How to backup GMail contacts with avatars?

I have a an Android phone synced with GMail account, once or twice all my contacts where deleted from both. Fortunately I had a CSV backup of those contacts, unfortunately I made custom avatars for some of those contacts, and these are gone.

How to do a complete backup of contacts (with avatars) so they can be kept safe?

PS. I occasionally use Outlook 2007 via IMAP connection, maybe it can be utilized somehow?
