How to install SSL on current site?

So I've looked at a ton of guides, but non of them seem to get our site to work.

This is what I was probably following the closest:https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-create-a-ssl-certificate-on-apache-for-ubuntu-12-04

I also wanted to know why there is a default-ssl in apache2/sites-available ? Is this where I would have to put my configuration?

This is my first exposure to SSL and site deployment in general. Thanks guys.
