  • Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock problem in chrome, not registering

    - by user270399
    Hello! I am using Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock to register a variable that tells the site to show something for the user (Don't need to get in to what is show). I am going to try to use RegisterStartupScript instead and see if i get any other result, i will get back on that. In my site i use jquery to look for that variable and do something if it exists. This works very well in IE 6,7,8 & FF but not in Chrome. In Chrome it works sometimes but most of the time it does not work, the variable does not get inserted on the page. The variable is beeing inserted in the Page_PreRender. Someone that has got a workaround for this or have experienced the same problem? Thanks

    How can I register a javascript code a page? I want to put th javascript function to the aspx.page; I thing it might be like that; string strJS= "<script language = javascript> (function(images, elements) { var fetchImages = function() { if(images.length > 0) { var numImages = 10; while(images.length > 0 && numImages-- > 0) { // assuming your elements are <img> document.getElementById(elements.shift()).src = images.shift(); // if not you could also set the background (or backgroundImage) css property // document.getElementById(elements.shift()).style.background = "url(" + images.shift() + ")"; } setTimeout(fetchImages, 5000); } } // bind to window onload window.onload = fetchImages; // if you're going to use something like jquery then do something like this instead //$(fetchImages); }(['url1', 'url2', 'url3'], ['img1', 'img2', 'img3'])) </script>"; Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(ui_SUBMVGInfo), "SmartPenCheck", strJS); The second Questin is; ... ... g(ctrlIDBirthPlaceCode).onchange(); }} </script> <script language = javascript> var url1 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Adiniz'; var url2 ='http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Soyadiniz'; var url3 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_tarih'; var url4 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Adiniz'; var url5 ='http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Soyadiniz'; var url6 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_tarih'; var url7 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Adiniz'; var url8 ='http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Soyadiniz'; var url9 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_tarih'; var url10 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Adiniz'; var url11 ='http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_Soyadiniz'; var url12 = 'http://localhost:3645/ImageHandler.ashx?FormId=XXX.11&FieldId=s1_tarih'; function(images, elements) {var fetchImages = function() {if(images.length > 0) {var numImages = 5; while(images.length > 0 && numImages-- > 0) { document.getElementById(elements.shift()).src = images.shift(); }setTimeout(fetchImages, 5000); }}window.onload = fetchImages; }(['+url1+', '+url2+', '+url3+','+url4+', '+url5+', '+url6+','+url7+', '+url8+', '+url9+','+url10+', '+url11+', '+url12+'], ['ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_CustomerNameImage', 'ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_CustomerSurNameImage', 'ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_MaritalStatusImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_SexImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_BirthDateImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_BirthPlaceCodeImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_BirthPlaceImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_IdNationalityImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_MotherOldSurNameImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_TaxNoImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_CitizenshipNoImage','ui_taskFormControl$ctl03$ctl00$ctl03$ui_HomePhoneImage'])); </script> <script> var ui_BirthPlaceCode_a='Intertech.Utility'; var ui_BirthPlaceCode_c='Intertech.Utility.Common'; var ui_BirthPlaceCode_sbn=''; ... ..   • At what asp.net page event are clientIDs assigned?

    - by user191272
    I want to do something like this: Panel divPanel = new Panel(); divPanel.ID = "divPanel"; this.Page.Controls.Add(divPanel); string script = "function alertID(){alert("the id is: "+divPanel.ClientID+");}"; this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "scripttests", script); But when I put this code in page_load, I don't get the full id, which is ctl00_ContentMain_divPanel, I just get divPanel. Is there another event I should use? How do I make this work?

  • Programmatically modifying an embedded resource before registering/referencing it on the page

    - by Jimock
    Hi All, Firstly, "Modifying" may be the wrong term, I see a few people have posted online just asking whether they can actually modify an embedded resource. What I am wanting to to, is use a resource in my assembly as a kind of template which I would do a find and replace on before registering it on the page - is this possible? For example; say I have a few lines of jQuery as an embedded resource in my assembly and in this script I am referencing a CSS class name that can be set by the front-end programmer. Since I do not know what the CSS class will be until implementation, is there a way of going through the embedded resource and replacing, say, $myclass$ with ThisClassName. Any help would be appreciated, if it's not possible then at least tell me so I can stop chasing my tail. Cheers, James

  • RegisterStartupScript doesn't appear to be working on page postback within update panel

    - by Jen
    OK - so am working on a system that uses a custom datepicker control (I know there are other ones out there.. but for consistency would like to understand why my current issue is happening and fix it). So its a custom user control with a textbox and on Page_PreRender does this: protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { string clientScript = @" $(function(){ $('#" + this.Date1.ClientID + @"').datepicker({dateFormat: 'dd/mm/yy', constrainInput: true}); });"; Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), this.ClientID, clientScript, true); //Type t = this.GetType(); //if (!Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered(t, this.ClientID)) //{ // Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(t, this.ClientID, clientScript, true); //} } Ignore commented out stuff - that was me trying something different - didn't help. My issue is that this all works fine when I load the page. But if I select something from a dropdownlist causing a page postback - when I click into my date fields they stop working. As in I should be able to click into the textbox and a nice calendar control appears. But after postback there is no nice calendar control appearing! It's currently all wrapped (in the hosting page) inside an update panel. So I comment out the update panel stuff and the dates are working after page postback. So it appears to be something related to that update panel. Any suggestions please? Thanks!!

