Social is the new search

before you read my question, I want to let you know that you have the freedom to delete or migrate this question. I know it probably doest not belog here, but I could not find any stackexchange site that I could ask this. ok.

So, what does this "social is the new search" mean from a webmaster/dev standpoint?

Does it even make sense? Or is is just some marketing BS.

I'm trying to wrap my head around this, and it is just not clicking. And hearing the word "social" makes me wanna throwup sometimes.
