I installed Python 3.1 yesterday on my Windows Vista PC, and was surprised to find that the version of IDLE is 2.6.4, for "Python 2.6.4 (r264:75708, Oct 26 2009, 08:23:19) [MSC v.1500 32 bit (Intel)] on win32"
I was hoping to use IDLE to investigate some of the new features of Python 3...
I guess…

Hello, everyone
I am using a piece of self-modifying code for a college project.
Here it is:

def main():
# print the time it is last run
lastrun = 'Mon Jun 8 16:31:27 2009'

I'm an absolute beginner using IDLE (Python 2.6.4) to learn the basics. I recently found a Python program that I want to run but it throws an error although the code looks fine (i.e all modules exist):
from css.parse import parse
data = """

padding: 2px;
margin: 1em;
border-width:…

Hi,
IDLE is my favorite Python editor. It offers very nice and intuitive Python shell which is extremely useful for unit-testing and debugging, and a neat debugger.
However, code executed under IDLE is insanely slow. By insanely I mean 3 orders of magnitude slow:
bash
time echo "for i in range(10000):…

I'm currently using IDLE, its decent, but I'd like to know if there're better lightweight IDEs built especially for Mac — free or commercial.

I can't import some python libraries (PIL, psycopg2) that I just installed with MacPorts. I looked through these forums, and tried to adjust my PATH variable in $HOME/.bash_profile in order to fix this but it did not work.
I added the location of PIL and psycopg2 to PATH.
I know that Terminal is…

I want to pass a chunk of Python code to Python in R with something like system('python ...'), and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to emulate the python console in this case. For example, suppose the code is "print 'hello world'", how can I get the output like this in R?

Hi,
I am currently struggling to call a non python program from a python script.
I have a ~1000 files that when passed through this C++ program will generate ~1000 outputs. Each output file must have a distinct name.
The command I wish to run is of the form:
program_name -input -output -o1 -o2…
