Mentioning a price for a service behind a free app in App Store

We are making a business service and have created an app to be used as a front-end. The app is free, but the service is not. Due to Apple taking 30% of in-app purchases, our service cannot be bought as an in-app purchase. My question is: Could Apple choose to throw out our app if we mention the price of the service in the description of our app in iTunes or in a help-text in the app? It seems unreasonable that this would cause problems, but the potential consequences to our business could be terrible so I want to make sure.

ant ftp doesn't download files in subdirectories

Hello, I'm trying to download files in subdirectories from an ftp server with ant. The exact set of files is known. Some of them are in subdirectories. Ant only seems to download the ones in the root directory. It does work if I download all files without listing them. The first ftp action should do the exact same thing as the second. Instead it complains about "Hidden files" and seems to prefix the paths with "\\". Does anyone know what's wrong here? Google analytics tracking example.com and www.example.com

Our website is set up to direct all traffic for www.example.com to example.com with a line in the htaccess file. With google analytics new in page analytics feature we are thinking of removing the line and allowing people to visit www.example.com as well to play with the new features. My question is this. How will this change affect our analytics data. -will nothing change and we can start using the new feature with our existing data -Are the two domains tracked separately and we will have to start over with www.example .com Any help would be great, as I can find nothing on googles help site covering this. Let me know if you need further explanation.

exim4 redirect mail sent to *@domain1.example.com to *@domain2.example.com

Current situation: We have a VPS that hosts a website example.org. Exim is configured to work as a smarthost. All emails sent through exim are successfully relayed to another mail server (that is working on example.com). Goal: To forward mail sent to *@example.org to *@example.com, i.e. change the recipient's address from *@example.org to *@example.com. Problem: If I send email to address *@example.org, then it seems exim doesn't change the address, it still relays the message to another mail server but recipient is still *@example.org. Maybe the redirect is not applied for some reason. Local DNS and Apache Server Configuration Interferring - example.com / www.example.com

I have a domain for my site: example.com I am also running local DNS with these lines: www IN CNAME server.<host_provider>.com. dev IN CNAME server.<host_provider>.com. So www.example.com and dev.example.com go to production and development sites, respectively, that are hosted by a host company. In my Apache configuration for the main site, I'm running a rewrite rule like this: RewriteEngine ON RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com$|!dev\.example\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www\.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=302,L,NE] This rule seems to work, as when you are off the network and go to example.com in the browser, you get redirected to www.example.com. The problem is when I'm on the network, and I go to example.com I get an error page, saying page can't be found. No server errors; just a page can't be found, as if the local DNS is causing it to stop looking at that point. I'm also using Nettica for DNS service and have this A record in place: example.com Host (A) Default xxx.xx.xxx.xx This handles the external DNS, but my problem seems to be related to my internal DNS. For example, inside my network, I can go to servers on the network with addresses like this: server.example.com server1.example.com server2.example.com These are configured in my local DNS. I'm just not sure how to get past the "empty" subdomain and go to example.com. Adding to this since it might not be clear. If I'm out side the example.com network, on another network, like example123.com, then when I go to example.com I'm redirected to www.example.com as expected, eg, the Apache rewrite rule is working. Testing In-App-Billing with not published App

I have an Android App that uses In-App-Billing to sell Account Managed Items. I tested the App with the static respons ids and everything seems to work. I now want to test the App with real product Ids. I created the App in the Google Play Store and uploaded a draft Version of the App with the correct Permissions. I know created an In-App-Billing item and published the item. At the moment the App is unpublished, the item is created and published and I have a test account that is registered in the Profile of the developer account and is the only account on the device that I use for testing. The App is signed with the same key as the uploaded draft. Edit:I'm testing with Android 4.1 && 4.03 at the moment If I try to buy the item the Google Play Store pops up but shows a dialog with the following method: The item you requested is not available for purchase. How can I test buying the item without publishing the App?

Is it possible to create and distribute an app for the BlackBerry Playbook that doesn't go into App World?

