but i am looking for a more permanent solution right now. It happens to me at least once a day and when that happens, I usually go to compiz, uncheck and check window decorator and it will bring it back. But it's sort annoying and just wonder if there is a permanent fix out yet?

I am using gnome (not unity), on a bran-new thinkpad t520.
