    I'm connected to the internet via a mikrotik server network. Recently, I read about that scaring application named Cain & Abel and all the capabilities it offered for malicious users. I don't know if anyone on my network is using or even aware of such application but my questions are: 1- How to protect myself from this program? 2- How to know if someone using such application against me? 3- Is Tor Bundle capable of protecting me from Cain & Abel? 4- If I filled my e-mail password via SSL page, Can Cain & Abel collect it? 5- Is it safe to use SKYPE or Yahoo Messenger voice chat if some one using Cain & Abel on my network?

  • What's the right way to create a Ubuntu user whose home directory is /var/www/SITE?

    First of, I need to state I'm a complete ignorant when it comes to server administration on Ubuntu, and I'm doing what I can. I have been trying to do this for hours with no luck. Basically, I want to create a Ubuntu user whose home directory is /var/www/SITE, and prefered it is chroot'd to it. The chroot part is not so important right now, as first I prefer to make anything work. The user should be able to upload files here and the webserver (www-data user?) should be able to pick them up with no problem. I was able to create the user and give it the home directory /var/www/SITE. (the user is "anders"). I gave him a password, and "anders" can connect to FTP just fine and upload files. But here's where things don't work: While my user can upload files to that /var/www/SITE directory, when I access the webpage on my browser I get a Forbidden error. Note that anders is also a member of the www-data group. I can fix this by running sudo chmod g+s /var/www/SITE/* anders -R but this is of course not ideal. Ideally the files should "work" as soon as I upload them. What's the right way to fix this? If it matters (don't think so), I'm editing my files in Coda 2 and anders is the user for it.

Het leuke van interim zijn is dat een klus een keer afloopt. Ik heb heel bewust gekozen voor het leven als freelancer: ik wil graag heel veel verschillende mensen en organisaties leren kennen. Dit werk is daar bij uitstek geschikt voor! Immers: bij iedere klus breng ik niet alleen nieuwe ideeën en kennis maar ik leer zelf ook iedere keer ontzettend veel. Die kennis kan ik dan weer gebruiken bij een vervolgklus en op die manier verspreid ik die kennis onder de bedrijven in Nederland. En er is niets leukers dan zien dat wat ik meebreng een organisatie naar een ander niveau brengt! Iedere keer een ander bedrijf zoeken houdt in dat ik iedere keer weg moet gaan bij een organisatie. Het lastige daarvan is het juiste moment te vinden. Van buitenaf gezien is dat lastig in te schatten: wanneer kan ik niets vernieuwends meer bijdragen en is het tijd om verder te gaan? Wanneer is het tijd om te zeggen dat de organisatie alles weet wat ik ze kan bijbrengen? In mijn huidige klus is dat moment nu aangebroken. In de afgelopen elf maanden heb ik dit bedrijf zien veranderen van een kleine maar enthousiaste groep ontwikkelaars naar een professionele organisatie met ruim twee keer zo veel ontwikkelaars. Dat veranderingsproces is erg leerzaam geweest en ik ben dan ook erg blij dat ik die verandering heb kunnen en mogen begeleiden. Van drie teams met ieder vijf of zes ontwikkelaars naar zes teams met zeven tot acht ontwikkelaars per team groeien betekent dat je je ontwikkelproces heel anders moet insteken. Ook houdt dat in dat je je teams anders moet indelen, dat de organisatie zelf anders gemodelleerd moet worden en dat mensen anders met elkaar om moeten gaan. Om dat voor elkaar te krijgen is er door iedereen heel hard gewerkt, is er een aantal fouten gemaakt, is heel veel van die fouten geleerd en is uiteindelijk een vrijwel nieuw bedrijf ontstaan. Het is tijd om dit bedrijf te verlaten. Ik ben benieuwd waar ik hierna terecht kom: ik ben aan het rondkijken naar mogelijkheden. Ik weet wèl: het bedrijf waar ik naar op zoek ben, is een bedrijf dat openstaat voor veranderingen. Veranderingen, maar dan wel met het oog voor het individu; mensen staan immers centraal in de software ontwikkeling! Ik heb er in ieder geval weer zin in!

