How to squeeze the maximum performance out of Unity and GNOME 3?

I see that I do not get good performance with the new Unity desktop, but I should say that Unity has improved a lot since the last edition Ubuntu 11.10.

How to squeeze the maximum performance out of 1. Unity 2. GNOME 3
