Why does Explorer lock up indefinitely when I try to access a particular file?

I'm working in XP Pro and I've never seen this problem. When I try to open a file, Explorer locks up and I have to shut it down from the task manager. When I right-click, the only options in the context menu are Print, Open With..., and Send To. No Delete, no cut/copy/paste, etc.
