  • My computer has begun to restart after I upgraded

    After updating to Ubuntu 11.04. My computer started to turn off and reboot. This happens about every half hour, I think there is a tendency to happen when I work with multiple applications at once. It is both my Desktop and Labtop.   • JCP.Next.3 working group meetings have begun

    As mentioned in the blog earlier this week, the third JSR in the JCP.Next effort, JSR 358, A major revision of the Java Community Process, was approved by the JCP EC to continue development earlier this year.  This JSR will modify the Java Specification Participation Agreement (JSPA) as well as the Process Document, and will tackle a large number of complex issues, many of them postponed from JSR 348. For these reasons, the JCP EC (acting as the Expert Group for this JSR), expects to spend a considerable amount of time working on this JSR. The JSPA is defined by the JCP as "a one-year, renewable agreement between the Member and Oracle. The success of the Java community depends upon an open and transparent JCP program. The first EG working meetings have started and  meeting materials and minutes are available on their Java.net project. Last week an IP Working Group commenced and their meeting minutes and materials will also be available in this location; they anticipate meeting on a weekly basis moving forward.  Also see the JSR 358 issue tracker on java.net.  Right now there are 45 issues being discussed.  Join the JSR 358 java.net project to keep up to date on the latest developments.

  • Corona sdk events dispatched with dispatchEvent() are handled directly upon call. Why so?

    I noticed to my surprise that an event created with dispatchEvent(event) gets handled directly when called, and not together with other events at a specific phase of the frame loop. Two main reasons of having an event system are: so that you can call code B from code A, but still want to prioritize code A. to make sure there are no freaky loopedy loops where code A calls code B calls code A ... I wonder what Ansca's rationale behind having events being handled directly this way is. And does Corona handle loopedy loops and other such pitfalls gracefully?   • C++ pointer to different array

    Assume I have an array a and an array b. Both have the same type and size but different values. Now I create 3 or so pointers that point to different elements in a, you could say a[ 0 ], a[ 4 ] and a[ 13 ]. Now if I overwrite a with b via a=b - Where will the pointers point? Do the pointers still point to their original positions in a but the values they point to are now those of b?

    I have been working with MEF for about 2 weeks. I started thinking about what MEF is for, researching to find out how to use MEF, and finally implementing a Host with 3 modules. The contracts are proving to be easy to grasp and the modules are easily managed. Although MEF has a very practical use, I am wondering to what extent? I mean, is everyone going to be rewriting existing applications for extensibility? Yes, that sounds, and is insanely impractical. Rhetorically speaking: how is MEF affecting the current trends in programming? have you begun looking for opportunities to use MEF? have you begun planning a major re-write of an existing app that may benefit from extensibility? That said, my questions are: how do I know when I should plan a new project with extensibility? how will I know if an existing project needs to be re-written for extensibility? Is anyone using MEF?

  • Can a NodeJS webserver handle multiple hostnames on the same IP?

    I have just begun learning NodeJS and LOVE it so far. I have set up a Linux box to run it and, in learning to use the event-driven model, I am curious if I can use a common IP for multiple domain names. Could I point, for example, www.websiteA.com, www.websiteB.com, and www.websiteC.com all to the same IP (node webserver) and then route to the appropriate source files based on the request? Would this cause certain doom when it came to scaling to any reasonable size?
