• Take a single snaphot from a webcam with a delay

  I use gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src num-buffers=1 ! jpegenc ! filesink location=$HOME/Desktop/test.jpg to take snapshots. It works well. However in some light situation I need to drop some of the first frames the webcam outputs so that the webcam white balance doesn't provide me with an impossible to view image. Do you know how could I do that? With the GUI of cheese I can do it without any problem, but I need to automate this via CLI. Many thanks.

• Distribute outgoing connections among multiple IPs configured on the same NIC

  I have a NIC with 2 aliases on it. The network interface has 3 IPs configured on it. Think about it like this: i can ping the same server by hitting .100 .101 and .102. I want the source address of the outgoing connections to be distributed among these ip. So if i have 3 opened connections, one connection will have result as having an IP address ending with .100, the other two should result as having as ip addresses .101 and .102. I'm using FreeBSD but I think this question to be Linux-Like wide.

• How to remote install Ubuntu on a server?

  I actually have a server powered by ubuntu 10.10 with my isp custom raid 5 installation. I want raid 10, than i want to reinstall everything. Actually i have access to SSH to the machine, only. I want to reinstall ubuntu on this machine. How can i do it my own? I've already did it with CentOS and trought VNC i had a view on the grapich installer. It was great. What can i do this time? • PHP's page generation time takes 0.01s. 1/0.01 = 100; however i'm having problems reaching that number of request per seconds. Why?

  On average, my PHP page generation time is 10ms. So i should be able to execute 100 requests one after the other one (using a single core on the server, since that php is not multithreaded). However, i'm having problems reaching 50 pages per seconds. As of now i do 25 on avg., with a medium load. The application is really light, it consist in a read (<5KB) from a pool of SSDs, some read queries solved by indexes. Where should i look to solve this bottleneck?

• What is the best way to browse the web safely? [closed]

  At the recent pwnown we saw every single browser, from IE to Chrome, miserably hacked. That scares me. How should we browse the Internet safely but continuing to enjoy it? (using lynx is not an option) Virtual machines? Different users with non-administrative privileges? Keep the work and "Facebook" on 2 separate machines? (or on 2 hard disks, invisible each other?) I think that they should write a book on the matter.