My company is looking to create an app that we'll use internally on several (about 20) BlackBerry Playbooks. We don't want it to be put up on App World because it's just an internal application. I'm wondering if there are any: Costs involved with this outside of paying a programmer to develop it - i.e. Are there any license fees, deployment fees, etc. License issues involved with deploying the app to multiple Playbooks without deploying it to App World Limitations on functionality of the app Other things we should be taking into consideration If it matters, the app will be collecting information and downloading it to a computer via USB.

redirect traffic to www.example.com through DNS from example.com

Hello, I have a bit of a unique problem. for the domain (example.com) I want people to go to www.example.com however I'm also throwing GSLB into the mix. for GSLB the devices(one in each datacenter) need to be the nameserver for portion of the domain that they are going to answer for(www.example.com) so I know I can make the NS record of www.example.com just fine and have it point to each GSLB device. However that only helps for www.example.com NOT example.com. I don't want to make my root NS of example.com my GSLB as my enterprise managed DNS provider does an excellent job of all DNS stuff. any ideas?

Google app engine or Amazin ec2 for Restful services and direct access to datastore

I'm thinking of building a Restful app on either App engine or ec2 devloped in Java. I'm interested in opinions/experience of using the two options for this. The primary purpose is to create web services to write and retrieve data through a mobile device...basically creating an API for the service I want to create. It seems to me it would be quicker and cheaper in the beginning to go with google app engine using either restlet or grails.But I also think that I could run into problems in the future when I want to so somthing more advanced and might be restricted by app engines environment. I also want to be able to do data analysis on the data in the datastore as well. It seems that with app engine this would be hard as I don't have direct access to the datastore ( in Amazon I could still have access to the underlying db if I go with MySQL ) .

Apple got yet another reason to brag it’s App Store success – nearly 10 billion apps downloaded around the world. To show off this, they put a big banner over here To celebrate the occasion, Apple will give $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the person who downloads the 10th billion app, either free or paid app. Rules and regulations of the contest are available here. Apple’s App Store is a huge success and it’s at the centre of it’s smart devices eco system – iPhone, iPad and iPod. In April 2009 the store marked 1 billionth download, September 2009 2 billionth and in January 2010, 3 billionth app downloaded. In less than an year the number downloads has seen 3 fold growth and all set to reach 10 billions. Remove In-App Purchase from free app and increase the price

The current version of an application in the App Store is free and has very limited functionality. An In-App Purchase unlocks everything else. I have decided to remove the In-App Purchase and just make the application cost the same price as the In-App Purchase did. But if I make the update now, then those users who have the free version but who have not yet paid for the In-App Purchase will get a free update into the full version. I have removed all traces of my singleton class, PurchaseManager, from the application, so that at this point, when I build/run it, all of the features are unlocked. At this point, how can I make sure that the free-version users don't just ride an update into the full version? Maybe there's a way to test whether the app is obtained through an update or through a purchase? That way, if it's through an update, I will see if it's the free version w/o the IAP and then force the user to purchase the IAP to continue playing. Any ideas?

Thoughts of Cloud Development/Google App Engine

I use mainly PHP for web development, but recently, I started thinking about using Google App Engine. It doesn't use PHP which I am already familiar with, so there will be a steeper learning curve. Probably using Python/Django. But I think it maybe worthwhile. Some advantages I see: Focus on App/Development. No need to setup/maintain server ... no more server configs Scales automatically Pay for what you use. Free for low usage Reliable, it's Google after all Some concerns though: Does database with no joins pose a problem for those who used App Engine before? Do I have to upload to Google just to test? Will it be slow compared to testing locally? What are your thoughts and opinions? Why would you use or not use App Engine?

HG: fork web app project to separate API code from app code

I have a web app thats been in active development for about 8 months now and its becoming apparent that the project has a need to maintain a separation between app specific code and our OO Javascript API. What I would like to do is have another repository with the following general structure of the js API code. repo_name | +---build | +---build_tools | +---doc | +---src | +---js Of course this structure is different from the original web app directory structure. If I make changes to this new repository how could I pull in those changes to the web app repository without unintentionally removing files or modifying the directory structure of the web app repository?

Ubuntu App Submission won't allow the "free" bubble to be checked

I am at the final stages of the Ubuntu App Developer Showdown, and I'm right at the point where I am submitting my app. The problem I run in to however, is that even though buy is at $0.00, it will not allow me to click on the "free" button, and keep that configuration saved. So when I go to "preview your app", it shows it saying "USD $0.00 ---- Buy" instead of saying "Free ---- Install". So I was wondering if it makes any difference or not.
