My girlfriend bought a laptop last week. It's a core 2 duo with 4 GB
We installed vista 64bit, and one of the first things we did was right click on "My computer" to see gthe properties. Immediately we noticed something strange about her RAM, the line said:
Installed memory (RAM): 4,00 GB (3,68 GB…

I have a vps with 256m physical ram and 512m swap space,
I am trying to use a software that need more than 256m and less than 512m ram, so it uses swap.
The problem is at some moment of the installation, the installation process checks the available physical ram, it's full (some swap is used),…

I need ideas on how to write a C program that reserve a specified amount of MB RAM until a key [ex. the any key] is pressed on a Linux 2.6 32 bit system.
*
/.eat_ram.out 200

For instance i run a lot of Virtual Test Environments in VMware Workstation and lately Ubuntu starts to lag just running 4 virtual machines each dedicated 512 MB. BTW im having 6GB memory on my laptop. This did…

I recently built a computer and randomly got a couple blue screens. I've run memtest and one of the memory sticks consistently throws memtest errors, while the other does not.
The odd part is, memtest lists the following settings for my RAM:
RAM: 535 MHz DDR 107 / CAS 2.5-1-3-1 DDR1 128 bits
But…

I need an easy way to do system stability tests. I have come to rely on Prime95 which does a fantastic job of proving stability (or instability) very quickly; but it requires an OS installed.
I would like something like Prime95 that stresses both CPU and RAM (maybe PCI-Ex bus also?) but runs in a…

I've got a machine with a DQ965GF motherboard. Two days ago it started locking up hard. Ran memtest 3.3, 1.7, and TestMem 4. TestMem just freezes, memtest failed on moving 8 bit inversions. Letting memtest run eventually causes the system to restart.
I pulled memory sticks one by one, and then…
