• Computing MD5SUM of large files in C#

  I am using following code to compute MD5SUM of a file - byte[] b = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(file); string sum = BitConverter.ToString(new MD5CryptoServiceProvider().ComputeHash(b)); This works fine normally, but if I encounter a large file (~1GB) - e.g. an iso image or a DVD VOB file - I get an Out of Memory exception. Though, I am able to compute the MD5SUM in cygwin for the same file in about 10secs. Please suggest how can I get this to work for big files in my program. Thanks

• How can I tell which config file Apache is using?

  I'm trying to set up virtual hosts on Mac OS X. I've been modifying httpd.conf and restarting the server, but haven't had any luck in getting it to work. Furthermore, I notice that it's not serving files in the DocumentRoot mentioned in httpd.conf (Libraries/WebServer/Documents), but in a different directory (/usr/local/apache2/htdocs). I don't see this folder mentioned anywhere in httpd.conf. Furthermore, PHP works, but the "LoadModule php5_module" line is commented out. This makes me think it's using another .conf file. How can I figure out which config is actually being loaded? Update: I just deleted that httpd.conf and apache behaves the same after restart, so it definitely wasn't using it!

• Python (windows) will open files from command line, but not from a script launched from eclipse

  I'm pretty new to writing python for windows (linux is no problem), and am having problems getting python to recognize files when running scripts, though it behaves fine in the command line What am I doing wrong here? def verifyFile(x): # return os.path.isfile(x) This will return true (with a valid file, of course) when called from the python command line, but when I run the script from eclipse, or launch it from windows, it ALWAYS returns false. Any thoughts on why this is? I've tried passing pathnames like this: D:\Documents and Settings\BDE\Desktop\cdburn.jpg and like this: D:/Documents and Settings/BDE/Desktop/cdburn.jpg I've changed sys,argv[0] to '' I've tried this: def verifyFile(x): # try: f = open(x, 'r') f.close() return True except: return False and am getting no love!   I have to implement a search feature which is able to quickly perform arbitrary complex queries to XML-data. If the user makes a query, all XML files must be searched to find possible matches. The users will have lots of XML-Files (a few 10000 or more) which are typically a few kilobytes in size. All the XML-files have almost the same structure. I already benchmarked XPath, it is too slow for my needs. How can it be done most efficiently? Is is possible to create indexes for the contents of the XML files (preserving content semantics, not just plain fulltext search)? Will it be useful to put the XML data into an (embedded) SQL database and do the queries with SQL? What other possibilities do I have?

• Application Event Log keeps getting corrupted

  I recently asked about repairing a corrupt event log, because it seemed to be a one-off event. The event log has since exhibited the same behavior 3 times. We have been trying to find patterns, but so far we have found nothing. The server runs several ASP.NET applications and three scheduled tasks written in .NET. The last modified date of the event log once happened to be the same time as one of the scheduled tasks, but the others have not been. Any suggestions of where to look next or a way we can get any information out of a corrupt evtx file? The server is running critical e-commerce applications, so we want to keep the number of restarts required to a minimum.   I was trying to run my application and check for some output on the production.log. However Rails throws this error. Apache log Rails Error: Unable to access log file. Please ensure that /var/www/somefolder/someapp/log/production.log exists and is chmod 0666. The log level has been raised to WARN and the output directed to STDERR until the problem is fixed. I have performed the necessary chmod 666 production.log to make it work but I realized that the file is under root access. So my file permissions are -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 20845 2010-03-18 01:18 production.log Im not sure how to allow Rails to access this file. Im fairly new to managing linux production env so I request you to excuse my ignorance.

