  • How do you handle measuring Code Coverage in JavaScript

    - by Dancrumb
In order to measure Code Coverage for JavaScript unit tests, one needs to instrument the code, run the tests and then perform post-processing. My concern is that, as a result, you are unit testing code that will never be run in production. Since JavaScript isn't compiled, what you test should be precisely what you execute. So here's my question, how do you handle this? One thought I had was to run Unit Testing on the production code and use that for my pass fail. I would then create a shadow of my production code, with instrumentation and run my unit tests again; this would give me my code coverage stats. Has anyone come across a method that is a little more graceful than this?

  • Having problems with high CPU usage and apparent memory leak of Exim

    - by Dancrumb
    I'm having problems with my server and am hoping you can help. The culprit appears to be exim. The CPU usage is consistently high and the memory usage trends up and up and up for no apparent reason (this is not a heavily used server). To demonstrate the issue, I ran the following: root@server [/var/log]# service exim restart; for iter in `seq 0 9`; do date; top -n1 | grep exim; sleep 10; done Shutting down exim: [ OK ] Shutting down spamd: [ OK ] Starting exim: [ OK ] Sun Jun 6 18:12:07 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 11400 6572 2356 R 51.5 1.3 0:00.92 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:12:18 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 28768 23m 2356 R 57.4 4.6 0:06.75 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:12:28 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 36408 30m 2356 R 55.5 6.0 0:12.59 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:12:39 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 41396 35m 2356 R 53.5 7.0 0:18.35 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:12:49 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 45868 40m 2356 R 47.5 7.8 0:24.06 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:13:00 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 50056 44m 2356 R 55.3 8.6 0:29.84 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:13:10 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 53888 47m 2356 R 55.2 9.4 0:35.63 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:13:21 CDT 2010 62592 root 20 0 56920 50m 2356 R 55.3 9.9 0:41.15 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:13:31 CDT 2010 62592 root 25 0 60380 54m 2356 R 53.4 10.6 0:46.98 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim Sun Jun 6 18:13:42 CDT 2010 62592 root 22 0 63400 57m 2356 R 49.5 11.2 0:52.74 exim 62587 mailnull 18 0 7548 1212 792 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.00 exim 62588 root 18 0 7536 2052 1648 S 0.0 0.4 0:00.00 exim After some time, it gets to a rate of picking up an extra MB every 10s. • Is there a way to effect user defined data types in MySQL?

    - by Dancrumb
I have a database which stores (among other things), the following pieces of information: Hardware IDs BIGINTs Storage Capacities BIGINTs Hardware Names VARCHARs World Wide Port Names VARCHARs I'd like to be able to capture a more refined definition of these datatypes. For instance, the hardware IDs have no numerical significance, so I don't care how they are formatted when displayed. The Storage Capacities, however, are cardinal numbers and, at a user's request, I'd like to present them with thousands and decimal separators, e.g. 123,456.789. Thus, I'd like to refine BIGINT into, say ID_NUMBER and CARDINAL. The same with Hardware Names, which are simple text and WWPNs, which are hexstrings, e.g. 24:68:AC:E0. Thus, I'd like to refine VARCHAR into ENGLISH_WORD and HEXSTRING. The specific datatypes I made up are just for illustrative purposes. I'd like to keep all this information in one place and I'm wondering if anybody knows of a good way to hold this all in my MySQL table definitions. I could use the Comment field of the table definition, but that smells fishy to me. One approach would be to define the data structure elsewhere and use that definition to generate my CREATE TABLEs, but that would be a major rework of the code that I currently have, so I'm looking for alternatives. Any suggestions? The application language in use is Perl, if that helps.

  • How do I ensure that a regex does not match an empty string?

    - by Dancrumb
I'm using the Jison parser generator for Javascript and am having problems with my language specification. The program I'm writing will be a calculator that can handle feet, inches and sixteenths. In order to do this, I have the following specification: %% ([0-9]+\s*"'")?\s*([0-9]+\s*"\"")?\s*([0-9]+\s*"s")? {return 'FIS';} [0-9]+("."[0-9]+)?\b {return 'NUMBER';} \s+ {/* skip whitespace */} "*" {return '*';} "/" {return '/';} "-" {return '-';} "+" {return '+';} "(" {return '(';} ")" {return ')';} <<EOF>> {return 'EOF';} Most of these lines come from a basic calculator specification. I simply added the first line. The regex correctly matches feet, inch, sixteenths, such as 6'4" (six feet, 4 inches) or 4"5s (4 inches, 5 sixteenths) with any kind of whitespace between the numbers and indicators. The problem is that the regex also matches a null string. As a result, the lexical analysis always records a FIS at the start of the line and then the parsing fails. Here is my question: is there a way to modify this regex to guarantee that it will only match a non-zero length string?