  • Rendering ASP.NET Script References into the Html Header

    - by Rick Strahl
    One thing that I’ve come to appreciate in control development in ASP.NET that use JavaScript is the ability to have more control over script and script include placement than ASP.NET provides natively. Specifically in ASP.NET you can use either the ClientScriptManager or ScriptManager to embed scripts and script references into pages via code. This works reasonably well, but the script references that get generated are generated into the HTML body and there’s very little operational control for placement of scripts. If you have multiple controls or several of the same control that need to place the same scripts onto the page it’s not difficult to end up with scripts that render in the wrong order and stop working correctly. This is especially critical if you load script libraries with dependencies either via resources or even if you are rendering referenced to CDN resources. Natively ASP.NET provides a host of methods that help embedding scripts into the page via either Page.ClientScript or the ASP.NET ScriptManager control (both with slightly different syntax): RegisterClientScriptBlock Renders a script block at the top of the HTML body and should be used for embedding callable functions/classes. RegisterStartupScript Renders a script block just prior to the </form> tag and should be used to for embedding code that should execute when the page is first loaded. Not recommended – use jQuery.ready() or equivalent load time routines. RegisterClientScriptInclude Embeds a reference to a script from a url into the page. RegisterClientScriptResource Embeds a reference to a Script from a resource file generating a long resource file string All 4 of these methods render their <script> tags into the HTML body. The script blocks give you a little bit of control by having a ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ of the document location which gives you some flexibility over script placement and precedence. Script includes and resource url unfortunately do not even get that much control – references are simply rendered into the page in the order of declaration. The ASP.NET ScriptManager control facilitates this task a little bit with the abililty to specify scripts in code and the ability to programmatically check what scripts have already been registered, but it doesn’t provide any more control over the script rendering process itself. Further the ScriptManager is a bear to deal with generically because generic code has to always check and see if it is actually present. Some time ago I posted a ClientScriptProxy class that helps with managing the latter process of sending script references either to ClientScript or ScriptManager if it’s available. Since I last posted about this there have been a number of improvements in this API, one of which is the ability to control placement of scripts and script includes in the page which I think is rather important and a missing feature in the ASP.NET native functionality. Handling ScriptRenderModes One of the big enhancements that I’ve come to rely on is the ability of the various script rendering functions described above to support rendering in multiple locations: /// <summary> /// Determines how scripts are included into the page /// </summary> public enum ScriptRenderModes { /// <summary> /// Inherits the setting from the control or from the ClientScript.DefaultScriptRenderMode /// </summary> Inherit, /// Renders the script include at the location of the control /// </summary> Inline, /// <summary> /// Renders the script include into the bottom of the header of the page /// </summary> Header, /// <summary> /// Renders the script include into the top of the header of the page /// </summary> HeaderTop, /// <summary> /// Uses ClientScript or ScriptManager to embed the script include to /// provide standard ASP.NET style rendering in the HTML body. /// </summary> Script, /// <summary> /// Renders script at the bottom of the page before the last Page.Controls /// literal control. Note this may result in unexpected behavior /// if /body and /html are not the last thing in the markup page. /// </summary> BottomOfPage } This enum is then applied to the various Register functions to allow more control over where scripts actually show up. Why is this useful? For me I often render scripts out of control resources and these scripts often include things like a JavaScript Library (jquery) and a few plug-ins. The order in which these can be loaded is critical so that jQuery.js always loads before any plug-in for example. Typically I end up with a general script layout like this: Core Libraries- HeaderTop Plug-ins: Header ScriptBlocks: Header or Script depending on other dependencies There’s also an option to render scripts and CSS at the very bottom of the page before the last Page control on the page which can be useful for speeding up page load when lots of scripts are loaded. The API syntax of the ClientScriptProxy methods is closely compatible with ScriptManager’s using static methods and control references to gain access to the page and embedding scripts. For example, to render some script into the current page in the header: // Create script block in header ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "hello_function", "function helloWorld() { alert('hello'); }", true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); // Same again - shouldn't be rendered because it's the same id ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "hello_function", "function helloWorld() { alert('hello'); }", true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); // Create a second script block in header ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "hello_function2", "function helloWorld2() { alert('hello2'); }", true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); // This just calls ClientScript and renders into bottom of document ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterStartupScript(this,typeof(ControlResources), "call_hello", "helloWorld();helloWorld2();", true); which generates: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head><title> </title> <script type="text/javascript"> function helloWorld() { alert('hello'); } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> function helloWorld2() { alert('hello2'); } </script> </head> <body> … <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ helloWorld();helloWorld2();//]]> </script> </form> </body> </html> Note that the scripts are generated into the header rather than the body except for the last script block which is the call to RegisterStartupScript. In general I wouldn’t recommend using RegisterStartupScript – ever. It’s a much better practice to use a script base load event to handle ‘startup’ code that should fire when the page first loads. So instead of the code above I’d actually recommend doing: ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "call_hello", "$().ready( function() { alert('hello2'); });", true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); assuming you’re using jQuery on the page. For script includes from a Url the following demonstrates how to embed scripts into the header. This example injects a jQuery and jQuery.UI script reference from the Google CDN then checks each with a script block to ensure that it has loaded and if not loads it from a server local location: // load jquery from CDN ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptInclude(this, typeof(ControlResources), "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js", ScriptRenderModes.HeaderTop); // check if jquery loaded - if it didn't we're not online string scriptCheck = @"if (typeof jQuery != 'object') document.write(unescape(""%3Cscript src='{0}' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E""));"; string jQueryUrl = ClientScriptProxy.Current.GetWebResourceUrl(this, typeof(ControlResources), ControlResources.JQUERY_SCRIPT_RESOURCE); ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "jquery_register", string.Format(scriptCheck,jQueryUrl),true, ScriptRenderModes.HeaderTop); // Load jquery-ui from cdn ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptInclude(this, typeof(ControlResources), "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.7.2/jquery-ui.min.js", ScriptRenderModes.Header); // check if we need to load from local string jQueryUiUrl = ResolveUrl("~/scripts/jquery-ui-custom.min.js"); ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "jqueryui_register", string.Format(scriptCheck, jQueryUiUrl), true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); // Create script block in header ClientScriptProxy.Current.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(ControlResources), "hello_function", "$().ready( function() { alert('hello'); });", true, ScriptRenderModes.Header); which in turn generates this HTML: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> if (typeof jQuery != 'object') document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='/WestWindWebToolkitWeb/WebResource.axd?d=DIykvYhJ_oXCr-TA_dr35i4AayJoV1mgnQAQGPaZsoPM2LCdvoD3cIsRRitHKlKJfV5K_jQvylK7tsqO3lQIFw2&t=633979863959332352' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script> <title> </title> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.7.2/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> if (typeof jQuery != 'object') document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='/WestWindWebToolkitWeb/scripts/jquery-ui-custom.min.