  • When Agile goes wrong

    - by Chepech
Im writing an Agile course for some of the new guys we are on-boarding recently and I want to add a cautionary tale so they understand that Agile is not meant for all projects. My problem is that because of the nature of the projects I work in Agile has worked pretty well so far so I can't honestly point out what can go wrong and why when you use it in the wrong kind of project. Does anyone have a good real life example of a project where an Agile approach (e.g. Scurm) simply didn't worked out?

  • JavaFX Datagrid

    - by Chepech
Hi All. Im in the verge of starting a new RIA development. We've been using Flex/Flash for the last 2 years but we were considering using a more OS approach so we though giving JavaFX a try since it seams the only solid option available. However after a couple of days of research we found out that there is not such thing as a datagrid for it, at least not in the core API. For those unfamiliar with Flex, a Datagrid is a component that allows you to display a collection of data in column-row layout (much like a HTML Table on steroids). The beauty of it is that you only need to worry about the data itself as the component does pretty much the rest (sorting, column dragging, etc). Im afraid to ask... but is there something slightly similar for JavaFX? We require nothing as fancy as Flex Datagrids/AdvancedDatagrids, we only require a easy, straight forward way to display grids of data that are able to have a little of interaction like clicking, sorting and that are able to display images, buttons, etc. without having to download a ton of different jars. If there isn´t something out there... This would be a shot in the back of the head to the idea of giving javaFx the chance to compete with flash on our project (which is sad). I really cant believe the SUN people didnt include something like this on the core API...

  • DataGrid - Edit the selected row when a button is clicked.

    - by Chepech
Hi all. I have a very simple DataGrid with 2 columns, some thing like this: <mx:DataGrid id="grid" > <mx:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="name" headerText="Name"/> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="date" headerText="Date"/> </mx:columns> </mx:DataGrid> What Im trying to do is to activate the edition of the selected row when the user clicks a button. So far I've been unable to find any example of how to do this. I already tried 6 or 7 different approaches but non works. Does any one has a clue how to do this? How do you get the selected row (NOT selectedItem) of a DataGrid and how can you: Change the ItemRenderEditor or ItemRenderer on the fly of just that row. Or enable the edition of that specific row without clicking it. This are the questions that I've been unable to answer Help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Good sources to learn about Java trends.

    - by Chepech
Hi all. Can some one recommend a couple of good websites/bloogs/RSS/Podcasts where someone interested in Java can keep himself informed on the latest trends? (I was thinking in something like Ajaxian.com for Java) As always, help will be eternally appreciated.

  • Prevent Method call without Exception using @PreAuthorize Annotation

    - by Chepech
Hi all. We are using Spring Security 3. We have a custom implementation of PermissionEvaluator that has this complex algorithm to grant or deny access at method level on the application. To do that we add a @PreAuthorize annotation to the method we want to protect (obviously). Everything is fine on that. However the behavior that we are looking for is that if a hasPermission call is denied, the protected method call only needs to be skipped, instead we are getting a 403 error each time that happens. Any ideas how to prevent that? You can find a different explanation of the problem here; AccessDeniedException handling during methodSecurityInterception
