My Network and Sharing Center shows multiple connections to the internet, where only one is expected:

My internet access works fine, but since the "Unidentified Network" is set to public after each boot, sharing and network discovery don't work as well.

Similar questions on Google point mostly to the Bonjour service, but I am sure that this is not, and never was, installed on this machine.

So: How can I get rid of the unidentified network?