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> $().ready(function() { alert('hello'); }); </script> </head> <body> …</body> </html> As you can see there’s a bit more control in this process as you can inject both script includes and script blocks into the document at the top or bottom of the header, plus if necessary at the usual body locations. This is quite useful especially if you create custom server controls that interoperate with script and have certain dependencies. The above is a good example of a useful switchable routine where you can switch where scripts load from by default – the above pulls from Google CDN but a configuration switch may automatically switch to pull from the local development copies if your doing development for example. How does it work? As mentioned the ClientScriptProxy object mimicks many of the ScriptManager script related methods and so provides close API compatibility with it although it contains many additional overloads that enhance functionality. It does however work against ScriptManager if it’s available on the page, or Page.ClientScript if it’s not so it provides a single unified frontend to script access. There are however many overloads of the original SM methods like the above to provide additional functionality. The implementation of script header rendering is pretty straight forward – as long as a server header (ie. it has to have runat=”server” set) is available. Otherwise these routines fall back to using the default document level insertions of ScriptManager/ClientScript. Given that there is a server header it’s relatively easy to generate the script tags and code and append them to the header either at the top or bottom. I suspect Microsoft didn’t provide header rendering functionality precisely because a runat=”server” header is not required by ASP.NET so behavior would be slightly unpredictable. That’s not really a problem for a custom implementation however. Here’s the RegisterClientScriptBlock implementation that takes a ScriptRenderModes parameter to allow header rendering: /// <summary> /// Renders client script block with the option of rendering the script block in /// the Html header /// /// For this to work Header must be defined as runat="server" /// </summary> /// <param name="control">any control that instance typically page</param> /// <param name="type">Type that identifies this rendering</param> /// <param name="key">unique script block id</param> /// <param name="script">The script code to render</param> /// <param name="addScriptTags">Ignored for header rendering used for all other insertions</param> /// <param name="renderMode">Where the block is rendered</param> public void RegisterClientScriptBlock(Control control, Type type, string key, string script, bool addScriptTags, ScriptRenderModes renderMode) { if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Inherit) renderMode = DefaultScriptRenderMode; if (control.Page.Header == null || renderMode != ScriptRenderModes.HeaderTop && renderMode != ScriptRenderModes.Header && renderMode != ScriptRenderModes.BottomOfPage) { RegisterClientScriptBlock(control, type, key, script, addScriptTags); return; } // No dupes - ref script include only once const string identifier = "scriptblock_"; if (HttpContext.Current.Items.Contains(identifier + key)) return; HttpContext.Current.Items.Add(identifier + key, string.Empty); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); // Embed in header sb.AppendLine("\r\n<script type=\"text/javascript\">"); sb.AppendLine(script); sb.AppendLine("</script>"); int? index = HttpContext.Current.Items["__ScriptResourceIndex"] as int?; if (index == null) index = 0; if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.HeaderTop) { control.Page.Header.Controls.AddAt(index.Value, new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); index++; } else if(renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Header) control.Page.Header.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); else if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.BottomOfPage) control.Page.Controls.AddAt(control.Page.Controls.Count-1,new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); HttpContext.Current.Items["__ScriptResourceIndex"] = index; } Note that the routine has to keep track of items inserted by id so that if the same item is added again with the same key it won’t generate two script entries. Additionally the code has to keep track of how many insertions have been made at the top of the document so that entries are added in the proper order. The RegisterScriptInclude method is similar but there’s some additional logic in here to deal with script file references and ClientScriptProxy’s (optional) custom resource handler that provides script compression /// <summary> /// Registers a client script reference into the page with the option to specify /// the script location in the page /// </summary> /// <param name="control">Any control instance - typically page</param> /// <param name="type">Type that acts as qualifier (uniqueness)</param> /// <param name="url">the Url to the script resource</param> /// <param name="ScriptRenderModes">Determines where the script is rendered</param> public void RegisterClientScriptInclude(Control control, Type type, string url, ScriptRenderModes renderMode) { const string STR_ScriptResourceIndex = "__ScriptResourceIndex"; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(url)) return; if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Inherit) renderMode = DefaultScriptRenderMode; // Extract just the script filename string fileId = null; // Check resource IDs and try to match to mapped file resources // Used to allow scripts not to be loaded more than once whether // embedded manually (script tag) or via resources with ClientScriptProxy if (url.Contains(".axd?r=")) { string res = HttpUtility.UrlDecode( StringUtils.ExtractString(url, "?r=", "&", false, true) ); foreach (ScriptResourceAlias item in ScriptResourceAliases) { if (item.Resource == res) { fileId = item.Alias + ".js"; break; } } if (fileId == null) fileId = url.ToLower(); } else fileId = Path.GetFileName(url).ToLower(); // No dupes - ref script include only once const string identifier = "script_"; if (HttpContext.Current.Items.Contains( identifier + fileId ) ) return; HttpContext.Current.Items.Add(identifier + fileId, string.Empty); // just use script manager or ClientScriptManager if (control.Page.Header == null || renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Script || renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Inline) { RegisterClientScriptInclude(control, type,url, url); return; } // Retrieve script index in header int? index = HttpContext.Current.Items[STR_ScriptResourceIndex] as int?; if (index == null) index = 0; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(256); url = WebUtils.ResolveUrl(url); // Embed in header sb.AppendLine("\r\n<script src=\"" + url + "\" type=\"text/javascript\"></script>"); if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.HeaderTop) { control.Page.Header.Controls.AddAt(index.Value, new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); index++; } else if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.Header) control.Page.Header.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); else if (renderMode == ScriptRenderModes.BottomOfPage) control.Page.Controls.AddAt(control.Page.Controls.Count-1, new LiteralControl(sb.ToString())); HttpContext.Current.Items[STR_ScriptResourceIndex] = index; } There’s a little more code here that deals with cleaning up the passed in Url and also some custom handling of script resources that run through the ScriptCompressionModule – any script resources loaded in this fashion are automatically cached based on the resource id. Raw urls extract just the filename from the URL and cache based on that. All of this to avoid doubling up of scripts if called multiple times by multiple instances of the same control for example or several controls that all load the same resources/includes. Finally RegisterClientScriptResource utilizes the previous method to wrap the WebResourceUrl as well as some custom functionality for the resource compression module: /// <summary> /// Returns a WebResource or ScriptResource URL for script resources that are to be /// embedded as script includes. /// </summary> /// <param name="control">Any control</param> /// <param name="type">A type in assembly where resources are located</param> /// <param name="resourceName">Name of the resource to load</param> /// <param name="renderMode">Determines where in the document the link is rendered</param> public void RegisterClientScriptResource(Control control, Type type, string resourceName, ScriptRenderModes renderMode) { string resourceUrl = GetClientScriptResourceUrl(control, type, resourceName); RegisterClientScriptInclude(control, type, resourceUrl, renderMode); } /// <summary> /// Works like GetWebResourceUrl but can be used with javascript resources /// to allow using of resource compression (if the module is loaded). /// </summary> /// <param name="control"></param> /// <param name="type"></param> /// <param name="resourceName"></param> /// <returns></returns> public string GetClientScriptResourceUrl(Control control, Type type, string resourceName) { #if IncludeScriptCompressionModuleSupport // If wwScriptCompression Module through Web.config is loaded use it to compress // script resources by using wcSC.axd Url the module intercepts if (ScriptCompressionModule.ScriptCompressionModuleActive) { string url = "~/wwSC.axd?r=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(resourceName); if (type.Assembly != GetType().Assembly) url += "&t=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(type.FullName); return WebUtils.ResolveUrl(url); } #endif return control.Page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(type, resourceName); } This code merely retrieves the resource URL and then simply calls back to RegisterClientScriptInclude with the URL to be embedded which means there’s nothing specific to deal with other than the custom compression module logic which is nice and easy. What else is there in ClientScriptProxy? ClientscriptProxy also provides a few other useful services beyond what I’ve already covered here: Transparent ScriptManager and ClientScript calls ClientScriptProxy includes a host of routines that help figure out whether a script manager is available or not and all functions in this class call the appropriate object – ScriptManager or ClientScript – that is available in the current page to ensure that scripts get embedded into pages properly. This is especially useful for control development where controls have no control over the scripting environment in place on the page. RegisterCssLink and RegisterCssResource Much like the script embedding functions these two methods allow embedding of CSS links. CSS links are appended to the header or to a form declared with runat=”server”. LoadControlScript Is a high level resource loading routine that can be used to easily switch between different script linking modes. It supports loading from a WebResource, a url or not loading anything at all. This is very useful if you build controls that deal with specification of resource urls/ids in a standard way. Check out the full Code You can check out the full code to the ClientScriptProxyClass here: ClientScriptProxy.cs ClientScriptProxy Documentation (class reference) Note that the ClientScriptProxy has a few dependencies in the West Wind Web Toolkit of which it is part of. ControlResources holds a few standard constants and script resource links and the ScriptCompressionModule which is referenced in a few of the script inclusion methods. There’s also another useful ScriptContainer companion control  to the ClientScriptProxy that allows scripts to be placed onto the page’s markup including the ability to specify the script location and script minification options. • Getting a Web Resource Url in non WebForms Applications

