I think anyone who's used Oracle SQL Developer will agree that it's painfully slow on the load. My research has lead me to a solution that seems to have helped a little, and that's telling OSQLD not to check for updates on startup. However, it still takes several minutes to open.

What could OSQLD possibly be doing during load time? Is there any way get it to open right away?

Edit: Adding potentially relevant system specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5-2520M 2.5 ghz
  • Windows 7 32-bit
  • RAM: 4 gb