  • Do I need to manually create indexes for a DBIx::Class belongs_to relationship

    - by Dancrumb
I'm using the DBIx::Class modules for an ORM approach to an application I have. I'm having some problems with my relationships. I have the following package MySchema::Result::ClusterIP; use strict; use warnings; use base qw/DBIx::Class::Core/; our $VERSION = '1.0'; __PACKAGE__->load_components(qw/InflateColumn::Object::Enum Core/); __PACKAGE__->table('cluster_ip'); __PACKAGE__->add_columns( # Columns here ); __PACKAGE__->set_primary_key('objkey'); __PACKAGE__->belongs_to( 'configuration' => 'MySchema::Result::Configuration', 'config_key'); __PACKAGE__->belongs_to( 'cluster' => 'MySchema::Result::Cluster', { 'foreign.config_key' => 'self.config_key', 'foreign.id' => 'self.cluster_id' } ); As well as package MySchema::Result::Cluster; use strict; use warnings; use base qw/DBIx::Class::Core/; our $VERSION = '1.0'; __PACKAGE__->load_components(qw/InflateColumn::Object::Enum Core/); __PACKAGE__->table('cluster'); __PACKAGE__->add_columns( # Columns here ); __PACKAGE__->set_primary_key('objkey'); __PACKAGE__->belongs_to( 'configuration' => 'MySchema::Result::Configuration', 'config_key'); __PACKAGE__->has_many('cluster_ip' => 'MySchema::Result::ClusterIP', { 'foreign.config_key' => 'self.config_key', 'foreign.cluster_id' => 'self.id' }); There are a couple of other modules, but I don't believe that they are relevant. When I attempt to deploy this schema, I get the following error: DBIx::Class::Schema::deploy(): DBI Exception: DBD::mysql::db do failed: Can't create table 'test.cluster_ip' (errno: 150) [ for Statement "CREATE TABLE `cluster_ip` ( `objkey` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `config_key` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL, `cluster_id` char(16) NOT NULL, INDEX `cluster_ip_idx_config_key_cluster_id` (`config_key`, `cluster_id`), INDEX `cluster_ip_idx_config_key` (`config_key`), PRIMARY KEY (`objkey`), CONSTRAINT `cluster_ip_fk_config_key_cluster_id` FOREIGN KEY (`config_key`, `cluster_id`) REFERENCES `cluster` (`config_key`, `id`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE, CONSTRAINT `cluster_ip_fk_config_key` FOREIGN KEY (`config_key`) REFERENCES `configuration` (`config_key`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE ) ENGINE=InnoDB"] at test_deploy.pl line 18 (running "CREATE TABLE `cluster_ip` ( `objkey` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `config_key` smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL, `cluster_id` char(16) NOT NULL, INDEX `cluster_ip_idx_config_key_cluster_id` (`config_key`, `cluster_id`), INDEX `cluster_ip_idx_config_key` (`config_key`), PRIMARY KEY (`objkey`), CONSTRAINT `cluster_ip_fk_config_key_cluster_id` FOREIGN KEY (`config_key`, `cluster_id`) REFERENC ES `cluster` (`config_key`, `id`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE, CONSTRAINT `cluster_ip_fk_config_key` FOREIGN KEY (`config_key`) REFERENCES `configuration` (`conf ig_key`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE ) ENGINE=InnoDB") at test_deploy.pl line 18 From what I can tell, MySQL is complaining about the FOREIGN KEY constraint, in particular, the REFERENCE to (config_key, id) in the cluster table. From my reading of the MySQL documentation, this seems like a reasonable complaint, especially in regards to the third bullet point on this doc page. Here's my question. Am I missing something in the DBIx::Class module? I realize that I could explicitly create the necessary index to match up with this foreign key constraint, but that seems to be repetitive work. Is there something I should be doing to make this occur implicitly?

  • Can I use a filehandle instead of a filename for creating DBM files?

    - by Dancrumb
I'm using MLDBM to persist some Perl data structures and I'm wondering if there's an alternative to the following: tie %hash, "MLDBM", $dbm_file, O_CREAT | O_RDWR, 0644; Primarily, I'd like to be able to use STDOUT, rather than a known file name. This could then be redirected to a file on the shell-side. I've been searching with keywords like "tie", "DBM" and "filehandle", but the hits tend to talk about tying filehandles to things, as opposed to things to filehandles. Any suggestions?
