• How to improve IntelliJ code editor speed?

  I am using IntelliJ (Community Edition) for several months, and at first I'm pleased about its speed & simplicity. But now, after upgrading to version 10, it's extremely slow. Sometimes I click a file then it takes 5 - 15 seconds to open that file (it freeze for that time). I don't know if I have done anything which cause that: I have installed 2 plugins(regex, sql), and have 2 versions of IntelliJ on my machine (now the version 9 removed, only version 10 remains). Is there any tips to improve speed of code editor, in general, or specifically IntelliJ? I have some experience when using IntelliJ: 1. Should open IntelliJ a while before working, cause it needs time for indexing. Don't open too many code tabs Open as less other program as possible. I'm using 2 GB RAM WinXP, and it just seems fairly enough for Java, IntelliJ & Chrome at the same time.

• Doctrine: Multiple (whereIn OR whereIn) query?

  I'm having trouble crafting a fairly simple query with Doctrine... I have two arrays ($countries, $cities) and I need to check whether database record values would match any inside either. I'm looking for something like: ->whereIn('country', 'city', $countries, $cities) ... with 'country' being a WHERE IN for $countries and 'city' being a WHERE IN for $city. I could separate the two out but the needed query has lots of other conditions so that's not possible. The resulting SQL I'm after would be: SELECT ... WHERE ... AND ... AND ... AND ('country' IN (1,2,3) OR 'city' IN (7,8,9)) AND ... AND ...; One could therefore think of it also as a bracketing issue only. Anyone know if this is possible with Doctrine DQL? I've looked through the documentation but can't find any direction. Thanks

• LINQ OrderBy with more than one field

  I have a list that I need sorted by two fields. I've tried using OrderBy in LINQ but that only allows me to specify one field. I'm looking for the list to be sorted by the first field and then if there are any duplicates in the first field to sort by the second field. For example I want the results to look like this (sorted by last name then first name). Adams, John Smith, James Smith, Peter Thompson, Fred I've seen that you can use the SQL like syntax to accomplish this but I am looking for a way to do it with the OrderBy method. • Session caching problem

  I have a strange problem with php sessions. I use them for authorization on my site. I store two variables - currently logged in user's id and username in session. When I log in with one username, than log out and log in again with another username the previous user's id is returned using the session variable instead of the current user. The most strange thing is that this happens only when it comes to insert some data into database. When I directly echo this variable the correct id is displayed, but when I insert new record into database this variable sends incorrect id. • Referencing the last row's data in Crystal Report

  I have a report where the fields come from data pulled from a SQL server. I have a total field that i have added to the report...however i have an interesting conundrum--i was hoping someone had a formula i could use. Three of my columns do NOT need summation...however my project requirements are telling me instead to just pull the last number from the last row in the report and putting that in the total row. To better clarify: 1999 0.1% 0.2% 0.3% 2001 -2% 0.3% 3.4% Basically, in the total field, i'd be pulling the values from 2001 since it is the last report row. In my total row, i want to have -2%, 0.3% and 3.4% showing (since those are the last row's values). SO basically, i just want to pull the last report row's data (NOT total it). Anybody have a formula i can use for this?

• Entity Framework, what's so bad and what's so good?

  Hi all, I am curious as to what your opinions are in Entity Framework? I have read some things like the first version of it is super horrible because it doesn't handle many to many relationships (though many ORMs don't and I've never seen the issue with just making a linking table). Also is LINQ to Entities the same as Entity Framework? I think it is, but it seems like one term is used or the other. I have used Linq to SQL before, what are the advantages of it compared to that? In terms of coding preference I like to build everything from the ground up so I can fully understand it/be in control of the code I write. So I have heard that Entity Framework is harder and I know LinqToSQL handles a lot of stuff automatically, but specifically what are the differences? I appreciate your responses, Thanks =)

• What is the point in using a "real" database modeling tool?

  We currently have a 10 year old nasty, spaghetti-code-style SQL Server database that we are soon looking to pretty much re-write from scratch as part of a re-write to a large web application. (The existing application will serve as the functional requirements for the next incarnation of the app). Some have suggested we use Visio to do all the diagramming and to generate the DDL, but others have suggested we use a dedicated database design tool, rather than a diagramming tool that is able to export DDL. Is there any benefit to using "real" DB design tools, such as ModelRight, over general tools like Visio? If so, what are those specific benefits? Edit: In a nutshell, what can real/dedicated tools do that something like Visio can't, and how much do these capabilities matter (from a best-practices standpoint, for example)

• Can I get a dump of all my databases *except one* using mysqldump?

  I'm currently using mySQLdump to backup my dev machine and servers. There is one project I just started, however, that has a HUUUUUGE database that I don't really need backed up, and i'll be a big problem to add it to the rest of the backup cycle. I'm currently doing this: "c:\Program Files\mysql\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqldump" -u root -pxxxxxx --all-databases g:\backups\MySQL\mysqlbackup.sql Is it possible to somehow specify "except this database(s)"? I wouldn't like to have to specify the list of DBs manually, since that would mean that I'd have to remember updating my backup batch file every time I create a new DB, and I know that's not gonna happen. EDIT: As you probably guessed from my command line above, i'm doing this on Windows, so I can't do any kind of fancy bash stuff, only wimpy .bat things.   Hi, I am developing a Blackberry app which should be able to access a DB. Here is my development environment and the tools I am using: Eclipse (Galileo) IDE with the Blackberry plugin installed. Blackberry OS 5.0 SQLAnywhere's DB 11 with UltraLiteJ (I am targeting Blackberrys running OS 4.1 and above) I have successfully executed a sample project for building a Blackberry application that uses the UltraLiteJ DB, following the tutorial in the UltraLiteJ documentation*. The tutorial creates, populates and retrieves data from the DB using java code. Now, I want to be able to access the tables and view data in them from the Eclipse IDE. Something similar to the FireFox plugin for SqlLite or say the Enterprise Manager for Sql Server 2005 which is a DB Explorer providing access to the StoredProcedures, Views, DB Diagrams etc. for a Database. • Software to find dependencys in a database that not have them as restrictions

