  • Unable to load DLL 'foo.dll', but only when running through vhost

    - by biozinc
    This is a variation on the old System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'foo.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). problem (where, of course, foo.dll is the name of an actual DLL). The strange part is that I only get this error when I "Run" in VS (2008 if that's relevant). That sits in the MyApp.vhost.exe processes. If I run the actual app in a command line (MyApp.exe) I encounter no errors. The problem extends to unit tests with MSTest. A check on the DLL with DependencyWalker on Foo.dll doesn't show any issues. Any ideas?

  • When should I explicitly specify a StructLayout?

    - by biozinc
    I'm fiddling with calling DLLs from C#, and came across the need to define my own structs. Lots of articles force a sequential layout for the struct with [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] struct Foo ... So, I followed suite, and my programme worked. Now, when I took the line out, it still works. Why do I need it?

  • Long/compound namespaces when using C++/CLI

    - by biozinc
    I'm working on a project where a mixture of C# (95%) and C++/CLI (5%) are used. The namespace naming convention I'm aiming for is the good old Company.Technology.Etc.. This works perfectly fine for C#. Now, can I carry this across to C++ classes? I read here that compound namespaces aren't supported in C++. Am I stuck with the clumsy namespace Company { namespace Technology { namespace Etc { ... } } } in order to stay consistent? Is it worth trying to stay consistent?
