• iis 7.0 output caching

  My company is serving up deep-zoom maps. We have 100'000s jpg images being served up and was wondering if output caching would be the way to go. Our problem is latency on serving the images. I was wondering if i output caching would indeed improve latency and a general explanation about output caching.   short of restarting our server, is there anyway we can get this memory released and our website up and running. • .net thread safety

  Why is locking a type considered very bad? For example, lock(typeof(DateTime)) I understand that static methods of any class in .net is considered thread safe, and that instance members are not. So it isn't necessary to lock DateTime while you are using it. The book I am reading doesn't explain why it is bad it just says it is. Any explanation will be great.

• Relative silverlight control positioning

  I Have a canvas and would like to place silverlight elements within that canvas relative to each. For example, I have an element (A) at canvas.top="0" canvas.left="5". I would like to place all elements proceeding that one relative to its position. So if i move A to canvas.top="10" canvas.left="15" all other elements would reposition themselves. IF this is feasibly with a canvas let me know, else can you recommend what control i should be using. Thank you very much

  I am sending an object through a webservice with readonly methods. I am using the Iserializable interface, assuming that I would no longer need a parameterless constructor.   Currently there is discussion as to what are the pros and cons of having a single sql connection architecture. To elaborate what we are discussing is, at application creation open a sql connection and at application close or error closing the sql connection. And not creating another connection at all, but using just that one to talk with the DB. We are wondering what the community thinks.

• load balance timeout SQL connection string

  It seems that if there is a sql memory leak somewhere and you dont have time to find it you can use the load balance timeout option in a sql connection string to destory the connection after x seconds. Am i right in assuming I can set the load balance time out to 30-40 seconds and then hunt for the leak latter, while in the mean time the leak will not affect my application too much.