    - by Rick Strahl
    WebResources in ASP.NET are pretty useful feature. WebResources are resources that are embedded into a .NET assembly and can be loaded from the assembly via a special resource URL. WebForms includes a method on the ClientScriptManager (Page.ClientScript) and the ScriptManager object to retrieve URLs to these resources. For example you can do: ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof(ControlResources), ControlResources.JQUERY_SCRIPT_RESOURCE); GetWebResourceUrl requires a type (which is used for the assembly lookup in which to find the resource) and the resource id to lookup. GetWebResourceUrl() then returns a nasty old long URL like this: WebResource.axd?d=-b6oWzgbpGb8uTaHDrCMv59VSmGhilZP5_T_B8anpGx7X-PmW_1eu1KoHDvox-XHqA1EEb-Tl2YAP3bBeebGN65tv-7-yAimtG4ZnoWH633pExpJor8Qp1aKbk-KQWSoNfRC7rQJHXVP4tC0reYzVw2&t=634533278261362212 While lately excessive resource usage has been frowned upon especially by MVC developers who tend to opt for content distributed as files, I still think that Web Resources have their place even in non-WebForms applications. Also if you have existing assemblies that include resources like scripts and common image links it sure would be nice to access them from non-WebForms pages like MVC views or even in plain old Razor Web Pages. Where's my Page object Dude? Unfortunately natively ASP.NET doesn't have a mechanism for retrieving WebResource Urls outside of the WebForms engine. It's a feature that's specifically baked into WebForms and that relies specifically on the Page HttpHandler implementation. Both Page.ClientScript (obviously) and ScriptManager rely on a hosting Page object in order to work and the various methods off these objects require control instances passed. The reason for this is that the script managers can inject scripts and links into Page content (think RegisterXXXX methods) and for that a Page instance is required. However, for many other methods - like GetWebResourceUrl() - that simply return resources or resource links the Page reference is really irrelevant. While there's a separate ClientScriptManager class, it's marked as sealed and doesn't have any public constructors so you can't create your own instance (without Reflection). Even if it did the internal constructor it does have requires a Page reference. No good… So, can we get access to a WebResourceUrl generically without running in a WebForms Page instance? We just have to create a Page instance ourselves and use it internally. There's nothing intrinsic about the use of the Page class in ClientScript, at least for retrieving resources and resource Urls so it's easy to create an instance of a Page for example in a static method. For our needs of retrieving ResourceUrls or even actually retrieving script resources we can use a canned, non-configured Page instance we create on our own. The following works just fine: public static string GetWebResourceUrl(Type type, string resource ) { Page page = new Page(); return page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(type, resource); } A slight optimization for this might be to cache the created Page instance. Page tends to be a pretty heavy object to create each time a URL is required so you might want to cache the instance: public class WebUtils { private static Page CachedPage { get { if (_CachedPage == null) _CachedPage = new Page(); return _CachedPage; } } private static Page _CachedPage; public static string GetWebResourceUrl(Type type, string resource) { return CachedPage.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(type, resource); } } You can now use GetWebResourceUrl in a Razor page like this: <!DOCTYPE html> <html <head> <script src="@WebUtils.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof(ControlResources),ControlResources.JQUERY_SCRIPT_RESOURCE)"> </script> </head> <body> <div class="errordisplay"> <img src="@WebUtils.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof(ControlResources),ControlResources.WARNING_ICON_RESOURCE)" /> This is only a Test! </div> </body> </html> And voila - there you have WebResources served from a non-Page based application. WebResources may be a on the way out, but legacy apps have them embedded and for some situations, like fallback scripts and some common image resources I still like to use them. Being able to use them from non-WebForms applications should have been built into the core ASP.NETplatform IMHO, but seeing that it's not this workaround is easy enough to implement.© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2011Posted in ASP.NET  MVC   Tweet (function() { var po = document.createElement('script'); po.type = 'text/javascript'; po.async = true; po.src = 'https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s); })();

  • How to programmatically show & hide BalloonPopupExtender?

