WEP key not working on laptop running Ubuntu

I can't connect to my router via wifi from my laptop (running Ubuntu) even if I'm 100% sure the WEP key I punch in is correct. It works via LAN though. I'm also not able to ping localhost 127.0.0.1.

I had some problems setting up the radio on my network card but I think that that works since it finds some wireless networks.

(Although it's much much faster than Windows it's useless since I can't download any libraries for development.)

What could be wrong with my setup?
