  • grub shows same linux image twice

    After a recent update, I get multiple entries for same linux kernel version in the boot menu. I have tried running update-grub2 but it also lists the same linux-image version twice i.e adnan@adnan-laptop:/boot$ sudo update-grub2 Generating grub.cfg ...   • Oracle 10g express home page is not coming up

    Hello All: My Oracle 10g Express Edition , I can login in the SQL plus but I cannot login into oracle via SQL developer and cannot view the Home page at link http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex. This was working fine until yesterday. I have checked via (WINDOWS)netstat -ab and no other app is using the 8080 port. The only thing I did today was I changed my SQL server 2005 Developer edition from Windows authentication to Mixed Mode authentication. Can anyone let me know how to get the Oracle Web page and the SQL Developer to work. I will gratly appreciate that. Thanks! Adnan A.

  • Varnish + Nginx + multiple IP addresses

    This is my first shot at making Varnish work on my dedicated server which hosts 2 domains with 2 separate IP-addresses. My simplified setup is as follows: Nginx conf server { listen ip-address-1:8080; } server { listen ip-address-2:8080; } Varnish vcl backend default { .host = "127.0.0.1"; .port = "80"; } And in the varnish conf I have defined VARNISH_LISTEN_PORT=80 Varnish and Nginx (and php-fpm) are running properly but when I try to go to my website it shows the welcome to nginx page. The headers don't have the x-varnish in it. It seems that for some reason varnish is not listening to port 80. I'm suspecting this has to do with the vcl file where it is listening to the 127.0.0.1 host. I'm running two wordpress sites. Where should I look for to get Varnish working properly?   • CentOS 5.5 APIC issue on ESX 4.1 & ML115

    Hi, I've just installed vSphere 4.1 on an HP ProLiant ML115 G5 Quad-core and am trying to install CentOS 5.5 as a guest system. However, when the guest boots up I get a calibrate_APIC_clock warning and a kernel panic message. I've come across this knowledge base article on the vmware website which suggests moving the guest onto another Intel based host (!). Funnily enough I don't have a collection of spare host servers sitting around, so can anyone suggest another solution? Alternatively, would installing an earlier version of CentOS get around this issue, or would a yum update put me back to square one? How about BIOS settings, could anything be tweaked there? Thanks.

    Hello, I have about 2k of file that are currently in lower case like: file_one.cfr file_two.cfr .... I am searching for a fast way to rename them to upper case so they would be like; FILE_ONE.cfr FILE_TWO.cfr .... If I use from my shell; for i in *; do mv $i `echo $i | tr [:lower:] [:upper:]`; done I can get all file and the file extensions to upper case. But the extension should remain in lowercase, so my approach does not work. Any programming language is welcome.

    I am root user and suppose i want to run any application as another user. is it possible, without switching to another user. Something like # google-chrome user=abc I am actually executing a cli program as a non root user. I have set the sticky bit on and i am using setuid. So the program runs with root privileges. Now i am using system() with in the program to invoke gui app. But i dont want to run it as root. so i want to temporarily drop root privileges only for that call.

    Hello, I have Centos 5 running Apache/2.2.3. Now the default folder is /var/www/html and whatever I put in it shows when I browse it from the web. Now I would like to to create a folder www under my user bob and have all files loaded from that folder; /home/bob/www When I change the document root folder in my httpd.config I get an 403 error, I have even tried with virtualhosts but the same error shows. Any ideas on what to do next?

  • Windows 7 Loading Very Slow

    Hi guys, I've had a problem that only started to occur yesterday. When I boot into Windows 7 and log on to my user account, the computer gets very laggy and slow for at least 5 minutes. Icons take ages to load, and everything is rendered unclickable. This happens for about five minutes after which everything goes back to normal. I tried restarting a few times to see if this is a recurring problem, and it is. I ran a full system scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and found nothing wrong, and I also defragmented the disk to increase performance. However, the problem still exists. Edit: For the past day, I've been trying to install Ubuntu on the same laptop. When installing it on a partition didn't work, I decided to use Wubi. Could this somehow be the problem? Also, my hard drive gets hot a lot, so could the heat be affecting the hard drive and maybe making it defective? Any help on this issue would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Is the $130 extra worth it for the i7 and better graphics card? I do more than just basic computing. I plan on getting into web design (specifically using Photoshop and Dreamweaver), and I wish to do gaming. I know Conifg 1 is the better value, but I want to be sure that the $130 more is truly worth it. I dont have too much money and want to spend wisely as possible, yet I am a computer geek and plan on doing a lot more than the average user.

All the machines are within a LAN, but 1- Machine B can connect to A as well as C 2- Machine A i.e.my pc, it can only connect to B and not C Now to use internet, i do the following: ssh -X [email protected] Then i type firefox and i use the firefox of machine B with proxy setings as 172.16.24.3:3128 Instead of using firefox of B, i want to use my local firefox.
