  • Best practice for passing configuration to each GUI object

    Hi, I am writing an application, where I do have few different windows implemented, where each window is a separate class. Now I need somehow to pass a single configuration object to all of them. My GUI is designed in way, where I have one main window, which may create some child windows of its own, and these child windows can have their own childs (so there is no possibility to create all windows in initialization part and feed the config object to all of them from the very beginning)... What would be best practice for sharing this configuration object between them? Always passing via constructor or maybe making it somewhere as final public static and let each window object to access it when needed? Thanks

  • NHibernate auditing in disconnected mode

    I'm developing an app with a Silverlight UI, transferring my domain objects over WCF and persisting them via NHibernate. I'm therefore working with NHibernate in a disconnected mode. I'm already using the NHibernate PreUpdate and PreInsert EventListeners to perform some metadata operations (updating Create/Update date, created/updated by etc) and they are working fine. I now have a requirement to perform data logging on some of my domain objects. So I will need to have an audit table that has a before-save and after-save state of certain entities. I had wanted to use the @event.Persister.OldState and @event.Persister.NewState to perform this logging, but because I am in a disconnected scenario (using different Sessions from when data is retrieved to when it is persisted), @event.Persister.OldState is null when I am saving my changes back to the database. How is anyone else doing data logging in a disconnected scenario with NHibernate?

Now I want to find all SerializableViewState Objects, that are hold by Objects hold by this MemorySessionData object. In other words: My MemorySessionData Object holds several objects, these hold objects again and so on... I want to find all SerializableViewState Objects in this tree. How would the OQL look like? :-/

  • Return an object after parsing xml with SAX

    I have some large XML files to parse and have created an object class to contain my relevant data. Unfortunately, I am unsure how to return the object for later processing. Right now I pickle my data and moments later depickle the object for access. This seems wasteful, and there surely must be a way of grabbing my data without hitting the disk. def endElement(self, name): if name == "info": # done collecting this iteration self.data.setX(self.x) self.data.setY(self.y) elif name == "lastTagOfInterest": # done with file # want to return my object from here filehandler = open(self.outputname + ".pi", "w") pickle.dump(self.data, filehandler) filehandler.close() I have tried putting a return statement in my endElement tag, but that does not seem to get passed up the chain to where I call the SAX parser.     Ok i saw many post's on how to serialize the value of dragged items to get hash and they tell how to save them. Now the question is how do i persist the dragged items the next time when user log's in using the has value that i got eg: <ul class="list"> <li id="id_1"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_2"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_3"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget ui-widget-content"> </div> </li> <li id="id_4"> <div class="item ui-corner-all ui-widget"> </div> </li> </ul> which on serialize will give "id[]=1&id[]=2&id[]=3&id[]=4" Now think that i saved it to Sql server database in a single field called SortOrder.   • Domain object validation vs view model validation

    I am using ASP.NET MVC 3 and I am using FluentValidation to validate my view models. I am just a little concerned that I might not be on the correct track. As far as what I know, model validation should be done on the domain object. Now with MVC you might have multiple view models that are similar that needs validation. What happens if a property from a domain object occurs in more than one view model? Now you are validating the same property twice, and they might not even be in sync. So if I have a User domain object then I would like to do validation on this object. Now what happens if I have UserAViewModel and UserBViewModel, so now it is multiple validations that needs to be done. The scenario above is just an example, so please don't critise on it.

  • Determining selected state of jQuery Buttons

    I've got two radio buttons in a .net page which are being transformed to jQuery buttons a la http://jqueryui.com/demos/button/#radio When the page is loaded I have button 2 as checked. When clicking the buttons I'm firing the postback event. Problem is you can click on that button that is selected by default on the initial load i.e. Button 2, the postback is fired but the event handler isn't called in the .net code behind because the radio button is already classed as selected (and in normal circumstances wouldn't allow the postback to fire). To get around this I've added the e.PreventDefault() method BUT this is causing issues when Button 1 is clicked because before the click handler is called the button is set to selected.   • Referencing the current jQuery object in a chain?

    At DevDays in SF last year (before jQuery 1.4 was released), I thought they mentioned an upcoming feature in 1.4 that would allow you to reference the current jQuery object while in a chain. I've read through all of the 1.4 improvements and wasn't able to find it. Does anyone know how this can be done? Example Being able to access the current jQuery object would be helpful when working with methods that are in relation to the current object like .next(): // Current way var items = $(this).closest('tr'); items = items.add(items.next(':not([id])')); // Magical 1.4 way? Is there a "chain"-like object? var items = $(this).closest('tr') .add(chain.next(':not([id])'));

  • Modifying object in AfterInsert / AfterUpdate

    I have a domain object that holds results of a calculation based on parameters that are properties of the same domain object. I'd like to make sure that any time parameters get changed by the user, it recalculates and gets saved properly into the database. I am trying to do that with afterInsert (to make sure calculation is correct in the first place), and afterUpdate. However, since my calculation is trying to modify the object itself, it's not working - throwing various hibernate exceptions. I tried to put the afterUpdate code into a transaction, but that didn't help. I am afraid I am getting into a circular dependency issues here. The exception I am getting right now is: org.hibernate.StaleObjectStateException: Row was updated or deleted by another transaction (or unsaved-value mapping was incorrect): [esc.scorecard.PropertyScorecard#27] Are the GORM events designed for simpler use cases? I am tempted to conclude that modifying the object you are in the middle of saving is not the way to go.