  I have a database in SQL server 2005 that originaly comes fom an old mainframe. All relations was set in the surrounding software and there are non i the database. I need to find the relations, not by field name but by actual contence in the registers. (as suggestions, I realize I'l have to check them up) It would be nice with some extras, like finding motherless posts etc. but not a primary demand. There are some 200 registers with max 2 000 000 posts in any register. Does any one know of a software that can help me with this? The software I can find presuposes that relations are set in the database :(

• my android app runs fine in the emulator, but when i publish it it's wrong

  i have an app that has a few checkboxes in the settings and then compiles a remote sql based on the checkboxes selected. i ran it in the emulator and it's fine. but then i exported it and published it as an app, and the same checked boxes aren't being passed correctly. i wonder if it's a caching issue or something. tried deleting the apks a few times and republish but to no avail. i "fake-edited" the source java and then export again, still no difference. i'm kind of new to eclipse but is there a force build option? i only see build-automatically option under project but not sure how i can make sure that the apk exported is the same as run in the emulator edit the emulator is version 1.5, and my phone is nexus one running 2.1- not sure if that makes a difference thanks

  I have a dropdownlist, which dynamically populate data from SQL Server and i wanna manually insert two items on top of the DDL after data binding. So, the DDL would has data something like this: Select Branch (manually insert) ALL (manually insert) AIR AMP ABG ... I tried to achieve it by using code below: ddlBranch.Items.Insert(0, "Select Branch") ddlBranch.Items(0).Value = CMM.sExcVal1 ddlBranch.Items.Insert(1, "ALL") ddlBranch.Items(1).Value = "ALL" but it comes out giving me the data like this: Select Branch (manually insert) ALL (manually insert) ('AIR' branch should be here but it's gone) AMP ABG ... After manually insert the 'ALL' item into the DDL, the 'AIR' is gone which is already replaced by the 'ALL'. How can i remain all the data from server and at the same time i can manually insert two items?

• Mapped Stored Procedures in EF 1

  All, I'm using mapped Stored Procedures in EF 1. I've completed the following steps: 1) I've created my INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE queries in SQL Server. 2) I've built the EDMX and imported the INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE sprocs as part of my model. 3) I've set up a Stored Procedure Mapping on a table inside of my EDMX file. The INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE sprocs were mapped accordingly. Using this approach, I would expect to rebuild the application (and mine builds successfully) and then see the Stored Procedures as available function names via my EDMX object, such as: _entities.InsertComment(..), _entities.UpdateComment(..), and _entities.DeleteComment(..) Intellisense is not picking these names up and I can't figure out why. If I perform these same steps using EF4, the function names are automatically picked up by Intellisense after adding the Stored Procedure Mappings. Is this a bug in EF1? • How to display image that is located on another server on the network (ASP.NET)

  I've got a ASP.NET site that's located on a local server (MY_SERVER). And one of the things it does is pull up tiff files which are located on another server (ANOTHER_SERVER). The location of each of these files is stored in SQL. I pull up each of these images and am supposed to display them. The problem is: the files are not named with a tiff extension (does it matter?) they aren't displaying at all. I am using an Image control to display these images, and I'm not sure if it matters that the extension is not set (does the image control know the difference between an jpg and a tiff without the extension?) I am guessing the images aren't displaying because they are not on the same server MY_SERVER that the images are located (ANOTHER_SERVER). Any ideas on how to fix this?

  I am fairly new to C. (I have good knowledge of C# [Visual Studio] and Java [Eclipse]) I want to make a program that stores information. My first instinct was to use a database like SQL Server. But I don't think that it is compatible with C. So now I have two options: Create a struct (also typedef) containing the data types. Find a way to integrate SQLite through a C header file Which option do you think is best? Or do you have another option? I am kind of leaning toward making a struct with a typedef, but could be pursuaded to change my mind.

  I want to create a Flex 3 application running in Adobe Air that accesses an SQLite database and I need to keep this database in sync with an SQL server 2005 database running a website. Is this something that Flex supports or is it going to be a custom script? Also, has anybody done anything like this? Edit: The synchronisation can be done on a daily basis rather than real time. The data will be read only from a front end perspective with a CMS to do updates on the website.

  I have designed a class with sqlClient.SqlCommand wrappers to implement such functionality as automatic retries on timeout, Async (thread safety), error logging, and some sql server functions like WhoAmI. I've used some strongly typed datasets mainly for display purposes only, but I'd like to have the same database functionality that I use with my class. Is there an interface I can implement or a way to hook my command/connection class into the dataset at design or runtime? Or would I need to somehow write a wrapper for the dataset to implement these types of functions? if this is the only option could it be made generic to wrap anything that inherits from dataset?

  I have a table with an auto-incrementing ID. After inserting a new row, I would like to retrieve the new ID. I found an article that used the MySQL function LAST_INSERT_ID(). The article says to create a new query and submit it. I'm using MySQL Connector C++, Windows XP and Vista, and Visual Studio 9. Here are my questions: Is there an API, for the connector, that will fetch the ID out of the record? Does the result set, after an insert/append, contain the new ID? The LAST_INSERT_ID is MySQL specific. Is there an SQL standard method for obtaining the new ID?