    - by Danferd
    I have a page that will be having few buttons that will redirect user to certain pages that required them to login before to proceed to the page. I would like to have something like, when user click on the button that required login and if user is not logged in prior to the click, a tooltip will show up beside the 'User ID' textbox to inform user to login in order to proceed. So, I implemented the jQuery Tooltipster in the page to show the tooltip message. I'm having problem on IE8 in Windows XP where the first click on the button, the tooltip would show up, but the second click it wouldn't then the third click, it shows up again and then the fourth click, it wouldn't! But for IE8 in Windows 7, IE9 & IE10, they have no such problem. Any idea how to fix this? The 'imgBtnKISS' & 'lnkBtnKISS' buttons are located in a content page but the tooltip and the 'User ID' textbox are in a master page. Below is the code that how I call the tooltip: function loginAlertMsg() { $('.tooltip').tooltipster({ trigger: 'custom', position: 'left', onlyOne: false, content: 'Login required! Please login to proceed.' }); $('#ctl00_txtID').tooltipster('show'); $('#ctl00_txtID').focus(); } Private Sub KISS_Click() Handles imgBtnKISS.Click, lnkBtnKISS.Click If Not bIsRefresh Then '==Detect User Login Status== Session(sesClickFromIcon) = toKISS If Session(USR.sesLogin) Is Nothing Then '//User NOT LOGIN. If (Not Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("loginAlertMsg")) Then Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "loginAlertMsg", "loginAlertMsg();", True) End If Exit Sub Else If Trim(CType(Session.Item(USR.sesLogin), Boolean)) <> True Then '//User NOT LOGIN. If (Not Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("loginAlertMsg")) Then Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "loginAlertMsg", "loginAlertMsg();", True) End If Exit Sub End If End If '**Detect User Login Status** Response.Redirect("~/page2.aspx", False) Session.Remove(sesClickFromIcon) End If End Sub

  • Visual Studio 2010 and javascript debugging in external javascript files (embedded and minified).

    - by OKB
    Hi, The asp.net web application I'm working on is written in asp.net 3.5, the web app solution is upgraded from VS 2008 (don't know if that matter). The solution had javascript in the aspx files before I moved the javascript to external files. Now what I have done is to set all the javascript files to be embedded resource (except the jquery.js file) and I want to minify them when building for release by using the MS Ajax Minifier. I want to use the minified javascript files when I'm in the RELEASE mode and when I'm in DEBUG mode I want to use the "normal" versions. My problem now is that I'm unable to debug the javascript code in debug mode. When I set a break point a javascript function, VS is not breaking at all when the function is executed. I have added this entry in my web.config: <system.web> <compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="true" /> </system.web> Here how I register the jquery in an aspx-file: <asp:ScriptManagerProxy ID="ScriptManagerProxy1" runat="server"> <Scripts> <asp:ScriptReference Path="~/Javascript/jquery.js"/> </Scripts> </asp:ScriptManagerProxy> External javascript registration in the code-behind: #if DEBUG [assembly: WebResource("braArkivWeb.Javascript.jquery.js", "text/javascript")] [assembly: WebResource(braArkivWeb.ArkivdelSearch.JavaScriptResource, "text/javascript")] #else [assembly: WebResource("braArkivWeb.Javascript.jquery.min.js", "text/javascript")] [assembly: WebResource(braArkivWeb.ArkivdelSearch.JavaScriptMinResource, "text/javascript")] #endif public partial class ArkivdelSearch : Page { public const string JavaScriptResource = "braArkivWeb.ArkivdelSearch.js"; public const string JavaScriptMinResource = "braArkivWeb.ArkivdelSearch.min.js"; protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e) { InitPageClientScript(); } private void InitPageClientScript() { #if DEBUG this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptResource(typeof(ArkivdelSearch), "braArkivWeb.Javascript.jquery.js"); this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptResource(typeof(ArkivdelSearch), JavaScriptResource); #else this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptResource(typeof(ArkivdelSearch), "braArkivWeb.Javascript.jquery.min.js"); this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptResource(typeof(ArkivdelSearch), JavaScriptMinResource); #endif StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(typeof(ArkivdelSearch), "initArkivdelSearch", sb.ToString(), true); } } In the project file I have added this code to minify the javascripts: <!-- Minify all JavaScript files that were embedded as resources --> <UsingTask TaskName="AjaxMin" AssemblyFile="$(MSBuildProjectDirectory)\..\..\SharedLib\AjaxMinTask.dll" /> <PropertyGroup> <ResGenDependsOn> MinifyJavaScript; $(ResGenDependsOn) </ResGenDependsOn> </PropertyGroup> <Target Name="MinifyJavaScript" Condition=" '$(ConfigurationName)'=='Release' "> <Copy SourceFiles="@(EmbeddedResource)" DestinationFolder="$(IntermediateOutputPath)" Condition="'%(Extension)'=='.js'"> <Output TaskParameter="DestinationFiles" ItemName="EmbeddedJavaScriptResource" /> </Copy> <AjaxMin JsSourceFiles="@(EmbeddedJavaScriptResource)" JsSourceExtensionPattern="\.js$" JsTargetExtension=".js" /> <ItemGroup> <EmbeddedResource Remove="@(EmbeddedResource)" Condition="'%(Extension)'=='.js'" /> <EmbeddedResource Include="@(EmbeddedJavaScriptResource)" /> <FileWrites Include="@(EmbeddedJavaScriptResource)" /> </ItemGroup> </Target> Do you see what I'm doing wrong? Or what I'm missing in order to be able to debug my javascript code? Best Regards, OKB

  • How to use SharePoint modal dialog box to display Custom Page Part1

    - by ybbest
    In the part1 of this series, I will show you how to use the modal dialog box to display the custom page and close the page. You can download solution here. 1. Firstly, I create custom action on the list item ECB called Display Custom Page. To do so, you need to create an element item in SharePoint project and copy the following xml to the element file. <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/"> <CustomAction Id="ReportConcern" RegistrationType="ContentType" RegistrationId="0x010100866B1423D33DDA4CA1A4639B54DD4642" Location="EditControlBlock" Sequence="107" Title="Display Custom Page" Description="To Display Custom Page in a modal dialog box on this item"> <UrlAction Url="javascript: function CallDETCustomDialog(dialogResult, returnValue) { SP.UI.ModalDialog.RefreshPage(SP.UI.DialogResult.OK); } var options = { url: '{SiteUrl}' + '/_layouts/YBBEST/TitleRename.aspx?List={ListId}&amp;ID={ItemId}', title: 'Rename title', allowMaximize: false, showClose: true, width: 500, height: 300, dialogReturnValueCallback: CallDETCustomDialog }; SP.UI.ModalDialog.showModalDialog(options);" /> </CustomAction> </Elements> 2. In your code behind, you can implement a close dialog function as below. • Ajax, Callback, postback and Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_beginRequest