    Hello, I have a OpenLDAP Database and it holds some project objects that look like dn: cn=Proj1,ou=Project,ou=ua,dc=org cn: Proj1 objectClass: top objectClass: posixGroup member: 001ag member: 002ag System: ABEL System: PCx Budget: ABEL:1000000:0.3 Budget: PCx:300000:0.3 One can see that the Budget attribute is a ":"-separated string, where the first part holds the name of the system the budget is for, the second part holds some budget (which may change every month) and the last entry is a conversion factor for the budget of that system. Seeing this, I thought this is bad database design, since attribute values should always be atomic. But how can I improve that in LDAP, so that I can do a direct ldapsearch or a direct ldapmodify of the budget of System "ABEL" instead of writing a script, that will have to parse and split the ":"-separated string?

  • Restore using time machine from an macbook to an macbook pro (first intel)

    Hello.. My girlfriend have Macbook 10.6.3, the first plastic version. the screen broke an its at service store now. In the mean time, i have tried to restore from hers TM backup to my old macbook pro 10.6.3 (the first intel version). Everything seems to work out fine, but when its finish, it says reboot, but nothing happens. When i hold down the power button, powering down, and starts again, its come up with the grey roll down screen "you need to restart your machine again" in different languages. I have tried the restore procedure over again 2 times, and every time it ends up like this... Anyone have a suggestion what to do ? Thanks - Anders.

  • Missing disc when installing windows 7

    Hi, when I was installing windows 7 on my new bought computer it asked me on which disc I would like to install the OS on, either the 1 tera byte disc or the ssd disc, I chose to install it on the ssd disc. But now when I have installed the OS, the 1 tera byte disc isn't visible in "my computer" and I don't know how to access it, I didn't do anything strange in the installation, that by the way is idiot secure. So my question, what do you think have happend and how do you believe that this issue is solved? Regards Anders

  • How to get NUnit information into CruiseControl.Net 1.5 after NCover has run NUnit?

    Hi all, I've installed NCover 3.4 on my CruiseControl 1.5 and after some tinking, I've got the coverage reports shown in my cleanly installed CC. I can't see the test results however (and never could after installing CC Net 1.5, as I recall 1.4 it 'just worked'). How do I get the unit test results from NCover displayed in CC.net?     Hi all, I wish to create a view like <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.DateTime?>" %> but I get an error saying that DateTime must be a reference type in order to use for parameter TModel. Fair enough, but I google plenty of examples that implement just what I try to achieve. Any clues as to what I need to change/install/update? Any comments welcome, Anders, Denmark

  • Non blocking IO call from Django controller from a Windows service

  • Address bar showing long URL

    I recently upgraded my hosting account to Deluxe where I can host multiple websites. I added a domain name and created a folder in the root directory giving it the same name as my domain name and uploaded my files. Now when I navigate the site the address bar shows: 'http://mywebsite/mywebsite/default.aspx' I want it to display: 'http://mywebsite/default.aspx' My thinking in creating folders that match the domain names is to keep them somewhat organized; never intended to have my domain names listed twice in the address bar.

  • Bind the windows key to Lubuntu start menu

    I am running Lubuntu 11.10. By default the main menu is bound to Alt+F1 (A-F1) which works. Here is the relevant code from ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml <keybind key="A-F1"> <action name="Execute"> <command>lxpanelctl menu</command> </action> </keybind> This works. When I hit Alt+F1, I can see the start menu. If I change the keys to "Windows key + M" (W-m), I can pull up the start menu using Win+M <keybind key="W-m"> <action name="Execute"> <command>lxpanelctl menu</command> </action> </keybind> However, I cannot bind the start menu to the Windows key alone. If I try replacing "W-m" by "W", the "W" alphabet key gets bound to the start menu. If I try "W-" nothing happens, I have tried the "Super" option too but to no avail. How can I bind the Lubuntu main menu to the windows Key? I have been through some relevant lubuntu questions, like this one, which tries to do the opposite. How do I unbind Super key from menu in Lubuntu

