  • weird problem with bash

    I recently changed my .bashrc and tweaked how my PS1 looks, but now it has a very wierd problem, before the end of the line in terminal (about 2 3rds of the way in) it jumps back to the begining of the line like so: e before itarcath@Highgate][~/.gconf/apps/gedit-2/preferences] how long can a command b My first though was was that it wasnt getting the terminal size properly but tput cols returns the correct value.   • unable to mount disks in usb dvd drive

    I have 2 USB DVD drives. One that I borrowed from work which I have been testing with which works fine for me, which is why I brought one of myself. When I try and mount my new dvd drive this happens: [18:06:45][arcath@londinium][~] sudo mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/dvd/ mount: special device /dev/sr0 does not exist /dev/sr0 is only in the list when the drive is attached and it works on other machines using the same cables so it must be something with my server. The server is running Ubuntu 10.10 server

  • Gwibber doesnt launch post upgrade

    i updated my pc from ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 and one of the things i was looking forward too was the "me menu" and gwibber.   • Using WSUS to update machines not on the domain

    I have a WSUS server providing updates for for the computers on my domain. We also bring allot of machines back to our office and run windows update on them as build image, this means that we end up downloading the same updates over and over again. Is there anyway to get a machine to download its updates from our WSUS Server? i found that theres something running on port 8530 but its just an empty document, in fact every folder listed in IIS config returns a blank document anyone know if this is possible? and how i would do it?

I remember seeing a piece of software that let you see what networks where in range and where they fell in the spectrum, aswell as any other sources.   • DNS Provider/Domain Registrar

    I have a whole bunch of domains with my current web host and when i got the package i got it with a few gig of web space and a bunch of mysql databases but times have changed and now and i don't use the hosting im paying for, and i just my host as a DNS server to forward everything else where. The process of removing the host is going to require me to transfer all the domains to another package etc... which is going to cause disruption so my question is: Who is the best provider for DNS only? I don't want any space or mail just someone to hold the domains and let me set any DNS options I want (A/MX/CNAME records for everything, even possibly the ability to point my domains at my own DNS server).

  • Mount a share on a Mac using a login hook

    I have a script that mounts a Samba share to a folder on the desktop, it runs no problem but when its setup as a LoginHook it doesn't mount the folder. Does anyone have a working login hook that mounts a share that they can post? Or know any issues with mounting shares during login?   • convert decrypted .vobs to .avi with ffmpeg on ubuntu

    I have a .vob file that has bee ripped from a dvd, when I watch the .vob its very good quality video and 5.1 english audio but when I use ffmpeg it has rubbish video and mono french audio. That was using this command: ffmpeg -i /samba/ripping/vobs/12161840#2.vob -f avi /samba/ripping/avis/test.avi I've tried a few different variations on that but it never comes back with anything good just bigger files with bad video and incorrect sound.   • Graphics Tablet as input device for Windows 8

    Having used Windows 8 (and 8.1) on a touch screen I know how much better it is than with a mouse. I've seen people with graphics tables on 7 use them to scroll their browser etc... so I was wondering if I could use one as a touch screen for windows? and if did would the 8 features of swipe in from the sides etc... work properly? Just incase brand is an issue in this I was looking at getting a Wacom.

    Im using squid as a reverse proxy to host multiple web servers on one internet IP. It works fine and has been doing so for the past few months. I have just noticed that every request sent to my servers is logged as comming from the squid servers IP address. Is there anyway to make squid pass the originating IP to the web servers?

  • Javascript on a desktop wallpaper (XP)

    I have a desktop wallpaper shipped out by my domain, it's a HTML wallpaper that displays information like today's date, etc. It also has the internet usage rules. Using jquery I've made it so that the rules are hidden and displayed when you click on the section heading. The JS runs fine and it hides the rules, but it appears that once the desktop "loses focus" the javascript stops and clicking the headings does nothing. Anyone know a way to keep javascript running?

  • Rake tasks in other files

    Im trying to use rake in a project, and if I put everything into Rakefile it will be huge and hard to read/find things, so I tried to stick each namesapce in its own file in lib/rake, i added this to the top of my rake file: Dir['#{File.dirname(__FILE__)}/lib/rake/*.rake'].map { |f| require f } it loads the file no problem, but doesn't have the tasks. I only have one .rake file as a test for now called "servers.rake" and it looks like this: namespace :server do task :test do puts "test" end end so when I run rake server:test id expect to see one line appear saying "test", instead I get rake aborted! Don't know how to build task 'server:test' at first I thought my codes wrong but if I copy the contents of lib/rake/servers.rake into Rakefile it works fine. How do I get rake tasks to work that are in another file?