    - by user338262
    Hi, I have a user control which encapsulates a NumericUpDownExtender. This UserControl implements the interface ICallbackEventHandler, because I want that when a user changes the value of the textbox associated a custom event to be raised in the server. By the other hand each time an async postback is done I shoe a message of loading and disable the whole screen. This works perfect when something is changed in for example an UpdatePanel through this lines of code: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_beginRequest( function (sender, args) { var modalPopupBehavior = $find('programmaticSavingLoadingModalPopupBehavior'); modalPopupBehavior.show(); } ); The UserControl is placed inside a detailsview which is inside an UpdatePanel in an aspx. When the custom event is raised I want another textbox in the aspx to change its value. So far, When I click on the UpDownExtender, it goes correctly to the server and raises the custom event, and the new value of the textbox is assigned in the server. but it is not changed in the browser. I suspect that the problem is the callback, since I have the same architecture for a UserControl with an AutoCompleteExtender which implement IPostbackEventHandler and it works. Any clues how can I solve this here to make the UpDownNumericExtender user control to work like the AutComplete one? This is the code of the user control and the parent: using System; using System.Web.UI; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Text; namespace Corp.UserControls { [Themeable(true)] public partial class CustomNumericUpDown : CorpNumericUpDown, ICallbackEventHandler { protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { currentInstanceNumber = CorpAjaxControlToolkitUserControl.getNextInstanceNumber(); } registerControl(this.HFNumericUpDown.ClientID, currentInstanceNumber); string strCallServer = "NumericUpDownCallServer" + currentInstanceNumber.ToString(); // If this function is not written the callback to get the disponibilidadCliente doesn't work if (!Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("ReceiveServerDataNumericUpDown")) { StringBuilder str = new StringBuilder(); str.Append("function ReceiveServerDataNumericUpDown(arg, context) {}").AppendLine(); Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(CorpNumericUpDown), "ReceiveServerDataNumericUpDown", str.ToString(), true); } nudeNumericUpDownExtender.BehaviorID = "NumericUpDownEx" + currentInstanceNumber.ToString(); ClientScriptManager cm = Page.ClientScript; String cbReference = cm.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "arg", "ReceiveServerDataNumericUpDown", ""); String callbackScript = "function " + strCallServer + "(arg, context)" + Environment.NewLine + "{" + Environment.NewLine + cbReference + ";" + Environment.NewLine + "}" + Environment.NewLine; cm.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(CustomNumericUpDown), strCallServer, callbackScript, true); base.Page_PreRender(sender,e); } [System.ComponentModel.Browsable(true)] [System.ComponentModel.Bindable(true)] public Int64 Value { get { return (string.IsNullOrEmpty(HFNumericUpDown.Value) ? Int64.Parse("1") : Int64.Parse(HFNumericUpDown.Value)); } set { HFNumericUpDown.Value = value.ToString(); //txtAutoCompleteCliente_AutoCompleteExtender.ContextKey = value.ToString(); // TODO: Change the text of the textbox } } [System.ComponentModel.Browsable(true)] [System.ComponentModel.Bindable(true)] [Description("The text of the numeric up down")] public string Text { get { return txtNumericUpDown.Text; } set { txtNumericUpDown.Text = value; } } public delegate void NumericUpDownChangedHandler(object sender, NumericUpDownChangedArgs e); public event NumericUpDownChangedHandler numericUpDownEvent; [System.ComponentModel.Browsable(true)] [System.ComponentModel.Bindable(true)] [System.ComponentModel.Description("Raised after the number has been increased or decreased")] protected virtual void OnNumericUpDownEvent(object sender, NumericUpDownChangedArgs e) { if (numericUpDownEvent != null) //check to see if anyone has attached to the event numericUpDownEvent(this, e); } #region ICallbackEventHandler Members public string GetCallbackResult() { return "";//throw new NotImplementedException(); } public void RaiseCallbackEvent(string eventArgument) { NumericUpDownChangedArgs nudca = new NumericUpDownChangedArgs(long.Parse(eventArgument)); OnNumericUpDownEvent(this, nudca); } #endregion } /// <summary> /// Class that adds the prestamoList to the event /// </summary> public class NumericUpDownChangedArgs : System.EventArgs { /// <summary> /// The current selected value. /// </summary> public long Value { get; private set; } public NumericUpDownChangedArgs(long value) { Value = value; } } } using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; namespace Corp { /// <summary> /// Summary description for CorpAjaxControlToolkitUserControl /// </summary> public class CorpNumericUpDown : CorpAjaxControlToolkitUserControl { private Int16 _currentInstanceNumber; // This variable hold the instanceNumber assignated at first place. public short currentInstanceNumber { get { return _currentInstanceNumber; } set { _currentInstanceNumber = value; } } protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { const string strOnChange = "OnChange"; const string strCallServer = "NumericUpDownCallServer"; StringBuilder str = new StringBuilder(); foreach (KeyValuePair<String, Int16> control in controlsToRegister) { str.Append("function ").Append(strOnChange + control.Value).Append("(sender, eventArgs) ").AppendLine(); str.Append("{").AppendLine(); str.Append(" if (sender) {").AppendLine(); str.Append(" var hfield = document.getElementById('").Append(control.Key).Append("');").AppendLine(); str.Append(" if (hfield.value != eventArgs) {").AppendLine(); str.Append(" hfield.value = eventArgs;").AppendLine(); str.Append(" ").Append(strCallServer + control.Value).Append("(eventArgs, eventArgs);").AppendLine(); str.Append(" }").AppendLine(); str.Append(" }").AppendLine(); str.Append("}").AppendLine(); Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(CorpNumericUpDown), Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), str.ToString(), true); } str = new StringBuilder(); foreach (KeyValuePair<String, Int16> control in controlsToRegister) { str.Append(" funcsPageLoad[funcsPageLoad.length] = function() { $find('NumericUpDownEx" + control.Value + "').add_currentChanged(").Append(strOnChange + control.Value).Append(");};").AppendLine(); str.Append(" funcsPageUnLoad[funcsPageUnLoad.length] = function() { $find('NumericUpDownEx" + control.Value + "').remove_currentChanged(").Append(strOnChange + control.Value).Append(");};").AppendLine(); } Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(typeof(CorpNumericUpDown), Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), str.ToString(), true); } } } and to create the loading view I use this: //The beginRequest event is raised before the processing of an asynchronous postback starts and the postback is sent to the server. You can use this event to call custom script to set a request header or to start an animation that notifies the user that the postback is being processed. Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_beginRequest( function (sender, args) { var modalPopupBehavior = $find('programmaticSavingLoadingModalPopupBehavior'); modalPopupBehavior.show(); } ); //The endRequest event is raised after an asynchronous postback is finished and control has been returned to the browser. You can use this event to provide a notification to users or to log errors. Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest( function (sender, arg) { var modalPopupBehavior = $find('programmaticSavingLoadingModalPopupBehavior'); modalPopupBehavior.hide(); } ); Thanks in advance! Daniel.

