MessageContract serialization with DCS

Is there a way to make the DataContractSerializer serialize a [MessageContract] the same way it appears when transmitted over SOAP? MongoDB on EC2 - Creating a replicaset across DCs

we are trying to get a MongoDB setup in EC2 going. I had a few questions - Should we turn on auth since the MongoDB endpoint will have a public VIP? Any big hit on perf with auth enabled? Best way to deploy a replicaset in EC2? Do I have to deploy all 3 nodes individually and configure them or can I use a tool to automate the deployment? We would like one of the secondaries to be located in a different DC than the primary. Ubuntu or RHEL? And what version? Thanks!

[MFC] Combining 2 memory DCs ?

I'm writing a control where there's a lot of custom drawing going through. Because of this I need to trim down the amount of "screen writes" that go about. Currently there is only one memory DC that is used to write to screen so as to avoid flicker when the control is redrawn. I want to know if it is a possiblity to use 2 or more memory DCs to write updates independently and then bitblt them to screen. This way the need to render non-changed parts of the screen is minimized. thanx in advacne, the_Saint

Ever wondered how calculate estimated data loss (time) for always on. The metric in the always on dashboard shows the metric quite nicely but there does seem to be a lack of documentation about where the metrics ---come from. How do I set up a one way trust when some DCs are firewalled off from each other?

I have two Windows 2008 forests in Win2003 mode and I need to set up a one way trust between them. The validation button in Domains And Trusts works in one forest but not in the other. I think this is because not all DCs can see all the other DCs. I'm not sure if I need to set up the hosts file, so I did so with company.com in the respective domain along with the relevant DC. (do I need _msdcs _tcp zones etc) How do I set up a one way trust when some DCs are firewalled off from each other?

I am trying to quickly create my first app and am getting gtk errors when I try to run or create an application. Compiling libcurl for mingw32 (Windows) on mac os x 10.6

I have a form that posts to a details page (/Summary/Details), which loads in some data from SQL. I then have a button that opens a dialog box in JQuery, which populates the dialog from a request to (/Operator/Modify). On the dialog box, the form has a combo box and an OK button that lets the user change the operator's name. Upon clicking OK, the form is posted to (/Operator/Modify) and sent through the service and repository layers of my program and updates the record in the database. Then, the RedirectToAction is called to send the user back to the details page (/Summary/Details) where there is a call to pull the data from SQL again, updating the details view. Everything works great, except the details view does not show the new operator that was selected. I can step through the code and see the DCSDataContext class being accessed to update the operator (which does actually change the database record), but when the DCSDataContext is accessed to reload the details objects, it pulls in the old value. I'm guessing that StructureMap is causing not only the DCSDataContext class but also the data to be cached? I have also tried adding the following to the Global.asax, but it just ends up crashing the program telling me the DCSDataContext has been disposed... Which firewall ports do I need to open in order for a domain trust to work?

I have two Active Directory domains in two different forests; each domain has two DCs (all of them Windows Server 2008 R2). The domains are also in different networks, with a firewall connecting them. I need to create a two-way forest trust between the two domains and forest. How do I configure the firewall to allow this? I found this article, but it doesn't explain very clearly which traffic is required between DCs, and which traffic (if any) in needed instead between domain computers in one domain and DCs for the other one. I'm allowed to permit all traffic between the DCs, but allowing computers in one network to access DCs in the other one would be a little more difficult.

Confusion on networking service start/stop in Ubuntu

I'm preparing to move and took down two of my servers, leaving only one with some essential services running. What I neglected to consider was that one was the DHCP server(which I realized when somebody contacted me saying they couldn't connect. Whups). So because I only have a few hosts on this small network, I opted to just statically configure them for now. One of these is a new Ubuntu 11.04 server, where I have very little experience. I edited /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/hosts to reflect my changes. I ran $sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop *deconfiguring network interfaces ... So yay. Then I try to start, it gives me the mumbo jumbo about using services (why didn't it do that for the stop?) So instead I run ... $sudo service networking start networking stop/waiting Now, to me that says the status of the service is stopped. But when I ping another computer, I get a successful reply. So is it not actually stopped? More importantly, am I doing something wrong? Edit I set everything back to original settings and set up a DHCP server. "starting" networking does the same thing. I can only assume this is normal, I just don't know WHY. It can't be anything to do with the configuration files, since they've been restored.

Also, long time readers of my blog will know that back in 2008 I wrote about Windows Vista and Windows 7 number_of_cores support, and in 2009 I shared a widely borrowed screenshot of Task Manager from one of our 128-core machines. So I was excited to just read on the Windows 8 blog that Windows 8 will support up to 640 cores.
