Having trouble converting windows vista and windows 7 physical machine to virtual machine.

I have having trouble converting windows vista physical laptop to a vmware image. I am using vmware converter. It starts the process but then never completes. Unknown errors come up in the log. there is enough space on the hard drive and i am only trying to convert c drive. any suggestions?