  • ASP.NET Web Forms Extensibility: Control Adapters

    - by Ricardo Peres
    All ASP.NET controls from version 2.0 can be associated with a control adapter. A control adapter is a class that inherits from ControlAdapter and it has the chance to interact with the control(s) it is targeting so as to change some of its properties or alter its output. I talked about control adapters before and they really a cool feature. The ControlAdapter class exposes virtual methods for some well known lifecycle events, OnInit, OnLoad, OnPreRender and OnUnload that closely match their Control counterparts, but are fired before them. Because the control adapter has a reference to its target Control, it can cast it to its concrete class and do something with it before its lifecycle events are actually fired. The adapter is also notified before the control is rendered (BeginRender), after their children are renderes (RenderChildren) and after itself is rendered (Render): this way the adapter can modify the control’s output. Control adapters may be specified for any class inheriting from Control, including abstract classes, web server controls and even pages. You can, for example, specify a control adapter for the WebControl and UserControl classes, but, curiously, not for Control itself. When specifying a control adapter for a page, it must inherit from PageAdapter instead of ControlAdapter. The adapter for a control, if specified, can be found on the protected Adapter property, and for a page, on the PageAdapter property. The first use of control adapters that came to my attention was for changing the output of standard ASP.NET web controls so that they were more based on CSS and less on HTML tables: it was the CSS Friendly Control Adapters project, now available at http://code.google.com/p/aspnetcontroladapters/. They are interesting because you specify them in one location and they apply anywhere a control of the target type is created. Mind you, it applies to controls declared on markup as well as controls created by code with the new operator. So, how do you use control adapters? The most usual way is through a browser definition file. In it, you specify a set of control adapters and their target controls, for a given browser. This browser definition file is a XML file with extension .Browser, and can either be global (%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\vXXXX\Config\Browsers) or local to the web application, in which case, it must be placed inside the App_Browsers folder at the root of the web site. It looks like this: 1: <browsers> 2: <browser refID="Default"> 3: <controlAdapters> 4: <adapter controlType="System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox" adapterType="MyNamespace.TextBoxAdapter, MyAssembly" /> 5: </controlAdapters> 6: </browser> 7: </browsers> A browser definition file targets a specific browser, so you can have different definitions for Chrome, IE, Firefox, Opera, as well as for specific version of each of those (like IE8, Firefox3). Alternatively, if you set the target to Default, it will apply to all. The reason to pick a specific browser and version might be, for example, in order to circumvent some limitation present in that specific version, so that on markup you don’t need to be concerned with that. Another option is through the the current Browser object of the request: 1: this.Context.Request.Browser.Adapters.Add(typeof(TextBox).FullName, typeof(TextBoxAdapter).FullName); This must go very early on the page lifecycle, for example, on the OnPreInit event, or even on Application_Start. You have to specify the full class name for both the target control and the adapter. Of course, you have to do this for every request, because it won’t be persisted. As an example, you may know that the classic TextBox control renders an HTML input tag if its TextMode is set to SingleLine and a textarea if set to MultiLine. Because the textarea has no notion of maximum length, unlike the input, something must be done in order to enforce this. Here’s a simple suggestion: 1: public class TextBoxControlAdapter : ControlAdapter 2: { 3: protected TextBox Target 4: { 5: get 6: { 7: return (this.Control as TextBox); 8: } 9: } 10:  11: protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) 12: { 13: if ((this.Target.MaxLength > 0) && (this.Target.TextMode == TextBoxMode.MultiLine)) 14: { 15: if (this.Target.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("TextBox_KeyUp") == false) 16: { 17: if (this.Target.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(this.Target.Page.GetType(), "TextBox_KeyUp") == false) 18: { 19: String script = String.Concat("function TextBox_KeyUp(sender) { if (sender.value.length > ", this.Target.MaxLength, ") { sender.value = sender.value.substr(0, ", this.Target.MaxLength, "); } }\n"); 20:  21: this.Target.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.Target.Page.GetType(), "TextBox_KeyUp", script, true); 22: } 23:  24: this.Target.Attributes["onkeyup"] = "TextBox_KeyUp(this)"; 25: } 26: } 27: 28: base.OnLoad(e); 29: } 30: } What it does is, for every TextBox control, if it is set for multi line and has a defined maximum length, it injects some JavaScript that will filter out any content that exceeds this maximum length. This will occur for any TextBox that you may have on your site, or any class that inherits from it. You can use any of the previous options to register this adapter. Stay tuned for more ASP.NET Web Forms extensibility tips!

  • Where is ScriptManager.IsStartupScriptRegistered method?

