JPA 2.0, hiberante 3.5, jars & persistence.xml location

I'm building a desktop application using hibernate 3.5 & JPA 2.0. I have 2 jars, the lib, which defines every entity and DAO, packages looks like this : org.my.package.models org.my.package.models.dao org.my.package.models.utils In org.my.package.utils I defined my hibernate utility class for getting EM & EMF instances, which means the lib is bound to a Persistence Unit name but that's not a problem for now (anyway you can recommend me a better way to manage that) the second jars is built as follow: org.my.package.app META-INF is defined on the root of the project which means in my jar I can find this directories directly in the root: META-INF/ META-INF/persistence.xml org/ org/my/ ... org/my/package/app/Main.class META-INF/ When I run the app, hibernate doesn't managed to find persistence.xml it throws an exception something like "package or class for PersistenceUnitName not found". I googled a bit about the problem but I can't get the source code organisation right. Any help ?

hibernate validationQuery.. proper way to use it

sometime the connection from application to database will drop and i get SQLState: 08006 error Code: 17002. Below is my configuration for database pooling <prop key="hibernate.dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.Oracle10gDialect</prop> <prop key="hibernate.show_sql">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.format_sql">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.use_sql_comments">true</prop> <prop key="hibernate.cglib.use_reflection_optimizer">true</prop>  <prop key="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto">update</prop> <prop key="hibernate.c3p0.min_size">5</prop> <prop key="hibernate.c3p0.max_size">20</prop> <prop key="hibernate.c3p0.timeout">1800</prop> <prop key="hibernate.c3p0.max_statements">100</prop>  Can anyone advise, should i use validationQuery, onBorrow.. and why need to use it? what other properties should i use to enhance stability of the connection from my application to oracle10g?

Lazy loading of Blob properties of one class

Hi, My class contains "summary" and "title" properties those are Blob and other properties. Code:(I write some part of class) public class News extends BaseEntity{ @Lob @Basic(fetch = FetchType.LAZY) public String getSummary() { return summary; } @Lob @Basic(fetch = FetchType.LAZY) public String getTitle() { return title; } @Temporal(TemporalType.TIMESTAMP) public Date getPublishDate() { return publishDate; } } I instrument this class to lazy load of Blob properties using this class "org.hibernate.tool.instrument.javassist.InstrumentTask". When i write this code to retrieve only summary of new , newsDAO.findByid(1L).getSummary(); Hibernate generates these queries: Hibernate: select news0_.id as id1_, news0_.entityVersion as entityVe2_1_, news0_.publishDate as publish15_1_, news0_.url as url1_ from News news0_ Hibernate: select news_.summary as summary1_, news_.title as title1_ from News news_ where news_.id=? I have two qurestions: 1.I only want to retrieve "summary" property not "title" property,but Hibernate queries show that it also retrieve "title" property,Why this happens(i want to lazy load of "property")? It seems when i load one of Blob property ,Hibernate loads all of them.Why?(This is my main question) 2.Why Hibernate generates two queries for retrieving only "summary" property of news? Khosro.

Problem updating BLOB with Hibernate?

hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. (i am using Hiberante 3.3.1-GA) my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated.