  • Sharing state/changes across ViewModels

    I have an App which has a Tasks tab and a Projects tab. I decided to make a separate ViewModel for each of the tabs, TasksViewModel and ProjectsViewModel. The Tasks tab has a new task area with an associated project pulldown and the Projects tab (obviously) has a list of projects. What I'd like is for the pulldown on the Tasks tab to share the same collection as the Projects tab list so that any time I add or remove a project on the Projects tab the list on the Tasks tab is up to date automatically. This worked well with a single ViewModel but it was beginning to become quite unruly. Should I not have split into two ViewModels? Is there a common method of sharing data like this? Perhaps pass the same ObservableCollection<Project> into each of the ViewModels? Perhaps some type of notification back to the TasksViewModel along the lines of ICollectionChanged. Appreciate any insight/input!

I thought I could do this using lazy loading as follows: class Foo { @OneToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY, optional = false) private Bar bar; } Foo f = session.get(Foo.class, fooId); // Hibernate fetches Foo f.getBar(); // Hibernate fetches full Bar object f.getBar().getId(); // No further fetch, returns id I want f.getBar() to not trigger another fetch. I want hibernate to give me a proxy object that allows me to call .getId() without actually fetching the Bar object. What am I doing wrong?

    I have a database with columns looking like: session | order | atype | amt --------+-------+-------+----- 1 | 0 | ADD | 10 1 | 1 | ADD | 20 1 | 2 | SET | 35 1 | 3 | ADD | 10 2 | 0 | SET | 30 2 | 1 | ADD | 20 2 | 2 | SET | 55 It represents actions happening. Each session starts at 0. ADD adds an amount, while SET sets it. I want a function to return the end value of a session, e.g. SELECT session_val(1); --returns 45 SELECT session_val(2); --returns 55 Is it possible to write such a function/query? I don't know how to do any iteration-like things with SQL, or if it's possible at all.

    Hi all, I have a JSON object that is populated by an XHR. I then need to update that object with values from a separate XHR call. The issue I am running into is the second call isn't being made at the correct time and I think it's an issue with how I structured my object.   • Remembering state: content offset and table cell reuse.

    I have a tableview with cells that have a scrollview in them. The scrollview is paged, 2 pages to be exact, and is meant to be able to quickly compare two small blocks of text. I'm trying to find a way to remember what the content offset of the scrollview is. Cell reuse is killing me. I've tried resetting the offset in prepareForReuse or directly in the cellForRowAtIndexPath, but it seems to give me exactly what you'd expect: Randomly offset tablecells after reuse. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Classic asp paging and session state

    Hi, Working on a classic asp page that uses paging. The error I am having a problem with is this: Lets say that you have 5 pages returned in your record set and you are on page 2. You leave and come back, you then press the link for page 3, the trouble is your session has timed out. I don't know why this happens but the page is reloaded, but the session check is bypassed and of course when the page attempts to retrieve the record set the session variables are now empty so I am getting a message stating: error near ',' line 1, because now the query is defunct.   • Eclipse > Javascript > Code highlighting not working with Object Notation

    I am using Eclipse Helios with PDT, and when I am editing JavaScript files with the default JavaScript Editor (JSDT), code highlighting (Mark Occurrences) is not working for half of the code, for example JSON-style (or Object Literal if you will) declarations. Little example: Foo = {}; Foo.Bar = Foo.Bar || {}; Foo.Bar = { bar: function(str) { alert(str) }, baz: function(str) { this.bar(str); // This bar *is* highlighted though } }; Foo.Bar.baz('text'); No Bar, bar or baz is highlighted. For now, I humbly edit the JavaScript part of projects in Notepad++ because it just highlights every occurrence of whatever is currently selected. Is there a common practice for Eclipse JavaScript developers to get code highlighting work correctly, using the popular Object Literal notation? An option or update I missed? -update- I have found that code highlighting depends on the code being properly outlined. Altough commonly used, Object Literal outlining still seems rare in javascript editors. the Spket Javascript Editor does partial Object Literal outlining, and the Aptana Javascript Editor does full Object Literal outlining. But both loses other important functionality. A quest for the editor with the least loss of functionality is currently in progress in this question.
