  • Oracle Service Bus JMS Deployments Utility by Mike Muller

    - by JuergenKress
For proxy services utilizing the JMS transport, OSB receives messages from destinations by using an MDB. These MDBs get generated and deployed during activation of the service configuration. OSB creates a random, unique name for the J2EE application that gets deployed to WLS. The name starts with “_ALSB_” and ends in a unique series of digits. The EAR files are written to the sbgen subdirectory of the domain home directory. You will see these applications on the WLS console page for “Deployments”. For various operational reasons, there are times when the application name for a given proxy service needs to be determined. Since the generated name of the application doesn’t reflect the name of the service, it becomes difficult to determine the relationship between the service and its EAR file. In fact, it can not be discerned from either the OSB or WLS consoles.Read the full article here. • Compiling OpenCV in Android NDK

    - by evident
    PLEASE SEE THE ADDITIONS AT THE BOTTOM! The first problem is solved in Linux, not under Windows and Cygwin yet, but there is a new problem. Please see below! I am currently trying to compile OpenCV for Android NDK so that I can use it in my apps. For this I tried to follow this guide: http://www.stanford.edu/~zxwang/android_opencv.html But when compiling the downloaded stuff with ndk-build I get this error: $ /cygdrive/u/flori/workspace/android-ndk-r5b/ndk-build Compile++ thumb : opencv <= cvjni.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxalloc.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxarithm.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxarray.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxcmp.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxconvert.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxcopy.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxdatastructs.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxdrawing.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxdxt.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxerror.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cximage.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxjacobieigens.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxlogic.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxlut.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxmathfuncs.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxmatmul.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxmatrix.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxmean.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxmeansdv.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxminmaxloc.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxnorm.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxouttext.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxpersistence.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxprecomp.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxrand.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxsumpixels.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxsvd.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxswitcher.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxtables.cpp Compile++ thumb : cxcore <= cxutils.cpp StaticLibrary : libstdc++.a StaticLibrary : libcxcore.a Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvaccum.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvadapthresh.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvapprox.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcalccontrasthistogram.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcalcimagehomography.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcalibinit.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcalibration.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcamshift.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcanny.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcolor.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcondens.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcontours.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcontourtree.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvconvhull.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcorner.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvcornersubpix.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvderiv.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvdistransform.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvdominants.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvemd.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvfeatureselect.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvfilter.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvfloodfill.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvfundam.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvgeometry.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvhaar.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvhistogram.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvhough.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvimgwarp.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvinpaint.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvkalman.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvlinefit.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvlkpyramid.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvmatchcontours.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvmoments.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvmorph.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvmotempl.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvoptflowbm.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvoptflowhs.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvoptflowlk.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvpgh.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvposit.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvprecomp.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvpyramids.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvpyrsegmentation.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvrotcalipers.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsamplers.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsegmentation.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvshapedescr.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsmooth.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsnakes.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvstereobm.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvstereogc.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsubdivision2d.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsumpixels.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvsurf.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvswitcher.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvtables.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvtemplmatch.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvthresh.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvundistort.cpp Compile++ thumb : cv <= cvutils.cpp StaticLibrary : libcv.a SharedLibrary : libopencv.so U:/flori/workspace/android-ndk-r5b/toolchains/arm-linux-androideabi-4.4.3/prebui lt/windows/bin/../lib/gcc/arm-linux-androideabi/4.4.3/../../../../arm-linux-andr oideabi/bin/ld.exe: cannot find -lcxcore collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [/cygdrive/u/flori/workspace/android/testOpenCV/obj/local/armeabi/libo pencv.so] Error 1 I am trying to compile it on a Windows system and with the newest NDK version... Does anybody have an idea what this linking error means and what I can to to have it work again? Would be great if anybody could help After getting the problem to work I found that there is another way of compiling OpenCV for Android, using the current version of OpenCV (instead of the 1.1 one from above) and the modified Android NDK from crystax, which supports STL and exceptions and therefore supports the newest OpenCV Version. All information on that can be found here: http://opencv.willowgarage.com/wiki/Android There it says to download the current svn trunk and the crystax-r4 android-ndk, as well as swig, which I did. I entered the folder, created the build directory, ran cmake and then built the static libs, which seemed to work. At least it successfully ran the make-command without errors. I now wanted to build the shared libraries so I entered the android-jni folder and ran 'make' again, but got this error: % make -j4 OPENCV_CONFIG = ../build/android-opencv.mk make clean-swig &&\ mkdir -p jni/gen &&\ mkdir -p src/com/opencv/jni &&\ swig -java -c++ -package "com.opencv.jni" \ -outdir src/com/opencv/jni \ -o jni/gen/android_cv_wrap.cpp jni/android-cv.i OPENCV_CONFIG = ../build/android-opencv.mk make[1]: Entering directory `/home/florian/android-opencv-willowgarage/android/android-jni' make[1]: warning: jobserver unavailable: using -j1.   • App.Config or XAML

