change to letter size on teXnicCenter & MikTex

this is a very stupid question...

but how come teXNicCenter and MikTex always generate an A4 size pdf paper?

I reinstalled both MikTex and TecNixCenter and I made sure that I selected "Letter" to be my default paper size. nothing changes.. :|

I need a letter size paper not A4.
