    I don't wanna ask anything here as I have nothing to ask. Instead of that, if I share some useful info here, would you guys mind? If not, then let me proceed. You must have heard about "Back up", the process in which we create backup copies of our crucial data into a file, called BKF (backup) file. Having a valid BKF file, provides security to our data against unwanted data loss or corruption. Whenever such a critical situation takes place, we can restore our BKF file and get our data back (but only if backed up earlier). Do you guys ever thought that why a BKF file gets corrupted? What could be the reasons which make the BKF file corrupted or inaccessible? One day while googling, I found a blog post named as: Reasons of BKF file corruption. I read it, it was very informative. In this blog, I came to know about the reasons for corruption in BKF files. I shared the blog here so that users can read it and clear their doubts of BKF file corruption.   • Multiple .bkf files created in Backupexec 12.5 or 2010 related to heavy I/O?

    Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone who has used backupexec 12.5 or 2010 have ever experienced multiple .bkf files created for a single job. To describe what I mean by multiple files, the .bkf are being created with random file sizes under 2GB even though I've assigned the setting to chop the file after 10GB size. Some jobs will create 20x .bkf files in 1 job with file chunks ranging from 50MB to 800MB sizes. Is this is a sign of heavy I/O issues? Bandwidth limitations? I'm not sure, I'm here to seek some advices and suggestions. I've setup another backup server with the same exact settings and they seem to create a new .bkf file when 10GB limit has been reached. Although I am backing up different machines but I know my settings are an exact match to the problematic or atleast I think it's a problem.

  • Directly reading a LTO tape drive

    On our server (M$ 2003) is it possible to directly read our LTO 4 tape drive and copy the entire ntbackup created bkf file on it to an external hard disk? (Is the tape backup even stored on a tape as a bkf file, I’m going off when we only used external usb HD’s.)

  • ntbackup with two backup plans?

    Is it possible to use ntbackup.exe (Windows XP SP3, 32) with two incremental backup plans? An example: "My Documents": every day, incrementally to D:\My_Documents.bkf Drive C: every month, incrementally to D:\All.bkf As far as I understand it, ntbackup.exe marks files as having been backed up in the file system. Thus, two incremental backup plans would interfere in a bad way. So, I assume that the answer to my question is: No But maybe I'm wrong...

  • Exchange backup verification shows no files

    [SBS2003SP2] If i read the exhange log it shows the backup contains no files just folders and the total size seems to be Ok. I i try to restore the folders are empty... But the 14 files that where backupped dissapeared in the verification log?! Other backups on the same medium turned out to be fine. Any idea what's wrong here?   • Scheduled Task: Directory cleanup using windows batch script

    I have a shared disk that I would like to clean up once per week using a scheduled task of some sort. I would like to use a batch script so that the system admins can easily modify it or reuse it on other directories when needed. The directory has files with multiple file extensions but the ones that need to be deleted end in .bkf and must be over 2 weeks old. Does anyone have a batch script solution for this windows server (not sure which version)?

  • ntbackup workalike for adhoc full backups in Windows 7 thats free and preferably open source

    On windows 2000 and XP machines I used to be able to do the following: ntbackup backup systemstate c: /f e:\backups\machineName\machineName-full+systemstate_200101206.bkf This gave me a full backup of the system that I could use to do a system restore, after doing a barebones OS install. Windows 7 has a great utility for regular backups with alerting and all that stuff. It does not seem to have command line support. I'd like a backup solution for my Windwos 7 systems that has the following features: Is free Is open source (preferebly) Works while the system is booted and leaves the system functional (clonezilla is great for offline backups, and I use that too) Gives me a backup that is suited for a full system restore or partial system restore (ruling out most imaging software even if they could work while the system is booted via some sort of shadow copy voodoo) Can work via the command line Compression would be nice, the ability to pipe output would be better.

  • Encrypt backups with GPG to multiple tapes

    Currently, I use tar to write my backups (ntbackup files) to a tape drive fed by an autoloader. Ex: tar -F /root/advancetape -cvf /dev/st0 *.bkf (/root/advancetape just has the logic to advance to the next tape if there is one available or notify to swap the tapes out) I was recently handed the requirement to encrypt our tape backups. I can easily encrypt the data with no problems using GPG. The problem I'm having is how do I write this to multiple tapes with the same logic that tar uses to advance the tapes once the current one is filled? I cannot write the encrypted file to disk first (2+TB). As far as I can tell, tar will not accept binary input from stdin (it's looking for file names). Any ideas? :(

  • can't backup to a NAS drive as offline schedule task

    I have seen this problem issue discussed in several forums including this one, but could not find a solution. On MS server 2003 I configured a Backup task, the target backup is on a NAS disc (Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110). The backup task is working well as a scheduled task or by a direct command, when I am logged on. It is not working when the user is offline (in this case - Administrator). I already tried the following actions: 1) addressing to the target as network drive (Y:location..), 2)Using UNC instead, 3) making the drive a domain member (the NAS admin S/W allows to define itself as a domain member) The result log message for 1 and 2 is: "The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found." The result log message for 3 is empty file. The schedule task "RUN" command is: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\de-board.bks" /a /d "Set created 2/14/2010 at 5:10 PM" /v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:off /m incremental /j "de-board" /l:s /f "\10.0.0.8\public\Backups\IBMServer\de-board.bkf" 10.0.0.8 is the static IP of the NAS. "Run only if logged on" is NOT marked. Password of the administrator user is set. It is obvious that there is no access to the NAS when the user is logged-out. Do you have any idea how can I solve it? Thanks