    - by Florian Doyon
Hi ladies(?) and gents, I am currently evaluating my options for a rewrite of the projects I'm working on and I am a bit miffed by the stringly-typed nature of our app.config files. I'd like to move to a more structured approach, so I have two options: Use custom SectionHandlers in the app.config Scrap app.config and use XAML instead. I'd like to get your opinions and horror stories on this, what are the pros and cons of using XAML for this? Cheers, Florian

  • Powder games: how do they work?

    - by Marc Müller
Hey guys, I recently found these two gems: http://powdertoy.co.uk/ http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/ My question is: How are the physics with so many elements efficiently handled? Am I just severely underestimating modern computing power or is it possible to 'just' have a two-dimensional array, each cell of which describes what is placed at the according position and simulate each cell in every step. Or are there more complex things being done like summarising large areas of the same kind into a single data set and separating said set as needed? Are there any open-source games like this I could look at?

  • What is the justification for Python's power operator associating to the right?

    - by Pieter Müller
I am writing code to parse mathematical expression strings, and noticed that the order in which chained power operators are evaluated in Python differs from the order in Excel. From http://docs.python.org/reference/expressions.html: "Thus, in an unparenthesized sequence of power and unary operators, the operators are evaluated from right to left (this does not constrain the evaluation order for the operands): -1*2 results in -1."* This means that, in Python: 2**2**3 is evaluated as 2**(2**3) = 2**8 = 256 In Excel, it works the other way around: 2^2^3 is evaluated as (2^2)^3 = 4^3 = 64 I now have to choose an implementation for my own parser. The Excel order is easier to implement, as it mirrors the evaluation order of multiplication. I asked some people around the office what their gut feel was for the evaluation of 2^2^3 and got mixed responses. Does anybody know of any good reasons or conciderations in favour of the Python implementation? And if you don't have an answer, please comment with the result you get from gut feel - 64 or 256?

  • Will they release a Wrox Box 4?

    - by Winston Muller
Hi, does anyone know if there will be a Wrox Box 4? I would love to get something like that, but the latest collection of Wrox books seems to be the release for 3.5. I really need to get up to date with the latest version of .NET. I'm not sure if there will be a Wrox Box 4 though, because it looks like Wiley is now publishing Wrox books under Wiley, and not Wrox anymore. So it looks like I'm going to have to go with Professional ASP.NET 4 in C# Instead of the Wrox Box 3.5

  • Allow JMX connection on JVM 1.6.x

    - by Martin Müller
While trying to monitor a JVM on a remote system using visualvm the activation of JMX gave me some challenges. Dr Google and my employers documentation quickly revealed some -D opts needed for JMX, but strangely it only worked for a Solaris 10 system (my setup: MacOS laptop monitoring SPARC Solaris based JVMs) On S11 with the same opts I saw that "my" JVM listening on port 3000 (which I chose for JMX), but visualvm was not able to get a connection. Finally I found out that at least my S11 installation needed an explicit setting of the RMI host name. This what finally worked:         -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=3000 \        -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=s11name.us.oracle.com \ Maybe this post saves someone else the time I spent on research

  • How easily recognized are new TLDs?

    - by Ryan Muller
I'm interested in purchasing a domain name for a new service I intend to market. I know that .com is instantly recognizable as a domain ending, and if I see stackoverflow.com I know it's a web address. However, I also recognize strings like github.io and mysite.tk as domains, since I've worked with domains like these. To the average member of the public, if one sees an address ending in .io or similar, non-mainstream TLD (e.g. on a billboard or business card) would they immediately know it's a URL and to type it into a browser? Or are these new domains only useful 1) for a technical audience or 2) when you will be primarily promoting your site through links and not print?

