I have one of these 'Vantec NexStar LX - NST-475LX-BK' drive enclosures. It is a NAS device.
When I write a file to the device using eSata, or a SMB share I cannot write files over 4GB. I think this is because the drive is formatted with FAT32.
But when I access the device using FTP it doesn't matter. I can write files of any size. E.g. I wrote…
I have a 4TB external hard drive that was previously encrypted using TrueCrypt. The power source on the hard drive enclosure failed, so I had to switch the hard drive itself into a new enclosure. I can no longer decrypt the hard drive using TrueCrypt, as it says my password is wrong. I am certain that I entering the correct password.

I have found similar answers to my current needs on SO, however I am still trying to grasp modifying strings based on a rule, except in certain enclosures within those strings.
Example of what Im trying to accomplish now:
preg_replace("/\s*,\s*/", ",", $text)
I found the above in many places. It will remove spaces before and after…
I am completely out of ideas.
I have 2.5inch HDD from my old laptop, I have tried with 2 different HDD enclosures but my desktop does not recognize it. Not even showing in the disk management or BIOS.
The HDD works fine if I use in a 3.5 inch enclosure with external power.
I have tried 3 different Y USB cables. I have also got a…
hey guys, how r u doin?
I have this 3.5" IDE enclosure, and it works great, I mean I love the idea of enclosures ( not the power feeding thing :), btw can't I just insert a chargable battery to feed the power when I am unable to find an electricity block), anyway my question is, when I finish the usage of the enclosure I safely remove…
I recently purchased a large HDD along with the following HDD enclosure:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173043
It has a simple on-off switch on the back.
When I want to turn this thing off, do I simply just flip the switch? I assume the switch simply kills the power to the HDD, but isn't that potentially…
I have a 1TB SATA hard drive in a third-party USB enclosure hooked up to my computer via USB. The drive has become increasingly unreliable, randomly unmounting and remounting in Windows, making strange noises on occasion, and every once in a while making lots of noise and then unmounting, only fixable by powering down the enclosure,…
I have 5 HDD and my computer is not handling the situation very well. hehe
There are some towers that I can buy to put 4 of my drives out, but I'm thinking that I could use the power source of a failed computer I have and use it to power the 4 (or at least 3) of the drives. The data cables (SATA) will remain connected to the working…
How should I go about mounting an external hard drive without an enclosure?
I have a IDE/SATA to USB adapter. But where should I put the drive, what side should be facing upwards, etc?
Recently I've been looking at a range of network server cabinets with a mesh door at the rear. At the top of the cabinet are ceiling mounted fans with dust filters attached. These fans suck air out of the cabinet - presumably to remove the hot air that has risen to the top.
My question is why do these fans have dust filters? What…
I just got myself a 2TB drive (this one). I'd like it to be available to all the computers in the house. Is there a SATA enclosure available that turns a drive into an NAS?
I'm having a whole host of problems with an external hard drive that was working just fine a couple of hours ago. I've had this problem before once, and that was about 3 months ago, here's what I documented:
So a couple of hours ago I turned off all my computers and shut off
the power to all my devices in my room, then went…
I am working with 2 x Supermicro SC837E26-RJBOD1 chassis connected to a single LSI 9285-8e card in a Supermicro 1U host. There are 28 drives in each chassis for a total of 56 drives in 28 RAID1 mirrors.
The problem I am running in to is that there are duplicate slots for the 2 chassis (the slots list twice and only go from 0 to…
I have a problem, Im trying to make A* searches through a grid based game like pacman or sokoban, but i need to find "enclosures". What do i mean by enclosures? subgraphs with as few cut edges as possible given a maximum size and minimum size for number of vertices that act as soft constraints. Alternatively you could say i am…
If a game map is partitioned into subgraphs, how to minimize edges between subgraphs?

I recently purchased a couple of USB 3.0 External HDD Enclosures to use for storage and backup; the idea was to have one act as backup to the other, with 4 x 3TB drives in total. However, the second drive in each is not accessible in either Linux nor Windows, and I could not determine the reason.
1. Situation
The two…
Hey everyone I got a javascript problem I can't seem to find a specific solution for on the web. What I want to be able to do is select one of the radio buttons and have that change the class of #home-right to either .rackmount or .shipping and add the class of .displaynone to the type of dimensions I don't want shown.…
I have a server (with a SCSI HBA) connected to two Promise VTrak M310p RAID enclosure on the same bus. Everything is working fine until I have to restart my server. Once restarted, the server can no longer communicate with the enclosures: lots of read errors and bus resets.
I have to turn off both enclosure, then turn…
We're using VMware on a normal rack mounted server and considering getting another.
I see these days I can pick blade enclosures and servers up for relatively low cost and see the term blade and vm mentioned quite a lot.
So my question - how would a blade setup work with wmware - is the whole enclosure seen as one big…
Is there any value in getting an external hard drive with a grounded power supply? Would grounding the drive protect it from a static jolt from my hand when I pick it up? I've only really ever used the huge 5.25" external housings (they usually have an integrated power supply and use the standard heavy PSU cable with…
When I use fputcsv to write out a line to an open file handle, PHP will add an enclosing character to any column that it believes needs it, but will leave other columns without the enclosures.
For example, you might end up with a line like this
11,"Bob ",Jenkins,"200 main st. USA ",etc
Short of appending a bogus…
We use external USB drives for backups, and they have to be stored offsite at the end of the week. Right now we have your standard external USB drive inside an enclosure. We were thinking about moving to a USB dock, and dock a bare HDD for backups, rather than having various sized and types of enclosures. If we were…
I'm currently using CCleaner to take care of my computer, but I also have a dynamic desktop background provided by Bing (I'm running Windows 7 HP) - and unfortunately the two conflict. Whenever I 'clean' my computer using CCleaner it messes up my destop backgrounds as they are stored in the temporary internet files…