    - by Ismail S
    Below is my code if (!Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered(Page.GetType(), scriptKey)) { ScriptManager scriptManager = ScriptManager.GetCurrent(page); if (scriptManager != null && scriptManager.IsInAsyncPostBack) { //if a MS AJAX request, use the Scriptmanager class ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(Page, Page.GetType(), scriptKey, script, true); } else { //if a standard postback, use the standard ClientScript method Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Page.GetType(), scriptKey, script, true); } } I'm doing as suggested in this answer so that I can register startup script on both times i.e. when there is partial postback and a full postback. The problem is Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered(Page.GetType(), scriptKey) always returns false when it is partial postback. And I couldn't find ScriptManager.IsStartupScriptRegistered method. As a result of this additional script is emitted on all partial/async postbacks. Please note that I'm using script manager of AjaxControlToolkit version 4.1 i.e. ToolkitScriptManager in my masterpage. But I don't thing it has something to do with this. UPDATE <asp:UpdatePanel ID="ContactDetailsUpdatePanel" UpdateMode="Conditional" runat="server"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="UpdateContactDetailsButton" EventName="Click" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <div id="ContactDetailsContent" class="contact_details_content"> <div class="customer_contactdetails_left_pane"> <div class="customer_name_field"> <asp:Label ID="CustomerNameLabel" runat="server" Text="Customer" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerNameValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div class="customer_address_field"> <asp:Label ID="CustomerAddressLabel" runat="server" Text="Address" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerAddressValue" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerAddressValue1" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerAddressValue2" runat="server" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerAddressValue3" runat="server" /> </div> <div class="customer_postcode_field"> <asp:Label ID="CustomerPostcodeLabel" runat="server" Text="Postcode" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerPostcodeValue" runat="server" /> </div> </div> <div class="customer_contactdetails_right_pane"> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerContactLabel" runat="server" Text="Contact" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerContactValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerTelephoneLabel" runat="server" Text="Telephone" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerTelephoneValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerMobileLabel" runat="server" Text="Mobile" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerMobileValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerFaxLabel" runat="server" Text="Fax" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerFaxValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerEmailLabel" runat="server" Text="Email" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerEmailValue" runat="server" /> </div> <div> <asp:Label ID="CustomerWebLabel" runat="server" Text="Web" /> <asp:TextBox ID="CustomerWebValue" runat="server" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="update_button_field"> <asp:Button ID="UpdateContactDetailsButton" runat="server" Text="Update" onclick="UpdateContactDetailsButton_Click" /> </div> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> Thanks in advance.

  • Why do I lose my javascript from the browser cache after a full page postback?

    - by burak ozdogan
    Hi, I have an external javascript file which I include to my page on the code behind (as seen below). My problem is, when I my page makes a postback (not partial one), I check the loaded scripts by using FireBug, and I cannot see the javascript file in the list after the post back. I asusmed once it is included to page on the first load, browser will be caching it so that I do not need to re-include it. What am I doing wrong? The way I include the script is here: protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { if (this.Page.IsPostBack==false) { if (this.Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptIncludeRegistered("ctlPalletDetail")==false) { string guidParamToHackBrowserCaching = System.Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptInclude("ctlPalletDetail", ResolveUrl(String.Format("~/clientScripts/ctlLtlRequestDetail.js?par={0}",guidParamToHackBrowserCaching))); } } base.OnInit(e); }

  • c# gridview row click

    - by Martijn
    When i click on a row in my gridview, i want to go to a other page with the id i get from the database. In my RowCreated event i have the following line: e.Row.Attributes.Add("onClick", ClientScript.GetPostBackClientHyperlink(this.grdSearchResults, "Select$" + e.Row.RowIndex)); To prevent error messages i have this code: protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { // .NET will refuse to accept "unknown" postbacks for security reasons. Because of this we have to register all possible callbacks // This must be done in Render, hence the override for (int i = 0; i < grdSearchResults.Rows.Count; i++) { Page.ClientScript.RegisterForEventValidation(new System.Web.UI.PostBackOptions(grdSearchResults, "Select$" + i.ToString())); } // Do the standard rendering stuff base.Render(writer); } My question is, how can i give a row a unique id (from the DB) and when i click the row, another page is opened (like clicking on a href) and that page can read the id. Thnx

  • Active Index is not being persisted in jQuery accordion change event

    - by Xaisoft
    I have an asp.net aspx page and on that page I have a hidden input field with and id of paneIndex. However, when I load the page, the alert shows index 1 which is correct on the first load, but if I open up pane 3 for example, the alert shows 1 still. Am I doing something wrong? In a Custom.js file, I have the following code: $(document).ready(function() { $("#accordion").accordion({ active: 1, collapsible: true, autoHeight: false, change: function(event, ui) { var activeIndex = $("#accordion").accordion('option', 'active'); $("#paneIndex").val(activeIndex); //alert(activeIndex); } }); }); In my server side button click, I have the following code: string activeIndex = Request.Form["paneIndex"]; string script = string.Format(@"<script type=""text/javascript"">var paneIndex = {0};</script>", activeIndex); if(!ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("JSScript")) ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(),"JSScript", script);

  • ASP.NET 3.5: GetCallbackEventReference doesn't work synchronously

    - by deadbug
    I have an ASP.NET 3.5 WebForm that leverages the frameworks Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference() method and I'd like some of the calls to be synchronous. Now, the documentation says that the 5th parameter (see below) controls this. Specifically, when you pass 'false' it's supposed to be a non-asynchronous call. However, regardless if it's true or false, it still processes the call asynchronously. Page.ClientScript.GetCallbackEventReference(this, "arg", "ReceiveServerData", "context",false); Is there a work-around for this or perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for the assistance!

  • Javascript error when attempting to open a modal window in a modal window

    - by The Sheek Geek
    The application is running on a windows server 2003 box using asp.net 2.0 and is an IE specific web app. There is a button that opens a form in an iframe using showModalDialog(...) from a function call located in the javascript. Here is an example of the fucntion: function ShowBusinessHoursSubForm( source ) { var retval = window.showModalDialog("htm/" + locLocaleID + "/SubFormHostFrame.htm", source, "dialogWidth:265px;dialogHeight:261px;help:no;scroll:no;status:no;"); } The host frame is loading an aspx page which contains the actual form that is being used. On the form that is opened there is a button that, when clicked, submits changed to the form. However, if no changed were made before the form was submitted, another modal window pops up stating that there were no changed to the form. This modal window is opened through registration of some javascript in the button click event. The code is as follows (C#): string l_S_ErrorScript = "<script type='text/javascript' language='javascript'>window.showModalDialog('htm/" + l_S_Culture + "/NotChangedErrorDialog.htm', '../../" + l_S_SkinPath + "', 'dialogWidth:310px;dialogHeight:145px;scroll:no;help:no;status:no;');</script>"; if(!m_Page.ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("ErrorScript")) { m_Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "ErrorScript", l_S_ErrorScript); } When the button is clicked and this dialog needs to appear the following javascript error appears: Error: Object doesn't support this property or method The weird thing is, if I access the application locally and try it everything works fine, but accessing from another computer causes the error. Also, depending on what server (we have many servers for testing all with windows server 2003) the error may not occur on another computer either. These computers are running the same software version using the same version of IE with the same settings. I'm inclined to believe that there is some configuration issue somewhere, but with the settings being the same it is hard to tell. I cannot really change how the app works or the technologies used either. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this?