  • Actually utilizing relational databases for entity systems

    - by Marc Müller
Recently I was researching several entity systems and obviously I came across T=Machine's fantastic articles on the subject. In Part 5 of the series the author uses a relational schema to explain how an entity system is built and works. Since reading this, I have been wondering whether or not actually using a compact SQL library would be fast enough for real-time usage in video games. Performance seems to be the main issue with a full blown SQL database for management of all entities and components. However, as mentioned in T=Machine's post, basically all access to data inside the SQLDB is done sequentlially by each system over each component. Additionally, using a library like SQLite, one could easily improve performance by storing the entity data exclusively in RAM to increase access speeds. Disregarding possible performance issues, using a SQL database, in my opinion, would allow for a very intuitive implementation of entity systems and bring a long certain other benefits like easy de/serialization of game states and consistency checks like the uniqueness of entity IDs. Edit for clarification: The main question was whether using a SQL database for the actual entity management (not just storing the game state on the disk) in a real-time game would still yield a framerate appropriate for a game or even if someone is aware of projects that demonstrate SQL in a video game.

  • Eclipse uses 100 % CPU randomly

    - by Florian Gutmann
Hi everyone! My eclipse sometimes starts using 100 % of my CPU very spontaneously. I can't figure out why it needs that much CPU usage. There is no background task like "building workspace" running. After some time the CPU load drops to 0 and everything is normal. I can't find any information related to the problem in workspace/.metadata/.log file. Has anybody some tip how i can figure out which part of eclipse is using the CPU so heavily? Is there a way to get a thread dump of eclipse? The kill -3 on the eclipse process doesn't do anything. Eclipse Version: Galileo JavaEE Operating System: Linux 2.6.31 Thanks in advance! Florian

  • Changing a Container while using Visitor

    - by Florian
Hi everyone, I implemented the Visitor pattern in C++ using a STL-like iterator for storing the Visitor's current position in the container. Now I would like to change the container while I iterate over it, and I'm especially interested in deleting items from the container, even the one I'm currently visiting. Now obviously this will invalidate the Visitors internal iterator, because it was pointing to exactly this item. Currently, I store a list of all iterators in the container and update them, as soon as anything is added to or removed from the list. So in a way this is similar to the Observer pattern applied to the iterator (as Observer) and the list (as Observable). Alternatively I considered having the visitor() methods return some hint to the Visitor about what happend to the current item and how to proceed iterating, but that doesn't sound like such a good idea either, because the visit() implementation shouldn't really care about finding the next item. So, my question is: What's the best way to keep a visitor working, even when items are added to the container or removed from it. Regards, Florian

  • Simple Java networking game engine [on hold]

    - by Florian Peschka
I want to create a simple java networking game and search a networking engine that eases use of sockets etc. I have already read some questions on here and the internet about java networking for games, but many of them were over 10 years old or not really answered. I have no idea whatsoever about what exactly I need to send in terms of messages, but I figured simple strings or integers will be enough for my purposes. It's basically a peer to peer game, so I don't need a centralized server structure. Messaging doesn't have to have an extremely low ping, yet of course all players need to have a synchronized view. What are the possibilities I have here?

  • How do I re-install Unity after uninstalling gnome-shell?

    - by Florian
I am using Ubuntu 14.04. I have big issues with the Unity desktop. I installed then uninstalled gnome-shell (using "apt-get autoremove --purge gnome-shell"). Since then, my desktop has no background and no icons. Plus, and this is the bothering part, unity is very unstable. On startup, there is a huge use of memory, much more than before. Sometimes, I also cannot minimize a window without having the desktop freezing and having to kill the process in question with tty1. I have tried to use : apt-get autoremove --purge ubuntu-desktop apt-get install ubuntu-desktop But it does not change a thing. I tried to update my video drivers but it is still the same. How can I reinstall the unity desktop thoroughly (obviously, something in its install is broken) ? If it is not possible, is it safe that I create a new partition on my disk where I will put my files and reinstall Ubuntu on the old partition (I do have a USB install of Ubuntu 14.04 but not enough space to save my files on it) ?

