = feed2 props 0 $ initialWindow $ \id rect -> initialText $ \txt -> \props flags -> do t <- staticTextCreate parent id txt rect flags {- (wxALIGN_LEFT + wxST_NO_AUTORESIZE) -} set t props return t I know that feed2 x y f = f x y, and that the type signature of initialWindow is initialWindow :: (Id -> Rect -> [Prop (Window w)] -> Style -> a) -> [Prop (Window w)] -> Style -> a and the signature of initialText is initialText :: Textual w => (String -> [Prop w] -> a) -> [Prop w] -> a but I just can't wrap my head around all the lambdas.

  • AS3: Performance question calling an event function with null param

    Lately I needed to call a listener function without an actual listener like so: foo(null); private function foo(event:Event):void { //do something } So I was wondering if there is a significant difference regarding performance between this and using the following, in which I can prevent the null in calling the function without the listener, but am still able to call it with a listener as well: foo(); private function foo(event:Event = null):void { } I am not sure wether it is just a question of style, or actually bad practice and I should write two similar functions, one with and one without the event param (which seems cumbersome to me).   • F# - Function with no arguments?

    When thinking in a functional mindset, given that functions are supposed to be pure, one can conclude any function with no arguments is basically just a value. However, reallity gets in the way, and with different inputs, I might not need a certain function, and if that function is computationally expensive, I'd like to not evaluate it if it's not needed. I found a workaround, using let func _ = ... and calling it with func 1 or whatever, but that feels very non-idiomatic and confusing to the reader. This boils down to one question: In F#, Is there a proper way to declare a function with zero arguments, without having it evaluated on declaration?

    Hello, Can I pass some Javascript to a function and then execute that Javascript from within the function, e.g. test("a = 1; b = 2; test2(a,b);"); function test(js) { // execute dynamically generated JS here. } Basically I have some code that is generated on the server and I want to pass that code to a JS function which when it has finished processing it executes the code passed as a parameter. This could also be useful for the parameter of setTimeout, then the code passed could be executed in the timeout event. Can this be done?

The url contains JSON this is my code: xyz = null $.get('http://www.someurl.com/123=json', function(data) { var xyz = data.positions[0].latitude; }); alert(xyz); //some more code using xyz variable I know that xyz will alert a null result because the $.get is asychronous. So is there any way I can use the xyz outside this get function? Thank you

I am trying to identify in well over 100 bat files where each of about 100 SSIS Packages are running. I'm doing this in Windows batch, have tried about 20 various approaches without success - any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a function that takes in user input via std::cin: std::getline(std::cin, in); and creates a corresponding data structure by matching it with a regular expression. The function then returns this data structure. I'm using boost.test and I want to create a unit test to check that the output data type is correct given some inputs. However I don't know how to go about it since the input isn't passed as an argument to the function. EDIT: Is there a simple way to create a boost test case that feeds the function a string via standard input?

The sub query in #2 selects all Ids from S, and then it returns all R's that also have those ID's, no?     I have the following code which I use a lot of times in the class. for (int i = 0; i < someList.size(); i++) { for (int j = 0; j < someList.size(); j++) { if (i != j) { someList.get(i).sendMessageTo(someList.get(j))); //variable action } } } The purpose of the loop is to make each element in the List to send a message (or perform another action) to every element in the list except itself. Is there any way I can create a helper method so I don't have to repeat the loop code. I want to be able to state the variable action and call the helper method. Thanks.