    I recently purchased one of those domain names like del.icio.us. While registering I found that delicious.com was being used. Argument: I found that delicious.com belonged to the same category as my to-be website. It served premium delicious dishes. Counter Argument: My to-be domain though belonging to the same category, specialized in serving free but delicious dishes or in giving out links(affiliate) to other sites serving premium delicious dishes. Additional Counter Arguments: 1.delicious.com was not in English. 2.the del.icio.us in my domain name though having the same spelling, is not going to be used in the same fashion. For eg.(this may not make sense, because the names have been changed)the d in delicious on my website actually stands for the greek letter Delta(?/d) and since internationalized domains are still not easily typable, I am going for the english equivalent.The prefix holds importance for the theme of the service which my website intends to offer. My Question: Can I use the domain name del.icio.us for my website? How are these kinds of matters dealt? (The domain names used are fictitious. And I have already registered the domain but have not started using it.I chanced upon this domain name because it was short, easy to remember and suited the theme of my website.)

  • TypeScript first impressions

    Anders published a video of his new project today, which aims at creating a superset of JavaScript, that compiles down to regular current JavaScript. Anders is a tremendously clever guy, and it always shows in his work. There is much to like in the enterprise (good code completion, refactoring and adoption of the module pattern instead of namespaces to name three), but a few things made me rise an eyebrow. First, there is no mention of CoffeeScript or Dart, but he does talk briefly about Script# and GWT. This is probably because the target audience seems to be the same as the audience for the latter two, i.e. developers who are more comfortable with statically-typed languages such as C# and Java than dynamic languages such as JavaScript. I don’t think he’s aiming at JavaScript developers. Classes and interfaces, although well executed, are not especially appealing. Second, as any code generation tool (and this is true of CoffeeScript as well), you’d better like the generated code. I didn’t, unfortunately. The code that I saw is not the code I would have written. What’s more, I didn’t always find the TypeScript code especially more expressive than what it gets compiled to. I also have a few questions. Is it possible to duck-type interfaces? For example, if I have an IPoint2D interface with x and y coordinates, can I pass any object that has x and y into a function that expects IPoint2D or do I need to necessarily create a class that implements that interface, and new up an instance that explicitly declares its contract? The appeal of dynamic languages is the ability to make objects as you go. This needs to be kept intact. More technical: why are generated variables and functions prefixed with _ rather than the $ that the EcmaScript spec recommends for machine-generated variables? In conclusion, while this is a good contribution to the set of ideas around JavaScript evolution, I don’t expect a lot of adoption outside of the devoted Microsoft developers, but maybe some influence on the language itself. But I’m often wrong. I would certainly not use it because I disagree with the central motivation for doing this: Anders explicitly says he built this because “writing application-scale JavaScript is hard”. I would restate that “writing application-scale JavaScript is hard for people who are used to statically-typed languages”. The community has built a set of good practices over the last few years that do scale quite well, and many people are successfully developing and maintaining impressive applications directly in JavaScript. I signed up for AWS and while signing up for the free tier of S3, i found this As part of AWS Free Usage Tier, you can get started with Amazon S3 for free. Upon sign-up, new AWS customers receive 5 GB of Amazon S3 storage, 20,000 Get Requests, 2,000 Put Requests, 15GB of bandwidth in and 15GB of bandwidth out each month for one year. source:aws.amazon.com , emphasis mine. 20,000 GET requests & 2000 puts mean , 20,000 page views(max) and 2000 file uploads per month. Isn't that lower than what App Engine offers 43,200,000 requests per day.Am I missing some thing, please help.

