How to unhighlight everything ediff highlights in emacs

I am just starting to use ediff. The problem I have is how do I get rid of all the highlighting when I am done looking at comparisons. When I press q to quit ediff, the highlighting remains and I haven't been able to figure out how to turn it off.

It is probably something simple that I am overlooking.
