  • Why do I get a "Day too big" error from Perl?

    I have been helping someone debug some code where the error message was "Day too big". I know that this springs from localtime and the Y2038 bug (most google results appear to be people dealing with cookies expiring well into the future). We appear to have 'fixed' the problem by using time to get the current date. However, given that none of our original dates should have hit the 2038 issue I'm sceptical that we've actually fixed the problem ... Are there other instances that anyone knows of where one would hit "day too big"? OS is Solaris. Sample code - the actual code is quite large and the person I'm working with hasn't actually isolated the offending part (which is why I'm worried the 'fix' is not actually a fix). If I can put together something concise which reproduces the issue I will post!

  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS when trying to release an ABRecordRef

    I've got the following class that is a wrapper around an ABPerson (ABRecordRef): @interface Recipient : NSObject { ABRecordRef person; } - (id)initWithPerson:(ABRecordRef)person; @end @implementation - (id)initWithPerson:(ABRecordRef)_person { if(self = [super init]) person = CFRetain(_person); return self; } - (void)dealloc { if(person) CFRelease(person); [super dealloc]; } @end I've left some of the methods out, but they aren't relevant to this question. Everything works fine, except I get an EXC_BAD_ACCESS on the if(person) CFRelease(person); line. Why does this happen? I'm not calling CFRelease or CFRetain at all anywhere else in my app.

Please note that the images changes for each row and I am creating the controller using lazy initialization that is I create or alloc it whenever I need it. I saw on internet many people facing the same issue, but very rare good solutions. I have multiple views using the same way and I see almost memory raised to 4MB within 20-25 view transitions. What is the good solution to resolve this issue. tnx.

  • Convert System.DateTime to Javascript DateString

    I am working on an ASP .net MVC application. I have a System.DateTime? property say creationDate, which gets its value assigned from controller code. In my javascript I have access to this value, and I wanted to display this value in mm/dd/yyyy format in my grid. But I am not sure on how to convert System.Datetime? of c# to a javscript date or datestring value? Any help would be appreciated.

    Does anyone have a handy powershell script that gets a set of files from TFS based on a modification date? I'd like to say "give me all the files in this folder (or subfolder) that were modified after X/Y/ZZZZ" and dump those files to a folder other than the folder they would normally go to. I know enough powershell to hack about and get this done, eventually, but I'm hoping to avoid that.

  • Silverlight WinDg Memory Release Issue

    Hi, I have used WinDbg succesfully on a number of occasions to track down and fix memory leaks (or more accurately the CLRs inability to garbage collect a released object), but am stuck with one particular control. The control is displayed within a child window and when the window is closed a reference to the control remains and cannot be garbage collected. I have resolved what I believe to be the majority of the issues that could have caused the leak, but the !gcroot of the affected object is not clear (to me at least) as to what is still holding on to this object.   • AppDomain.Unload doesn't release the assembly I loaded up with Reflection

    Hi All, I am struggling with an issue while loading an assembly up in a temporary AppDomain to read its GetUsedReferences property. Once I do that, I call AppDomain.Unload(tempDomain) and then I try to clean up my mess by deleting the files. That fails because the file is locked. I Unloaded the temporary domain though! Any thoughts or suggestions would be greately appreciated. Here is some of my code: //I already have btyes for the .dll and the .pdb from the actual files AppDomainSetup domainSetup = new AppDomainSetup(); domainSetup.ApplicationBase = Environment.CurrentDirectory; domainSetup.ShadowCopyFiles = "true"; domainSetup.CachePath = Environment.CurrentDirectory; AppDomain tempAppDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("TempAppDomain", AppDomain.CurrentDomain.Evidence, domainSetup); //Load up the temp assembly and do stuff Assembly projectAssembly = tempAppDomain.Load(assemblyFileBuffer, symbolsFileBuffer); //Then I'm trying to clean up AppDomain.Unload(tempAppDomain); tempAppDomain = null; File.Delete(tempAssemblyFile); //I even try to force GC File.Delete(tempSymbolsFile); Anyway, the Deletes fail because the files are locked still.   • How do you keep track of what you have released in production?

    Tipically a deploy in production does not involve just a mere source code update (build) but requires a lot of other important tasks like for example: Db scripts (tables, query..) Configuration files (differents from test\production) Batch to schedule Executables to move to the correct path Etc. etc. In our company we just send an email to a "Release email address" describing the tasks in order, which changeset need to be published (TFS), which SP need to be updated, db scripts and so on. I believe there's not a magic tool that does these tasks automagically in order, rollback included; but probably there's something better than email that helps to keep track of releases in production. Do you have any tools to suggest or practices to share?

  • core-plot and NSDate (iPhone)

    I wish to plot a line graph where the x-axis is defined as a number of days between two dates and the y-axis is a value that varies on each of the days. I can plot the y values as an NSNumber but I have no idea how to set the ranges and the markup on the x-axis. I have looked at the date example in the "examples" directory of the core-plot distribution but have found it a little confusing. Does anyone know of a tutorial, or code sample, which might asist me in this regard? Thank you in advance.

    A number of holidays move around from year to year. For example, in Canada Victoria day (aka the May two-four weekend) is the Monday before May 25th, or Thanksgiving is the 2nd Monday of October (in Canada). I've been using variations on this Linq query to get the date of a holiday for a given year: var year = 2011; var month = 10; var dow = DayOfWeek.Monday; var instance = 2; var day = (from d in Enumerable.Range(1,DateTime.DaysInMonth(year,month)) let sample = new DateTime(year,month,d) where sample.DayOfWeek == dow select sample).Skip(instance-1).Take(1); While this works, and is easy enough to understand, I can imagine there is a more elegant way of making this calculation versus this brute force approach. Of course this doesn't touch on holidays such as Easter and the many other lunar based dates.

    If my model for Items is: class Item(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=500) startDate = models.DateField("Start Date", unique="true") endDate = models.DateField("End Date") Each Item needs to have a unique date range. for example, if i create an Item that has a date range of June 1st to June 8th, how can I keep and Item with a date range of June 3rd to June 5th from being created (or render an error with template logic)?
