  • Stuttery 1080p playback on decent system

    We have a media center system that was recently built. It works well for all types of content, however it has issues with 1080p content. 720p plays fine. I have tried VLC, ffdshow and finally, CoreAVC. CoreAVC plays the best however it still eventually loses sync due to stutter - this does not happen on other systems with the same file. Specs: Asrock 4core-2dual sata PCI Express ATI 2400 HD 1.5GB DDR 2100 Intel Pentium E5300 120GB Maxtor Diamondmax PATA Any ideas?

    I have ubuntu x64 13.04 with kde 4.11 and smplayer v0.8.6 and the last mplayer version from ppa. I have ATI video card HD6870 MSI with fglrx driver v13.4. My kde settings are: Composition mode: Opengl 3.1 graphic system qt: Raster scaling mode: precise Vsync: auto So what's the best configuration for quality over performace in smplayer according to my system specs? For example what do I have to set for the following options? enable postprocessing by default and postprocessing quality output driver Deinterlacing method software equalizer direct rendering double buffering draw video using slices threads for decoding (MPEG-1/2 and H.264 only loop filter use CoreAVC Thanks

  • Netbook performance - 1.33 GHz vs 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom

    All new 11" netbooks seem to carry 1.33 GHz Atom Z520 CPU instead of 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom N270/N280. The screen resolution of 11" netbooks make them very appealing, but I'm a bit concerned about their performance as they carry a slower CPU than the 1.6GHz Atom, which isn't a great performer in the first place. Is there any significant difference in performance between 1.33 GHz and 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom processors in day to day usage? Are any of those fast enough to decode 720p x264 video? (When paired with typical Intel GMA platform and software decoder like ffdshow/CoreAVC of course, not with Nvidia Ion platform)