  • Accessing a Web Service: Learning Resource needed

    I have been searching for resources to learn (Java) Web Services. Although I have found a lot of resources and tutorials on JWS, I am confused with the version numbers, the abbreviations and Metro. Plus the last update to Metro was in 2008. Is it a worthwile thing to learn? I wanted to learn how to access Web Services, since an upcoming project is about accessing one. I have some experience with OAuth on Twitter(using code available). Things I know about the project: I have to access a Web Service. Java is the preferred platform to use(Although I know I can use any). Axis can be used to access the Web Service(I have never used Axis) I have a meeting scheduled to learn more, but I sure don't want to look silly since I am no Java expert, have never created or accessed Web Services using Java. My Questions: 1.Can someone point me to a tutorial which will help me learn how to access a already running Web Service (Preferably SOAP(?), not REST. It's XML based) 2. Will you recommend using PHP or Python to do the work of accessing the web service? I am expecting a lot of nay saying, but I hope I get some answers too. I will clarify things if needed.

  • OOP oriented PHP app source code samples and advice

    The day I have been dreading has arrived. I never felt OOP or good software design was important(I knew they were important, but I thought I could manage without them.). However having read otherwise almost everywhere on the interwebs, I started dreading the day when my client would ask me for new features in an existing app. The day has come and the pain is unbearable! I have never coded my PHP websites "properly"(PHP is my primary language and the bulk of my work. I am learning Python (using web2py)) I take care that the website doesn't fall apart in a daily use scenario. I code pages like I was creating a list of static html files with bits of "magic code" in each of them(this bugs me a lot). How do I make the whole app more or less a single object? For eg. How do I design the object model for an invoicing app? I use a lot of functions for doing any particular thing in the same fashion throughout the app(for eg. validation, generating ids, calculating taxes etc.). I know the basics of OOP in general. Can anyone point me to source code samples of functional apps written in php? Or can someone provide pointers so I can recode my existing apps in a more modular way.

  • Preventing Duplicates on Google

    I am currently using a rewrite rule to enable access to .php pages, without using the php extension. However to prevent old links from breaking, the pages can still be accessed via links containing the .php extension too. For eg. domain.com/page.php can now be accessed at domain.com/page All the links on the website now use domain.com/page type links within the site. However older incoming links will still link to the .php pages, meaning Google will index both pages and mark them as duplicate. I have two plans to remedy the situation. Use a php 301 redirect: When a page is accessed with the .php extension, I can redirect each page individually using a 301 redirect using php Using Canonical: Place a canonical tag on each page, pointing to the ".php" less version My Question: Are both methods equally efficacious in preventing Google from indexing my ".php" pages? Which method should be preferred, by convention or otherwise?

  • How to manage a Closed Source High-Risk Project?

    I am currently planning to develop a J2EE website and wish to bring in 1 developer and 1 web designer to assist me. The project is a financial app with a niche market. I plan to keep the source closed . However, I fear that my would-be employees could easily copy the codebase and use it /sell it to a third party especially when they switch jobs. The app development will take 4-6months and perhaps more and I may have to bring in people after the app goes live. How do I keep the source to myself. Are there techniques companies use to guard their source. I foresee disabling pendrives and dvd writers on my development machines, but uploading data or attaching the code in one's mail would still be possible. My question is incomplete. But programmers who have been in my situation, please advice. How should I go about this? Building a team, maintaining code-secrecy,etc. I am looking forward to sign a secrecy contract with the employees if needed too. (Please add relevant tags) Update Thank you for all the answers. I certainly won't be disabling all USB ports and DVD writers now. But I think I should be logging activity(How exactly should I do that?) I am wary of scalpers who would join and then run off with the existing code. I haven't met any, but I have been advised to be wary of them. I would include a secrecy clause, but given this is a startup with almost no funding and in a highly competitive business niche with bigger players in the field, I doubt I would be able to detect or pursue any scalpers. How do I hire people I trust, when I don't know them personally. Their resume will be helpful but otherwise trust will develop only with time. But finally even if they do run away with the code, it is service that matters after the sale is made. So I am not really worried for the long term.

  • Microsoft.Office.Interop.MSProject - why are my files always locked (by me!) when I try to open them

    Hi all, I'm trying to use Interop to manipulate MS Project 2003 (MPP) files. My problem is that MS Project reports that the files is already opened by another user (me!) and that I can open it only as read-only. Obviously, I've tried to restart studio, then windows (xp) but with no effect. The file attribute for Readonly is cleared on the file. Any suggestions for what I might try?!
