• Does Google Maps API v3 allow larger zoom values ?

  If you use the satellite GMapType using this Google-provided example in v3 of the API, the maximum zoom level has a scale of 2m / 10ft , whereas using the v2 version of another Google-provided example (had to use another one since the control-simple doesn't have the scale control) yields the maximum scale of 20m / 50ft. Is this a new "feature" of v3 ? I have to mention that I've tested the examples in the same GLatLng regions - so my guess is that tile detail level doesn't influence it, am I mistaken ? As mentioned in another question, v3 is to be considered of very Labs-y/beta quality, so use in production should be discouraged for the time being. I've been drawn to the subject since I have to "increase the zoom level of a GMap", the answers here seem to suggest using GTileLayer, and I'm considering GMapCreator, although this will involve some effort. What I'm trying to achieve is to have a larger zoom level, a scale of 2m / 10ft would be perfect, I have a map where the tiles aren't that hi-res and quite a few markers. Seeing that the area doesn't have hi-res tiles, the distance between the markers is really tiny, creating some problematic overlapping. Or better yet, how can you create a custom Map which allows higher zoom levels, as by the Google Campus, where the 2m / 10ft scale is achieved, and not use your own tileserver ? I've seen an example on a fellow Stackoverflower's GMaps sandbox , where the tiles are manually created based on the zoom level. I don't think I'm making any more sense, so I'm just going to end this big question here, I've been wondering around trying to find a solution for hours now. Hope that someone comes to my aid though ! Thank you in advance !

• Java XML Output - proper indenting for child items

  Hello, I'd like to serialize some simple data model into xml, I've been using the standard java.org.w3c -related code (see below), the indentation is better than no "OutputKeys.INDENT", yet there is one little thing that remains - proper indentation for child elements. I know that this has been asked before on stackoverflow , yet that configuration did not work for me, this is the code I'm using : DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = builder.newDocument(); doc = addItemsToDocument(doc); // The addItemsToDocument method adds childElements to the document. • Keep a Google Maps v3 Map Hidden, show when needed

  Is there a way of preventing Google Maps (JS, v3) of being displayed from the get-go ? I do some pre-processing and would like to show my 'Loading' spinner until everything is good to go (more eloquently put, hide the map -- e.g. the container div -- until all preprocessing is complete -- at which point, show the map). Hooking to the map's 'idle' event doesn't help that much, since the map is already displayed when this event hits. I know that the container div gets inline-styled by GMaps after loading, my first idea is to clear out the style attr (whilst listening to 'idle'), but it would be interesting to see if there is a way of creating the map and not displaying it until all pre-processing is done. Maybe by using an argument to the new google.maps.Map constructor, or a MapOption ? Any thoughts on this ? Thank you in advance !

• Rails attribute alias

  Hi, I was just wondering if it's possible to "rename" an association in Rails. Let's assume : # An ActiveRecord Class named SomeModelASubModel (some_model_a_sub_model.rb) class SomeModelASubModel < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :some_model_a_sub_model_items end # An ActiveRecord Class named SomeModelASubModelItem (some_model_a_sub_model_item.rb) class SomeModelASubModelItem < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :some_model_a_sub_model end At this point, calling some_model.items, where some_model is an instance of the SomeModelASubModel Class would trigger an undefined method error. What is the best practice for making this happen though, e.g. : # With a method_alias or something, would it be possible to : some_model = SomeModelASubModel.first # for instance items = some_model.items # For the reason stated, this doesn't work, one has to call : items = some_model.some_model_a_sub_model_items Is such a shorthand possible ?