  Is it possible to have a separate php.ini file that overrides the default php.ini file for each virtual host? I'm running Apache/2.2.14, PHP 5.3.2-1. The core of the error seems to be Library not loaded: libmysqlclient.16.dylib I think its to do with the path apache is using to locate libmysqlclient.16.dylib when I run otool in the lib directory it looks good otter:lib mathew$ pwd /usr/local/mysql/lib otter:lib mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib libmysqlclient.16.dylib: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (compatibility version 16.0.0, current version 16.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.1) but from outside it can't find it otter:lib mathew$ cd / otter:/ mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib otool: can't open file: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (No such file or directory) if i manually set DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH otool works otter:lib mathew$ DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mysql/lib otter:lib mathew$ otool -L libmysqlclient.16.dylib libmysqlclient.16.dylib: libmysqlclient.16.dylib (compatibility version 16.0.0, current version 16.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.1) When I run the django testing server, my .bash_profile sets up the virtualenv and the path to the mysql dynamic library export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mysql/lib/:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH export PATH When i run apache it finds my virtualenv paths, but it doesn't seem to find the dynamic library path. I tried adding this path to /usr/sbin/envvars DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/lib:/usr/local/mysql/lib:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH" export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and to /private/etc/paths.d/libmysql /usr/local/mysql/lib then restarted the machine but that has not changed the error message.   I need to store a dictionary to a file as fast as possible. Both key and value are objects and not guaranteed to be marked as Serializable. Also I prefer a method faster than serializing thousands of objects. So I looked into Mapped Memory Files support in .NET 4. However, it seems MemoryMappedViewAccessor only allows storage of structs and not reference types. Is there a way of storing the memory used by a reference type of a file and reconstructing the object from that blob of memory (without binary serialization)?

  Greeting All, I want to achieve transparent persistence of Java objects through memory-mapped files (utilize the OS paging/swapping mechanism). My problem is: how can I move a Java object to my memory-mapped block ? Plus, how can I force a new object instance to reside in such blocks ? As you all know, a memory-mapped block can be seen as a byte array, and what I am really asking here is how to overlap the address space of Java objects with the one of such arrays ? • How do I change the document root of a Linux Apache server?

  I'm trying to learn how to configure an Apache HTTP server (with which I have no experience) someone else has setup in a VM running Ubuntu 8.04. I know the server is running, since I get "<html><body><h1>It works!</h1></body></html>" when I go to http://1.2.3.4/ (where 1.2.3.4 is the VM's IP number). I found apache2.conf and httpd.conf (among other files) in /etc/apache2/. httpd.conf is empty. I tried adding DocumentRoot "/home/username/temp" into /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and put some simple HTML in /home/username/temp/index.html. But when I reload http://1.2.3.4/ there's no change. Do I need to restart httpd to get it to accept the change to DocumentRoot?

• Can I make Apache drop a connection when matching a URL?

  Using mod_rewrite I can construct a rule to respond with a clean error code (e.g. 404 not found, 410 gone, or 403 unauthorised) when a page is requested that I don't want to serve. But frequently I get completely erroneous requests from hackers scanning my website for vulnerabilities or possibly cross-site scripting attempts. For these customers I do not want to return a clean error - I'd rather do something else like immediately drop the connection with no response or, alternatively, hold the connection open for a lengthy period of time to frustrate the automated process. Any ideas how to accomplish this with Apache? I've read that nginx has the ability to immediately terminate a connection when a particular pattern is matched.

• Encrypt connection between apache web server and mysql server.

  I'm setting up a local webapp. I have a CentOS-5 box that will be the webserver (Apache 2.2). I have another box (RHEL5) that will be used only for MySQL. The data will be encrypted on the webserver via PHP before being sent to the MySQL box and inserted into the db. All web-based connections to the webserver will be encrypted via SSL. From the research I've done, it's not totally clear on whether or not there is a need to encrypt the connection to the db from webserver (NB paranoia level: Orange). If it is not overkill, or even if it is (unless it is a really bad idea for some reason), any advice or pointers on the direction to take to get this done would be appreciated.

  Hello, I have to locations (office and service providers). One DNS(bind) serving our domain as authoritative, and a service provider webserver with our corporate web on a private server. So.. Now we are planing to upgrade our server on the ISP to a new one, and I would like to use this situation to improve our service. Is it possible to mount a high availability apache/mysql/php within to different locations? I will install a bind slave on the same new server, so I hope it will make things easier, but I need some hints and tips on how to ride it. THanks.

  Suppose we have a config file with sensitive passwords. I'd like to version control the whole project, including the config file as well, but I don't want to share my passwords. That could be good, if this config file: password=secret foo=bar becomes password=* foo=bar and the other users of the vcs could also set up the password on they own. To ignoring the file isn't a good approach, the developers should be aware, if the config file changes. Example: Local version: password=own_secret foo=bar config file in vcs: password=* foo=bar Then suddenly, the config file changes: password=* foo=bar baz=foo And the local version would become for each developer: password=own_secret foo=bar baz=foo This is my solution. How could I achieve this behaviour? How do you store your config files? Is there a way to do that, or should I hack something?