  • If my team has low skill, should I lower the skill of my code?

    - by Florian Margaine
For example, there is a common snippet in JS to get a default value: function f(x) { x = x || 10; } This kind of snippet is not easily understood by all the members of my team, their JS level being low. Should I not use this trick then? It makes the code less readable by peers, but more readable than the following according to any JS dev: function f(x) { if (!x) { x = 10; } } Sure, if I use this trick and a colleague sees it, then they can learn something. But the case is often that they see this as "trying to be clever". So, should I lower the level of my code if my teammates have a lower level than me?

  • Micro QR Code Generator with minimal error correction

    - by Florian Peschka
I am searching a Micro QR Code Generator that fulfills the following requirements: At least 20 characters encoded Minimal error correction (required to get the 20 characters stuffed in) I already searched google, but it seems all micro qr generators automatically use maximum error correction, which is very unhandy for my task, as we need the 20 characters completety. I can't use standard QR because there are certain requirements that need the code to be smaller than a certain dimension when printed... I hope someone can help me. PS: I'm not sure that this is the right board to post this question on, so feel free to redirect me to a better board if you have an idea. PPS: If nothing can be found and I'm forced to write one on my own: Where can I find detailed information on how to write a QR code generator?

  • Is eval the defmacro of javascript?

    - by Florian Margaine
In Common Lisp, defmacro basically allows us to build our own DSL. I read this page today and it explains something cleverly done: But I wasn't about to write out all these boring predicates myself, so I defined a function that, given a list of words, builds up the text for such a predicate automatically, and then evals it to produce a function. Which just looks like defmacro to me. Is eval the defmacro of javascript? Could it be used as such?

  • Question about casting a class in Java with generics

    - by Florian F
In Java 6 Class<? extends ArrayList<?>> a = ArrayList.class; gives and error, but Class<? extends ArrayList<?>> b = (Class<? extends ArrayList<?>>)ArrayList.class; gives a warning. Why is (a) an error? What is it, that Java needs to do in the assignment, if not the cast shown in (b)? And why isn't ArrayList compatible with ArrayList? I know one is "raw" and the other is "generic", but what is it you can do with an ArrayList and not with an ArrayList, or the other way around?

  • Different callbacks for error or error as first argument?

    - by Florian Margaine
We (and the JS SO chat room) had a talk with @rlemon some days ago about his Little-XHR library about error handling. Basically, we wanted to decide which error handling pattern should be used: xhr.get({ // Some parameters, and then success: function(data) {}, failure: function(data) {} }) Or: xhr.get({ // Some parameters, and then callback: function(err, data) {} }) One is more jQuery-like, while the other is more Node-like. Some say that the first pattern makes you think more about handling error. I think the opposite, since you may forget the other callback function, while the argument is always there on the second pattern. Any opinion/advantage/drawback about both these patterns?

  • Macbook Pro 8,1 - wireless interface not showing up

    - by Florian Margaine
I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Macbook Pro 8,1. Everything went fine and everything installs fine except for the wireless interface. I've installed the b43 module according to these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro8-1/Natty#Wireless I've tried compiling the module, ndiswrapper and also the last solution mentioned using this PPA: ppa:zwaldowski/ppa. With the three solutions, the module loads finely. It works smoothly. lspci shows the wireless card without problem. But there is no wireless interface. iwconfig or ifconfig both show eth0 and lo as interfaces, but no eth1 or wlan0 interface is showing up. I have no idea why, and I'm completely stuck there.

  • libssh2 and simultaneous connections

    - by Florian Margaine
I'm writing a node.js C++ module using the C library libssh2. The module is supposed to be a bridge to connect to SSH over HTTPS. Right now, I'm still in the design/learning phase of v8 API and C++, and I have a design question: libssh2 is a C library, all its methods are global. From what I see in the examples, libssh2 can only handle one connection at a time. If I want to allow simultaneous connections to different SSH servers, do I have to fork a process to completely separate the libssh2 "instances", or is forking a thread enough? I don't know enough of the separation limit used there. Any idea on how to handle this is appreciated.
